Truly God430 is good2896 to Israel3478, even to such as are of a clean1249 heart3824.¹²³ 2 But as for me, my feet7272 were almost4592 gone5186 5186; my steps838 had well nigh369 slipped8210. 3 For I was envious7065 at the foolish1984, when I saw7200 the prosperity7965 of the wicked7563. 4 For there are no bands2784 in their death4194: but their strength193 is firm1277.⁴ 5 They are not in trouble5999 as other men582; neither are they plagued5060 like5973 other men120.⁵⁶ 6 Therefore pride1346 compasseth them about as a chain6059; violence2555 covereth5848 them as a garment7897. 7 Their eyes5869 stand out3318 with fatness2459: they have more5674 than heart3824 could wish4906.⁷ 8 They are corrupt4167, and speak1696 wickedly7451 concerning oppression6233: they speak1696 loftily4791. 9 They set8371 their mouth6310 against the heavens8064, and their tongue3956 walketh1980 through the earth776. 10 Therefore his people5971 return7725 7725 hither1988: and waters4325 of a full4392 cup are wrung out4680 to them. 11 And they say559, How doth God410 know3045? and is there3426 knowledge1844 in the most High5945? 12 Behold, these are the ungodly7563, who prosper7961 in the world5769; they increase7685 in riches2428. 13 Verily I have cleansed2135 my heart3824 in vain7385, and washed7364 my hands3709 in innocency5356. 14 For all the day3117 long have I been plagued5060, and chastened8433 every morning1242.⁸

15 If I say559, I will speak5608 thus3644; behold, I should offend898 against the generation1755 of thy children1121. 16 When I thought2803 to know3045 this, it was too painful5999 for me5869;⁹ 17 Until I went935 into the sanctuary4720 of God410; then understood995 I their end319. 18 Surely thou didst set7896 them in slippery places2513: thou castedst them down5307 into destruction4876. 19 How are they brought into desolation8047, as in a moment7281! they are utterly5486 consumed8552 with terrors1091. 20 As a dream2472 when one awaketh6974; so, O Lord136, when thou awakest5782, thou shalt despise959 their image6754.

21 Thus my heart3824 was grieved2556, and I was pricked8150 in my reins3629. 22 So foolish1198 was I, and ignorant3045: I was as a beast929 before thee.¹⁰¹¹ 23 Nevertheless I am continually8548 with thee: thou hast holden270 me by my right3225 hand3027. 24 Thou shalt guide5148 me with thy counsel6098, and afterward310 receive3947 me to glory3519. 25 Whom have I in heaven8064 but thee? and there is none upon earth776 that I desire2654 beside thee. 26 My flesh7607 and my heart3824 faileth3615: but God430 is the strength6697 of my heart3824, and my portion2506 for ever5769.¹² 27 For, lo, they that are far7369 from thee shall perish6: thou hast destroyed6789 all them that go a whoring2181 from thee. 28 But589 it is good2896 for me to draw near7132 to God430: I have put7896 my trust4268 in the Lord136 GOD3069, that I may declare5608 all thy works4399.
