1 Then came935 certain582 of the elders2205 of Israel3478 unto me, and sat3427 before6440 me. 2 And the word1697 of the LORD3068 came unto me, saying559, 3 Son1121 of man120, these men582 have set up5927 their idols1544 in their heart3820, and put5414 the stumblingblock4383 of their iniquity5771 before5227 their face6440: should I be enquired1875 of at all1875 by them? 4 Therefore speak1696 unto them, and say559 unto them, Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Every man376 of the house1004 of Israel3478 that setteth up5927 his idols1544 in his heart3820, and putteth7760 the stumblingblock4383 of his iniquity5771 before5227 his face6440, and cometh935 to the prophet5030; I the LORD3068 will answer6030 him that cometh935 according to the multitude7230 of his idols1544; 5 That I may take8610 the house1004 of Israel3478 in their own heart3820, because they are all estranged2114 from me through their idols1544. 6 Therefore say559 unto the house1004 of Israel3478, Thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; Repent7725, and turn7725 yourselves from your idols1544; and turn away7725 your faces6440 from all your abominations8441.¹ 7 For every one376 of the house1004 of Israel3478, or of the stranger1616 that sojourneth1481 in Israel3478, which separateth5144 himself from me310, and setteth up5927 his idols1544 in his heart3820, and putteth7760 the stumblingblock4383 of his iniquity5771 before5227 his face6440, and cometh935 to a prophet5030 to enquire1875 of him concerning me; I the LORD3068 will answer6030 him by myself: 8 And I will set5414 my face6440 against that man376, and will make8074 him a sign226 and a proverb4912, and I will cut him off3772 from the midst8432 of my people5971; and ye shall know3045 that I am the LORD3068. 9 And if the prophet5030 be deceived6601 when he hath spoken1696 a thing1697, I the LORD3068 have deceived6601 that prophet5030, and I will stretch out5186 my hand3027 upon him, and will destroy8045 him from the midst8432 of my people5971 Israel3478. 10 And they shall bear5375 the punishment of their iniquity5771: the punishment5771 of the prophet5030 shall be even as the punishment5771 of him that seeketh1875 unto him; 11 That the house1004 of Israel3478 may go no more astray8582 from me310, neither be polluted2930 any more with all their transgressions6588; but that they may be my people5971, and I may be their God430, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069.

12 The word1697 of the LORD3068 came again to me, saying559, 13 Son1121 of man120, when the land776 sinneth2398 against me by trespassing4603 grievously4604, then will I stretch out5186 mine hand3027 upon it, and will break7665 the staff4294 of the bread3899 thereof, and will send7971 famine7458 upon it, and will cut off3772 man120 and beast929 from it: 14 Though these three7969 men582, Noah5146, Daniel1840, and Job347, were in it8432, they should deliver5337 but their own souls5315 by their righteousness6666, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069. 15 If3863 I cause noisome7451 beasts2416 to pass through5674 the land776, and they spoil7921 it, so that it be desolate8077, that no man may pass through5674 because6440 of the beasts2416:² 16 Though these three7969 men582 were in it8432, as I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, they shall deliver5337 neither sons1121 nor daughters1323; they only shall be delivered5337, but the land776 shall be desolate8077.³ 17 Or if I bring935 a sword2719 upon that land776, and say559, Sword2719, go through5674 the land776; so that I cut off3772 man120 and beast929 from it: 18 Though these three7969 men582 were in it8432, as I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, they shall deliver5337 neither sons1121 nor daughters1323, but they only shall be delivered5337 themselves. 19 Or if I send7971 a pestilence1698 into that land776, and pour out8210 my fury2534 upon it in blood1818, to cut off3772 from it man120 and beast929: 20 Though Noah5146, Daniel1840, and Job347, were in it8432, as I live2416, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069, they shall deliver5337 neither son1121 nor518 daughter1323; they shall but deliver5337 their own souls5315 by their righteousness6666. 21 For thus saith559 the Lord136 GOD3069; How much more when I send7971 my four702 sore7451 judgments8201 upon Jerusalem3389, the sword2719, and the famine7458, and the noisome7451 beast2416, and the pestilence1698, to cut off3772 from it man120 and beast929?⁴ 22 Yet, behold, therein shall be left3498 a remnant6413 that shall be brought forth3318, both sons1121 and daughters1323: behold, they shall come forth3318 unto you, and ye shall see7200 their way1870 and their doings5949: and ye shall be comforted5162 concerning the evil7451 that I have brought935 upon Jerusalem3389, even concerning all that I have brought935 upon it. 23 And they shall comfort5162 you, when ye see7200 their ways1870 and their doings5949: and ye shall know3045 that I have not done6213 without cause2600 all that I have done6213 in it, saith5002 the Lord136 GOD3069.
