1 And the LORD3068 spake1696 unto Moses4872, saying559, 2 Avenge5358 5360 the children1121 of Israel3478 of the Midianites4084: afterward310 shalt thou be gathered622 unto thy people5971. 3 And Moses4872 spake1696 unto the people5971, saying559, Arm2502 some582 of yourselves unto the war6635, and let them go against the Midianites4080, and avenge5414 5360 the LORD3068 of Midian4080. 4 Of every tribe4294 4294 a thousand505 505, throughout all the tribes4294 of Israel3478, shall ye send7971 to the war6635.¹ 5 So there were delivered4560 out of the thousands505 of Israel3478, a thousand505 of every tribe4294, twelve8147 6240 thousand505 armed2502 for war6635. 6 And Moses4872 sent7971 them to the war6635, a thousand505 of every tribe4294, them and Phinehas6372 the son1121 of Eleazar499 the priest3548, to the war6635, with the holy6944 instruments3627, and the trumpets2689 to blow8643 in his hand3027.

7 And they warred6633 against the Midianites4080, as the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872; and they slew2026 all the males2145. 8 And they slew2026 the kings4428 of Midian4080, beside5921 the rest of them that were slain2491; namely, Evi189, and Rekem7552, and Zur6698, and Hur2354, and Reba7254, five2568 kings4428 of Midian4080: Balaam1109 also the son1121 of Beor1160 they slew2026 with the sword2719. 9 And the children1121 of Israel3478 took all the women802 of Midian4080 captives7617, and their little ones2945, and took the spoil962 of all their cattle929, and all their flocks4735, and all their goods2428. 10 And they burnt8313 all their cities5892 wherein they dwelt4186, and all their goodly castles2918, with fire784. 11 And they took3947 all the spoil7998, and all the prey4455, both of men120 and of beasts929. 12 And they brought935 the captives7628, and the prey4455, and the spoil7998, unto Moses4872, and Eleazar499 the priest3548, and unto the congregation5712 of the children1121 of Israel3478, unto the camp4264 at the plains6160 of Moab4124, which are by Jordan3383 near Jericho3405.

13 And Moses4872, and Eleazar499 the priest3548, and all the princes5387 of the congregation5712, went forth3318 to meet7125 them without2351 the camp4264. 14 And Moses4872 was wroth7107 with the officers6485 of the host2428, with the captains8269 over thousands505, and captains8269 over hundreds3967, which came935 from6635 the battle4421.² 15 And Moses4872 said559 unto them, Have ye saved2421 all the women5347 alive2421? 16 Behold, these2007 caused1961 the children1121 of Israel3478, through the counsel1697 of Balaam1109, to commit4560 trespass4604 against the LORD3068 in the matter1697 of Peor6465, and there was a plague4046 among the congregation5712 of the LORD3068. 17 Now therefore kill2026 every male2145 among the little ones2945, and kill2026 every woman802 that hath known3045 man376 by lying4904 with him2145.³ 18 But all the women802 children2945, that have not known3045 a man2145 by lying4904 with him, keep alive2421 for yourselves. 19 And do ye abide2583 without2351 the camp4264 seven7651 days3117: whosoever hath killed2026 any person5315, and whosoever hath touched5060 any slain2491, purify2398 both yourselves and your captives7628 on the third7992 day3117, and on the seventh7637 day3117. 20 And purify2398 all your raiment899, and all that is made3627 of skins5785, and all work4639 of goats'5795 hair, and all things made3627 of wood6086.⁴ 21 And Eleazar499 the priest3548 said559 unto the men582 of war6635 which went935 to the battle4421, This is the ordinance2708 of the law8451 which the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872; 22 Only the gold2091, and the silver3701, the brass5178, the iron1270, the tin913, and the lead5777, 23 Every thing1697 that may abide935 the fire784, ye shall make it go through5674 the fire784, and it shall be clean2891: nevertheless it shall be purified2398 with the water4325 of separation5079: and all that abideth935 not the fire784 ye shall make go through5674 the water4325. 24 And ye shall wash3526 your clothes899 on the seventh7637 day3117, and ye shall be clean2891, and afterward310 ye shall come935 into the camp4264.

25 And the LORD3068 spake559 unto Moses4872, saying559, 26 Take5375 the sum7218 of the prey4455 that was taken7628, both of man120 and of beast929, thou, and Eleazar499 the priest3548, and the chief7218 fathers1 of the congregation5712:⁵ 27 And divide2673 the prey4455 into two parts2673; between them that took8610 the war4421 upon them, who went out3318 to battle6635, and between all the congregation5712: 28 And levy7311 a tribute4371 unto the LORD3068 of the men582 of war4421 which went out3318 to battle6635: one259 soul5315 of five2568 hundred3967, both of the persons120, and of the beeves1241, and of the asses2543, and of the sheep6629: 29 Take3947 it of their half4276, and give5414 it unto Eleazar499 the priest3548, for an heave offering8641 of the LORD3068. 30 And of the children1121 of Israel's3478 half4276, thou shalt take3947 one259 portion270 of fifty2572, of the persons120, of the beeves1241, of the asses2543, and of the flocks6629, of all manner of beasts929, and give5414 them unto the Levites3881, which keep8104 the charge4931 of the tabernacle4908 of the LORD3068.⁶ 31 And Moses4872 and Eleazar499 the priest3548 did6213 as the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872. 32 And the booty4455, being the rest3499 of the prey957 which the men of5971 war6635 had caught962, was six8337 hundred3967 thousand505 and seventy7657 thousand505 and five2568 thousand505 sheep6629, 33 And threescore and twelve7657 8147 thousand505 beeves1241, 34 And threescore8346 and one259 thousand505 asses2543, 35 And thirty7970 and two8147 thousand505 persons5315 120 in all3605, of women802 that had not known3045 man2145 by lying4904 with him. 36 And the half4275, which was the portion2506 of them that went out3318 to war6635, was in number4557 three7969 hundred3967 thousand505 and seven7651 and thirty7970 thousand505 and five2568 hundred3967 sheep6629: 37 And the LORD'S3068 tribute4371 of the sheep6629 was six8337 hundred3967 and threescore and fifteen7657 2568. 38 And the beeves1241 were thirty7970 and six8337 thousand505; of which the LORD'S3068 tribute4371 was threescore and twelve7657 8147. 39 And the asses2543 were thirty7970 thousand505 and five2568 hundred3967; of which the LORD'S3068 tribute4371 was threescore8346 and one259. 40 And the persons120 5315 were sixteen8337 6240 thousand505; of which the LORD'S3068 tribute4371 was thirty7970 and two8147 persons5315. 41 And Moses4872 gave5414 the tribute4371, which was the LORD'S3068 heave offering8641, unto Eleazar499 the priest3548, as the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872. 42 And of the children1121 of Israel's3478 half4276, which Moses4872 divided2673 from the men582 that warred6633, 43 (Now the half4275 that pertained unto the congregation5712 was three7969 hundred3967 thousand505 and thirty7970 thousand505 and seven7651 thousand505 and five2568 hundred3967 sheep4480 6629, 44 And thirty7970 and six8337 thousand505 beeves1241, 45 And thirty7970 thousand505 asses2543 and five2568 hundred3967, 46 And sixteen8337 6240 thousand505 persons5315 120;) 47 Even of the children1121 of Israel's3478 half4276, Moses4872 took3947 one259 portion270 of fifty2572, both of man120 and of beast929, and gave5414 them unto the Levites3881, which kept8104 the charge4931 of the tabernacle4908 of the LORD3068; as the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872.

48 And the officers6485 which were over thousands505 of the host6635, the captains8269 of thousands505, and captains8269 of hundreds3967, came near7126 unto Moses4872: 49 And they said559 unto Moses4872, Thy servants5650 have taken5375 the sum7218 of the men582 of war4421 which are under our charge3027, and there lacketh6485 not one man376 of us.⁷ 50 We have therefore brought7126 an oblation7133 for the LORD3068, what every man376 hath gotten4672, of jewels3627 of gold2091, chains685, and bracelets6781, rings2885, earrings5694, and tablets3558, to make an atonement3722 for our souls5315 before6440 the LORD3068.⁸ 51 And Moses4872 and Eleazar499 the priest3548 took3947 the gold2091 of them, even all wrought4639 jewels3627. 52 And all the gold2091 of the offering8641 that they offered up7311 to the LORD3068, of the captains8269 of thousands505, and of the captains8269 of hundreds3967, was sixteen8337 6240 thousand505 seven7651 hundred3967 and fifty2572 shekels8255.⁹ 53 (For the men582 of war6635 had taken spoil962, every man376 for himself.) 54 And Moses4872 and Eleazar499 the priest3548 took3947 the gold2091 of the captains8269 of thousands505 and of hundreds3967, and brought935 it into the tabernacle168 of the congregation4150, for a memorial2146 for the children1121 of Israel3478 before6440 the LORD3068.
