1 Thus the heavens8064 and the earth776 were finished3615, and all the host of them6635. 2 And on the seventh7637 day3117 God430 ended3615 his work4399 which he had made6213; and he rested7673 on the seventh7637 day3117 from all his work4399 which he had made6213. [Heb 4,4] 3 And God430 blessed1288 the seventh7637 day3117, and sanctified6942 it: because3588 that in it he had rested7673 from all his work4399 which God430 created1254 and made6213.¹

4 These428 are the generations8435 of the heavens8064 and of the earth776 when they were created1254, in the day3117 that the LORD3068 God430 made6213 the earth776 and the heavens8064, 5 And every plant7880 of the field7704 before2962 it was in the earth776, and every herb6212 of the field7704 before2962 it grew6779: for3588 the LORD3068 God430 had not3808 caused it to rain4305 upon the earth776, and there was not369 a man120 to till5647 the ground127. 6 But there went up5927 a mist108 from4480 the earth776, and watered8248 the whole face6440 of the ground127.² 7 And the LORD3068 God430 formed3335 man120 of the dust6083 of4480 the ground127, and breathed5301 into his nostrils639 the breath5397 of life2416; and man120 became a living2416 soul5315.³ [1. 8 And the LORD3068 God430 planted5193 a garden1588 eastward6924 in Eden5731; and there8033 he put7760 the man120 whom834 he had formed3335. 9 And out4480 of the ground127 made6779 the LORD3068 God430 to grow6779 every tree6086 that is pleasant2530 to the sight4758, and good2896 for food3978; the tree6086 of life2416 also in the midst8432 of the garden1588, and the tree6086 of knowledge1847 of good2896 and evil7451. 10 And a river5104 went out3318 of Eden5731 to water8248 the garden1588; and from thence it was parted6504, and became into four702 heads7218. 11 The name8034 of the first259 is Pison6376: that1931 is it which compasseth5437 the whole land776 of Havilah2341, where834 there is gold2091; 12 And the gold2091 of that1931 land776 is good2896: there is bdellium916 and the onyx7718 stone68. 13 And the name8034 of the second8145 river5104 is Gihon1521: the same is it that compasseth5437 the whole land776 of Ethiopia3568.⁴ 14 And the name8034 of the third7992 river5104 is Hiddekel2313: that is it which goeth toward1980 the east6926 of Assyria804. And the fourth7243 river5104 is Euphrates6578.⁵ 15 And the LORD3068 God430 took3947 the man120, and put him3240 into the garden1588 of Eden5731 to dress5647 it and to keep8104 it.⁶

16 And the LORD3068 God430 commanded6680 the man120, saying559, Of every tree6086 of the garden1588 thou mayest freely398 eat398:⁷ 17 But of the tree6086 of the knowledge1847 of good2896 and evil7451, thou shalt not eat398 of it: for in the day3117 that thou eatest398 thereof thou shalt surely4191 die4191.⁸

18 And the LORD3068 God430 said559, It is not good2896 that the man120 should be1961 alone; I will make6213 him an help meet5828 for him.⁹ 19 And out of the ground127 the LORD3068 God430 formed3335 every beast2416 of the field7704, and every fowl5775 of the air8064; and brought935 them unto Adam120 to see7200 what he would call7121 them: and whatsoever Adam120 called7121 every living2416 creature5315, that1931 was the name thereof8034.¹⁰ 20 And Adam120 gave7121 names8034 to all cattle929, and to the fowl5775 of the air8064, and to every beast2416 of the field7704; but for Adam120 there was not found4672 an help meet5828 for him.¹¹

21 And the LORD3068 God430 caused5307 a deep sleep8639 to fall5307 upon Adam121, and he slept3462: and he took3947 one259 of his ribs6763, and closed up5462 the flesh1320 instead thereof; 22 And the rib6763, which the LORD3068 God430 had taken3947 from man120, made1129 he a woman802, and brought935 her unto the man120.¹² 23 And Adam120 said559, This2063 is now6471 bone6106 of my bones6106, and flesh1320 of my flesh1320: she2063 shall be called7121 Woman802, because she2063 was taken3947 out of Man376.¹³¹⁴ 24 Therefore3651 shall a man376 leave5800 his father1 and his mother517, and shall cleave1692 unto his wife802: and they shall be one259 flesh1320.
