1 And it came to pass in the seventh7637 year8141, in the fifth2549 month, the tenth6218 day of the month2320, that certain582 of the elders2205 of Israel3478 came935 to enquire1875 of the LORD3068, and sat3427 before6440 me. 2 Then came the word1697 of the LORD3068 unto me, saying559, 3 Son1121 of man120, speak1696 unto the elders2205 of Israel3478, and say559 unto them, Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Are ye come935 to enquire1875 of me? As I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, I will not be enquired1875 of by you. 4 Wilt thou judge8199 them, son1121 of man120, wilt thou judge8199 them? cause them to know3045 the abominations8441 of their fathers1:¹

5 And say559 unto them, Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; In the day3117 when I chose977 Israel3478, and lifted up5375 mine hand3027 unto the seed2233 of the house1004 of Jacob3290, and made myself known3045 unto them in the land776 of Egypt4714, when I lifted5375 up mine hand3027 unto them, saying559, I am the LORD3068 your God430;² 6 In the day3117 that I lifted up5375 mine hand3027 unto them, to bring them forth3318 of the land776 of Egypt4714 into a land776 that I had espied8446 for them, flowing2100 with milk2461 and honey1706, which is the glory6643 of all lands776: 7 Then said559 I unto them, Cast ye away7993 every man376 the abominations8251 of his eyes5869, and defile2930 not yourselves with the idols1544 of Egypt4714: I am the LORD3068 your God430. 8 But they rebelled4784 against me, and would14 not hearken8085 unto me: they did not every man376 cast away7993 the abominations8251 of their eyes5869, neither did they forsake5800 the idols1544 of Egypt4714: then I said559, I will pour out8210 my fury2534 upon them, to accomplish3615 my anger639 against them in the midst8432 of the land776 of Egypt4714. 9 But I wrought6213 for my name's8034 sake, that it should not be polluted2490 before5869 the heathen1471, among8432 whom they were, in whose sight5869 I made myself known3045 unto them, in bringing them forth3318 out of the land776 of Egypt4714.

10 Wherefore I caused them to go forth3318 out of the land776 of Egypt4714, and brought935 them into the wilderness4057. 11 And I gave5414 them my statutes2708, and shewed3045 them my judgments4941, which if a man120 do6213, he shall even live2425 in them.³ 12 Moreover also I gave5414 them my sabbaths7676, to be a sign226 between me and them, that they might know3045 that I am the LORD3068 that sanctify6942 them. 13 But the house1004 of Israel3478 rebelled4784 against me in the wilderness4057: they walked1980 not in my statutes2708, and they despised3988 my judgments4941, which if a man120 do6213, he shall even live2425 in them; and my sabbaths7676 they greatly3966 polluted2490: then I said559, I would pour out8210 my fury2534 upon them in the wilderness4057, to consume3615 them. 14 But I wrought6213 for my name's8034 sake, that it should not be polluted2490 before5869 the heathen1471, in whose sight5869 I brought them out3318. 15 Yet also I lifted up5375 my hand3027 unto them in the wilderness4057, that I would not bring935 them into the land776 which I had given5414 them, flowing2100 with milk2461 and honey1706, which is the glory6643 of all lands776; 16 Because they despised3988 my judgments4941, and walked1980 not in my statutes2708, but polluted2490 my sabbaths7676: for their heart3820 went1980 after310 their idols1544. 17 Nevertheless mine eye5869 spared2347 them from destroying7843 them, neither did I make6213 an end3617 of them in the wilderness4057. 18 But I said559 unto their children1121 in the wilderness4057, Walk3212 ye not in the statutes2706 of your fathers1, neither observe8104 their judgments4941, nor defile2930 yourselves with their idols1544: 19 I am the LORD3068 your God430; walk3212 in my statutes2708, and keep8104 my judgments4941, and do6213 them; 20 And hallow6942 my sabbaths7676; and they shall be a sign226 between me and you, that ye may know3045 that I am the LORD3068 your God430. 21 Notwithstanding the children1121 rebelled4784 against me: they walked1980 not in my statutes2708, neither kept8104 my judgments4941 to do6213 them, which if a man120 do6213, he shall even live2425 in them; they polluted2490 my sabbaths7676: then I said559, I would pour out8210 my fury2534 upon them, to accomplish3615 my anger639 against them in the wilderness4057. 22 Nevertheless I withdrew7725 mine hand3027, and wrought6213 for my name's8034 sake, that it should not be polluted2490 in the sight5869 of the heathen1471, in whose sight5869 I brought them forth3318. 23 I lifted up5375 mine hand3027 unto them also in the wilderness4057, that I would scatter6327 them among the heathen1471, and disperse2219 them through the countries776; 24 Because they had not executed6213 my judgments4941, but had despised3988 my statutes2708, and had polluted2490 my sabbaths7676, and their eyes5869 were after310 their fathers'1 idols1544. 25 Wherefore I gave5414 them also statutes2706 that were not good2896, and judgments4941 whereby they should not live2421; 26 And I polluted2930 them in their own gifts4979, in that they caused to pass through5674 the fire all that openeth6363 the womb7356, that I might make them desolate8074, to the end that they might know3045 that I am the LORD3068.

27 Therefore, son1121 of man120, speak1696 unto the house1004 of Israel3478, and say559 unto them, Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Yet in this your fathers1 have blasphemed1442 me, in that they have committed4603 a trespass4604 against me.⁴ 28 For when I had brought935 them into the land776, for the which I lifted up5375 mine hand3027 to give5414 it to them, then they saw7200 every high7311 hill1389, and all the thick5687 trees6086, and they offered2076 there their sacrifices2077, and there they presented5414 the provocation3708 of their offering7133: there also they made7760 their sweet5207 savour7381, and poured out5258 there their drink offerings5262. 29 Then I said559 unto them, What is the high place1116 whereunto ye go935? And the name8034 thereof is called7121 Bamah1117 unto this day3117.⁵ 30 Wherefore say559 unto the house1004 of Israel3478, Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Are ye polluted2930 after the manner1870 of your fathers1? and commit ye whoredom2181 after310 their abominations8251? 31 For when ye offer5375 your gifts4979, when ye make your sons1121 to pass through5674 the fire784, ye pollute2930 yourselves with all your idols1544, even unto this day3117: and shall I be enquired1875 of by you, O house1004 of Israel3478? As I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, I will not be enquired1875 of by you. 32 And that which cometh5927 into your mind7307 shall not be at all, that ye say559, We will be1961 as the heathen1471, as the families4940 of the countries776, to serve8334 wood6086 and stone68.

33 As I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, surely with a mighty2389 hand3027, and with a stretched out5186 arm2220, and with fury2534 poured out8210, will I rule4427 over you: 34 And I will bring you out3318 from the people5971, and will gather6908 you out of the countries776 wherein ye are scattered6327, with a mighty2389 hand3027, and with a stretched out5186 arm2220, and with fury2534 poured out8210. 35 And I will bring935 you into the wilderness4057 of the people5971, and there will I plead8199 with you face6440 to face6440. 36 Like as I pleaded8199 with your fathers1 in the wilderness4057 of the land776 of Egypt4714, so will I plead8199 with you, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069. 37 And I will cause you to pass5674 under the rod7626, and I will bring935 you into the bond4562 of the covenant1285:⁶ 38 And I will purge out1305 from among you the rebels4775, and them that transgress6586 against me: I will bring them forth3318 out of the country776 where they sojourn4033, and they shall not enter935 into the land127 of Israel3478: and ye shall know3045 that I am the LORD3068. 39 As for you, O house1004 of Israel3478, thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Go3212 ye, serve5647 ye every one376 his idols1544, and hereafter310 also, if ye will not hearken8085 unto me: but pollute2490 ye my holy6944 name8034 no more with your gifts4979, and with your idols1544. 40 For in mine holy6944 mountain2022, in the mountain2022 of the height4791 of Israel3478, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, there shall all the house1004 of Israel3478, all of them in the land776, serve5647 me: there will I accept7521 them, and there will I require1875 your offerings8641, and the firstfruits7225 of your oblations4864, with all your holy things6944.⁷ 41 I will accept7521 you with your sweet5207 savour7381, when I bring you out3318 from the people5971, and gather6908 you out of the countries776 wherein ye have been scattered6327; and I will be sanctified6942 in you before5869 the heathen1471.⁸ 42 And ye shall know3045 that I am the LORD3068, when I shall bring935 you into the land127 of Israel3478, into the country776 for the which I lifted up5375 mine hand3027 to give5414 it to your fathers1. 43 And there shall ye remember2142 your ways1870, and all your doings5949, wherein ye have been defiled2930; and ye shall lothe6962 yourselves in your own sight6440 for all your evils7451 that ye have committed6213. 44 And ye shall know3045 that I am the LORD3068, when I have wrought6213 with you for my name's8034 sake, not according to your wicked7451 ways1870, nor according to your corrupt7843 doings5949, O ye house1004 of Israel3478, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069.

45 Moreover the word1697 of the LORD3068 came unto me, saying559, 46 Son1121 of man120, set7760 thy face6440 toward1870 the south8486, and drop5197 thy word toward the south1864, and prophesy5012 against the forest3293 of the south5045 field7704; 47 And say559 to the forest3293 of the south5045, Hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD3068; Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Behold, I will kindle3341 a fire784 in thee, and it shall devour398 every green3892 tree6086 in thee, and every dry3002 tree6086: the flaming3852 flame7957 shall not be quenched3518, and all faces6440 from the south5045 to the north6828 shall be burned6866 therein. 48 And all flesh1320 shall see7200 that I the LORD3068 have kindled1197 it: it shall not be quenched3518. 49 Then said559 I, Ah162 Lord136 GOD3069! they say559 of me, Doth he not speak4911 parables4912?
