1 And it came to pass, when Jabin2985 king4428 of Hazor2674 had heard8085 those things, that he sent7971 to Jobab3103 king4428 of Madon4068, and to the king4428 of Shimron8110, and to the king4428 of Achshaph407, 2 And to the kings4428 that were on the north6828 of the mountains2022, and of the plains6160 south5045 of Chinneroth3672, and in the valley8219, and in the borders5299 of Dor1756 on the west3220, 3 And to the Canaanite3669 on the east4217 and on the west3220, and to the Amorite567, and the Hittite2850, and the Perizzite6522, and the Jebusite2983 in the mountains2022, and to the Hivite2340 under Hermon2768 in the land776 of Mizpeh4709. 4 And they went out3318, they and all their hosts4264 with them, much7227 people5971, even as the sand2344 that is upon the sea3220 shore8193 in multitude7230, with horses5483 and chariots7393 very3966 many7227. 5 And when all these kings4428 were met together3259, they came935 and pitched2583 together3162 at the waters4325 of Merom4792, to fight3898 against Israel3478.¹ 6 And the LORD3068 said559 unto Joshua3091, Be not afraid3372 because6440 of them: for to morrow4279 about this time6256 will I deliver them up5414 all slain2491 before6440 Israel3478: thou shalt hough6131 their horses5483, and burn8313 their chariots4818 with fire784. 7 So Joshua3091 came935, and all the people5971 of war4421 with him, against them by the waters4325 of Merom4792 suddenly6597; and they fell upon5307 them. 8 And the LORD3068 delivered5414 them into the hand3027 of Israel3478, who smote5221 them, and chased7291 them unto great7227 Zidon6721, and unto Misrephothmaim4956, and unto the valley1237 of Mizpeh4708 eastward4217; and they smote5221 them, until they left7604 them none remaining8300.²³ 9 And Joshua3091 did6213 unto them as the LORD3068 bade559 him: he houghed6131 their horses5483, and burnt8313 their chariots4818 with fire784.

10 And Joshua3091 at that time6256 turned back7725, and took3920 Hazor2674, and smote5221 the king4428 thereof with the sword2719: for Hazor2674 beforetime6440 was the head7218 of all those kingdoms4467. 11 And they smote5221 all the souls5315 that were therein with the edge6310 of the sword2719, utterly destroying2763 them: there was not any left3498 to breathe5397: and he burnt8313 Hazor2674 with fire784.⁴ 12 And all the cities5892 of those kings4428, and all the kings4428 of them, did Joshua3091 take3920, and smote5221 them with the edge6310 of the sword2719, and he utterly destroyed2763 them, as Moses4872 the servant5650 of the LORD3068 commanded6680. 13 But as for the cities5892 that stood5975 still in their strength8510, Israel3478 burned8313 none of them, save2108 Hazor2674 only; that did Joshua3091 burn8313.⁵ 14 And all the spoil7998 of these cities5892, and the cattle929, the children1121 of Israel3478 took for a prey962 unto themselves; but every man120 they smote5221 with the edge6310 of the sword2719, until they had destroyed8045 them, neither left7604 they any to breathe5397.

15 As the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872 his servant5650, so did Moses4872 command6680 Joshua3091, and so did6213 Joshua3091; he left5493 nothing1697 undone5493 of all that the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872.⁶ 16 So Joshua3091 took3947 all that land776, the hills2022, and all the south country5045, and all the land776 of Goshen1657, and the valley8219, and the plain6160, and the mountain2022 of Israel3478, and the valley8219 of the same; 17 Even from the mount2022 Halak2510, that goeth up5927 to Seir8165, even unto Baalgad1171 in the valley1237 of Lebanon3844 under mount2022 Hermon2768: and all their kings4428 he took3920, and smote5221 them, and slew4191 them.⁷ 18 Joshua3091 made6213 war4421 a long7227 time3117 with all those kings4428. 19 There was not a city5892 that made peace7999 with the children1121 of Israel3478, save the Hivites2340 the inhabitants3427 of Gibeon1391: all other they took3947 in battle4421. 20 For it was of the LORD3068 to harden2388 their hearts3820, that they should come against7125 Israel3478 in battle4421, that he might destroy them utterly2763, and that they might have no favour8467, but that he might destroy8045 them, as the LORD3068 commanded6680 Moses4872. 21 And at that time6256 came935 Joshua3091, and cut off3772 the Anakims6062 from the mountains2022, from Hebron2275, from Debir1688, from Anab6024, and from all the mountains2022 of Judah3063, and from all the mountains2022 of Israel3478: Joshua3091 destroyed them utterly2763 with their cities5892. 22 There was none of the Anakims6062 left3498 in the land776 of the children1121 of Israel3478: only in Gaza5804, in Gath1661, and in Ashdod795, there remained7604. 23 So Joshua3091 took3947 the whole land776, according to all that the LORD3068 said1696 unto Moses4872; and Joshua3091 gave5414 it for an inheritance5159 unto Israel3478 according to their divisions4256 by their tribes7626. And the land776 rested8252 from war4421.
