1 Moreover take thou up5375 a lamentation7015 for the princes5387 of Israel3478, 2 And say559, What is thy mother517? A lioness3833: she lay down7257 among lions738, she nourished7235 her whelps1482 among8432 young lions3715. 3 And she brought up5927 one259 of her whelps1482: it became a young lion3715, and it learned3925 to catch2963 the prey2964; it devoured398 men120. 4 The nations1471 also heard8085 of him; he was taken8610 in their pit7845, and they brought935 him with chains2397 unto the land776 of Egypt4714. 5 Now when she saw7200 that she had waited3176, and her hope8615 was lost6, then she took3947 another259 of her whelps1482, and made7760 him a young lion3715. 6 And he went up and down1980 among8432 the lions738, he became a young lion3715, and learned3925 to catch2963 the prey2964, and devoured398 men120. 7 And he knew3045 their desolate palaces490, and he laid waste2717 their cities5892; and the land776 was desolate3456, and the fulness4393 thereof, by the noise6963 of his roaring7581.¹² 8 Then the nations1471 set5414 against him on every side5439 from the provinces4082, and spread6566 their net7568 over him: he was taken8610 in their pit7845. 9 And they put5414 him in ward5474 in chains2397, and brought935 him to the king4428 of Babylon894: they brought935 him into holds4685, that his voice6963 should no more be heard8085 upon the mountains2022 of Israel3478.³

10 Thy mother517 is like a vine1612 in thy blood1818 1818, planted8362 by the waters4325: she was fruitful6509 and full of branches6058 by reason of many7227 waters4325.⁴ 11 And she had strong5797 rods4294 for the sceptres7626 of them that bare rule4910, and her stature6967 was exalted1361 among the thick branches5688, and she appeared7200 in her height1363 with the multitude7230 of her branches1808. 12 But she was plucked up5428 in fury2534, she was cast down7993 to the ground776, and the east6921 wind7307 dried up3001 her fruit6529: her strong5797 rods4294 were broken6561 and withered3001; the fire784 consumed398 them. 13 And now she is planted8362 in the wilderness4057, in a dry6723 and thirsty6772 ground776. 14 And fire784 is gone out3318 of a rod4294 of her branches905, which hath devoured398 her fruit6529, so that she hath no strong5797 rod4294 to be a sceptre7626 to rule4910. This is a lamentation7015, and shall be for a lamentation7015.
