1 In the beginning7225 of the reign4468 of Jehoiakim3079 the son1121 of Josiah2977 king4428 of Judah3063 came this word1697 from the LORD3068, saying559, 2 Thus saith559 the LORD3068; Stand5975 in the court2691 of the LORD'S3068 house1004, and speak1696 unto all the cities5892 of Judah3063, which come935 to worship7812 in the LORD'S3068 house1004, all the words1697 that I command6680 thee to speak1696 unto them; diminish1639 not a word1697: 3 If so be they will hearken8085, and turn7725 every man376 from his evil7451 way1870, that I may repent5162 me of the evil7451, which I purpose2803 to do6213 unto them because6440 of the evil7455 of their doings4611. 4 And thou shalt say559 unto them, Thus saith559 the LORD3068; If ye will not hearken8085 to me, to walk3212 in my law8451, which I have set5414 before6440 you, 5 To hearken8085 to the words1697 of my servants5650 the prophets5030, whom I sent7971 unto you, both rising up early7925, and sending7971 them, but ye have not hearkened8085; 6 Then will I make5414 this house1004 like Shiloh7887, and will make5414 this city5892 a curse7045 to all the nations1471 of the earth776.

7 So the priests3548 and the prophets5030 and all the people5971 heard8085 Jeremiah3414 speaking1696 these words1697 in the house1004 of the LORD3068. 8 Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah3414 had made an end3615 of speaking1696 all that the LORD3068 had commanded6680 him to speak1696 unto all the people5971, that the priests3548 and the prophets5030 and all the people5971 took8610 him, saying559, Thou shalt surely4191 die4191. 9 Why hast thou prophesied5012 in the name8034 of the LORD3068, saying559, This house1004 shall be like Shiloh7887, and this city5892 shall be desolate2717 without an inhabitant3427? And all the people5971 were gathered6950 against Jeremiah3414 in the house1004 of the LORD3068. 10 When the princes8269 of Judah3063 heard8085 these things1697, then they came up5927 from the king's4428 house1004 unto the house1004 of the LORD3068, and sat down3427 in the entry6607 of the new2319 gate8179 of the LORD'S3068 house.¹ 11 Then spake559 the priests3548 and the prophets5030 unto the princes8269 and to all the people5971, saying559, This man376 is worthy4941 to die4194; for he hath prophesied5012 against this city5892, as ye have heard8085 with your ears241.² 12 Then spake559 Jeremiah3414 unto all the princes8269 and to all the people5971, saying559, The LORD3068 sent7971 me to prophesy5012 against this house1004 and against this city5892 all the words1697 that ye have heard8085. 13 Therefore now amend3190 your ways1870 and your doings4611, and obey8085 the voice6963 of the LORD3068 your God430; and the LORD3068 will repent5162 him of the evil7451 that he hath pronounced1696 against you. 14 As for me, behold, I am in your hand3027: do6213 with me as seemeth5869 good2896 and meet3477 unto you.³ 15 But know3045 ye for certain3045, that if ye put me to death4191, ye shall surely bring5414 innocent5355 blood1818 upon yourselves, and upon this city5892, and upon the inhabitants3427 thereof: for of a truth571 the LORD3068 hath sent7971 me unto you to speak1696 all these words1697 in your ears241.

16 Then said559 the princes8269 and all the people5971 unto the priests3548 and to the prophets5030; This man376 is not worthy4941 to die4194: for he hath spoken1696 to us in the name8034 of the LORD3068 our God430. 17 Then rose up6965 certain582 of the elders2205 of the land776, and spake559 to all the assembly6951 of the people5971, saying559, 18 Micah4320 the Morasthite4183 prophesied5012 in the days3117 of Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah3063, and spake559 to all the people5971 of Judah3063, saying559, Thus saith559 the LORD3068 of hosts6635; Zion6726 shall be plowed2790 like a field7704, and Jerusalem3389 shall become heaps5856, and the mountain2022 of the house1004 as the high places1116 of a forest3293. 19 Did Hezekiah2396 king4428 of Judah3063 and all Judah3063 put him at all4191 to death4191? did he not fear3373 the LORD3068, and besought2470 the LORD3068 6440, and the LORD3068 repented5162 him of the evil7451 which he had pronounced1696 against them? Thus587 might we procure6213 great1419 evil7451 against our souls5315.⁴ 20 And there was also a man376 that prophesied5012 in the name8034 of the LORD3068, Urijah223 the son1121 of Shemaiah8098 of Kirjathjearim7157, who prophesied5012 against this city5892 and against this land776 according to all the words1697 of Jeremiah3414: 21 And when Jehoiakim3079 the king4428, with all his mighty men1368, and all the princes8269, heard8085 his words1697, the king4428 sought1245 to put him to death4191: but when Urijah223 heard8085 it, he was afraid3372, and fled1272, and went935 into Egypt4714; 22 And Jehoiakim3079 the king4428 sent7971 men582 into Egypt4714, namely, Elnathan494 the son1121 of Achbor5907, and certain men582 with him into Egypt4714. 23 And they fetched forth3318 Urijah223 out of Egypt4714, and brought935 him unto Jehoiakim3079 the king4428; who slew5221 him with the sword2719, and cast7993 his dead body5038 into the graves6913 of the common1121 people5971.⁵ 24 Nevertheless the hand3027 of Ahikam296 the son1121 of Shaphan8227 was with Jeremiah3414, that they should not give5414 him into the hand3027 of the people5971 to put him to death4191.
