1 Keep silence2790 before me, O islands339; and let the people3816 renew2498 their strength3581: let them come near5066; then let them speak1696: let us come near7126 together3162 to judgment4941. 2 Who raised up5782 the righteous6664 man from the east4217, called7121 him to his foot7272, gave5414 the nations1471 before6440 him, and made him rule7287 over kings4428? he gave5414 them as the dust6083 to his sword2719, and as driven5086 stubble7179 to his bow7198.¹ 3 He pursued7291 them, and passed5674 safely7965; even by the way734 that he had not gone935 with his feet7272.² 4 Who hath wrought6466 and done6213 it, calling7121 the generations1755 from the beginning7218? I the LORD3068, the first7223, and with the last314; I am he. 5 The isles339 saw7200 it, and feared3372; the ends7098 of the earth776 were afraid2729, drew near7126, and came857. 6 They helped5826 every one376 his neighbour7453; and every one said559 to his brother251, Be of good courage2388.³ 7 So the carpenter2796 encouraged2388 the goldsmith6884, and he that smootheth2505 with the hammer6360 him that smote1986 the anvil6471, saying559, It is ready2896 for the sodering1694: and he fastened2388 it with nails4548, that it should not be moved4131.⁴⁵⁶ 8 But thou, Israel3478, art my servant5650, Jacob3290 whom I have chosen977, the seed2233 of Abraham85 my friend157. 9 Thou whom I have taken2388 from the ends7098 of the earth776, and called7121 thee from the chief men678 thereof, and said559 unto thee, Thou art my servant5650; I have chosen977 thee, and not cast thee away3988.

10 Fear3372 thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed8159; for I am thy God430: I will strengthen553 thee; yea, I will help5826 thee; yea, I will uphold8551 thee with the right hand3225 of my righteousness6664. 11 Behold, all they that were incensed2734 against thee shall be ashamed954 and confounded3637: they shall be as nothing; and they582 that strive7379 with thee shall perish6.⁷ 12 Thou shalt seek1245 them, and shalt not find4672 them, even them582 that contended4695 with thee: they that war4421 against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought657.⁸⁹ 13 For I the LORD3068 thy God430 will hold2388 thy right hand3225, saying559 unto thee, Fear3372 not; I will help5826 thee. 14 Fear3372 not, thou worm8438 Jacob3290, and ye men4962 of Israel3478; I will help5826 thee, saith5002 the LORD3068, and thy redeemer1350, the Holy One6918 of Israel3478.¹⁰ 15 Behold, I will make7760 thee a new2319 sharp2742 threshing4173 instrument having1167 teeth6374: thou shalt thresh1758 the mountains2022, and beat them small1854, and shalt make7760 the hills1389 as chaff4671.¹¹ 16 Thou shalt fan2219 them, and the wind7307 shall carry them away5375, and the whirlwind5591 shall scatter6327 them: and thou shalt rejoice1523 in the LORD3068, and shalt glory1984 in the Holy One6918 of Israel3478. 17 When the poor6041 and needy34 seek1245 water4325, and there is none, and their tongue3956 faileth5405 for thirst6772, I the LORD3068 will hear6030 them, I the God430 of Israel3478 will not forsake5800 them. 18 I will open6605 rivers5104 in high places8205, and fountains4599 in the midst8432 of the valleys1237: I will make7760 the wilderness4057 a pool98 of water4325, and the dry6723 land776 springs4161 of water4325. 19 I will plant5414 in the wilderness4057 the cedar730, the shittah tree7848, and the myrtle1918, and the oil8081 tree6086; I will set7760 in the desert6160 the fir tree1265, and the pine8410, and the box tree8391 together3162: 20 That they may see7200, and know3045, and consider7760, and understand7919 together3162, that the hand3027 of the LORD3068 hath done6213 this, and the Holy One6918 of Israel3478 hath created1254 it.

21 Produce7126 your cause7379, saith559 the LORD3068; bring forth5066 your strong6110 reasons, saith559 the King4428 of Jacob3290.¹² 22 Let them bring them forth5066, and shew5046 us what shall happen7136: let them shew5046 the former things7223, what they be, that we may consider7760 3820 them, and know3045 the latter end319 of them; or declare8085 us things for to come935.¹³ 23 Shew5046 the things that are to come857 hereafter268, that we may know3045 that ye are gods430: yea, do good3190, or do evil7489, that we may be dismayed8159, and behold7200 it together3162. 24 Behold, ye are of nothing369, and your work6467 of nought659: an abomination8441 is he that chooseth977 you.¹⁴¹⁵ 25 I have raised up5782 one from the north6828, and he shall come857: from the rising4217 of the sun8121 shall he call7121 upon my name8034: and he shall come935 upon princes5461 as upon morter2563, and as the potter3335 treadeth7429 clay2916. 26 Who hath declared5046 from the beginning7218, that we may know3045? and beforetime6440, that we may say559, He is righteous6662? yea, there is none that sheweth5046, yea, there is none that declareth8085, yea, there is none that heareth8085 your words561. 27 The first7223 shall say to Zion6726, Behold2009, behold2009 them: and I will give5414 to Jerusalem3389 one that bringeth good tidings1319. 28 For I beheld7200, and there was no man376; even among them, and there was no counsellor3289, that, when I asked7592 of them, could answer7725 a word1697.¹⁶ 29 Behold, they are all vanity205; their works4639 are nothing657: their molten images5262 are wind7307 and confusion8414.
