1 Again there was a day3117 when the sons1121 of God430 came935 to present3320 themselves before the LORD3068, and Satan7854 came935 also among8432 them to present3320 himself before the LORD3068. 2 And the LORD3068 said559 unto Satan7854, From whence335 comest935 thou? And Satan7854 answered6030 the LORD3068, and said559, From going to and fro7751 in the earth776, and from walking up and down1980 in it. 3 And the LORD3068 said559 unto Satan7854, Hast thou7760 considered3820 my servant5650 Job347, that there is none like him in the earth776, a perfect8535 and an upright3477 man376, one that feareth3373 God430, and escheweth5493 evil7451? and still he holdeth fast2388 his integrity8538, although thou movedst5496 me against him, to destroy1104 him without cause2600.¹ 4 And Satan7854 answered6030 the LORD3068, and said559, Skin5785 for skin5785, yea, all that a man376 hath will he give5414 for his life5315. 5 But199 put forth7971 thine hand3027 now, and touch5060 his bone6106 and his flesh1320, and he will curse1288 thee to thy face6440. 6 And the LORD3068 said559 unto Satan7854, Behold, he is in thine hand3027; but save8104 his life5315.²

7 So went3318 Satan7854 forth3318 from the presence6440 of the LORD3068, and smote5221 Job347 with sore7451 boils7822 from the sole3709 of his foot7272 unto his crown6936. 8 And he took3947 him a potsherd2789 to scrape1623 himself withal; and he sat down3427 among8432 the ashes665. 9 Then said559 his wife802 unto him, Dost thou still retain2388 thine integrity8538? curse1288 God430, and die4191. 10 But he said559 unto her, Thou speakest1696 as one259 of the foolish women5036 speaketh1696. What1571? shall we receive6901 good2896 at the hand of God430, and shall we not receive6901 evil7451? In all this did not Job347 sin2398 with his lips8193.

11 Now when Job's347 three7969 friends7453 heard8085 of all this evil7451 that was come935 upon him, they came935 every one376 from his own place4725; Eliphaz464 the Temanite8489, and Bildad1085 the Shuhite7747, and Zophar6691 the Naamathite5284: for they had made an appointment3259 together3162 to come935 to mourn5110 with him and to comfort5162 him. 12 And when they lifted up5375 their eyes5869 afar off7350, and knew5234 him not, they lifted up5375 their voice6963, and wept1058; and they rent7167 every one376 his mantle4598, and sprinkled2236 dust6083 upon their heads7218 toward heaven8064. 13 So they sat down3427 with him upon the ground776 seven7651 days3117 and seven7651 nights3915, and none spake1696 a word1697 unto him: for they saw7200 that his grief3511 was very3966 great1431.
