1 And afterward310 Moses4872 and Aaron175 went in935, and told559 Pharaoh6547, Thus saith559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel3478, Let my people5971 go7971, that they may hold a feast2287 unto me in the wilderness4057. 2 And Pharaoh6547 said559, Who is the LORD3068, that I should obey8085 his voice6963 to let Israel3478 go7971? I know3045 not the LORD3068, neither will I let Israel3478 go7971.

3 And they said559, The God430 of the Hebrews5680 hath met7122 with us: let us go3212, we pray thee, three7969 days'3117 journey1870 into the desert4057, and sacrifice2076 unto the LORD3068 our God430; lest he fall6293 upon us with pestilence1698, or with the sword2719. 4 And the king4428 of Egypt4714 said559 unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses4872 and Aaron175, let6544 the people5971 from their works4639? get3212 you unto your burdens5450. 5 And Pharaoh6547 said559, Behold, the people5971 of the land776 now are many7227, and ye make them rest7673 from their burdens5450. 6 And Pharaoh6547 commanded6680 the same day3117 the taskmasters5065 of the people5971, and their officers7860, saying559, 7 Ye shall no more3254 give5414 the people5971 straw8401 to make3835 brick3843, as heretofore8032 8543: let them go3212 and gather7197 straw8401 for themselves. 8 And the tale4971 of the bricks3843, which they did make6213 heretofore8032 8543, ye shall lay7760 upon them; ye shall not diminish1639 ought thereof: for they be idle7503; therefore they cry6817, saying559, Let us go3212 and sacrifice2076 to our God430. 9 Let there more work5656 be laid3513 upon the men582, that they may labour6213 therein; and let them not regard8159 vain8267 words1697.¹

10 And the taskmasters5065 of the people5971 went out3318, and their officers7860, and they spake559 to the people5971, saying559, Thus saith559 Pharaoh6547, I will not give5414 you straw8401. 11 Go3212 ye, get3947 you straw8401 where834 ye can find4672 it: yet3588 not ought1697 of your work5656 shall be diminished1639. 12 So the people5971 were scattered abroad6327 throughout all the land776 of Egypt4714 to gather7197 stubble7179 instead of straw8401. 13 And the taskmasters5065 hasted213 them, saying559, Fulfil3615 your works4639, your daily3117 tasks1697, as when there was1961 straw8401.² 14 And the officers7860 of the children1121 of Israel3478, which Pharaoh's6547 taskmasters5065 had set7760 over them, were beaten5221, and demanded559, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled3615 your task2706 in making brick3835 both yesterday8543 and to day3117, as heretofore8032 8543?

15 Then the officers7860 of the children1121 of Israel3478 came935 and cried6817 unto Pharaoh6547, saying559, Wherefore dealest6213 thou thus with thy servants5650? 16 There is no straw8401 given5414 unto thy servants5650, and they say559 to us, Make6213 brick3843: and, behold, thy servants5650 are beaten5221; but the fault2398 is in thine own people5971. 17 But he said559, Ye are idle7503, ye are idle7503: therefore ye say559, Let us go3212 and do sacrifice2076 to the LORD3068. 18 Go3212 therefore now, and work5647; for there shall no straw8401 be given5414 you, yet shall ye deliver5414 the tale8506 of bricks3843. 19 And the officers7860 of the children1121 of Israel3478 did see7200 that they were in evil7451 case, after it was said559, Ye shall not minish1639 ought from your bricks3843 of your daily3117 3117 task1697. 20 And they met6293 Moses4872 and Aaron175, who stood5324 in the way7125, as they came forth3318 from Pharaoh6547: 21 And they said559 unto them, The LORD3068 look7200 upon you, and judge8199; because ye have made our savour7381 to be abhorred887 in the eyes5869 of Pharaoh6547, and in the eyes5869 of his servants5650, to put5414 a sword2719 in their hand3027 to slay2026 us.³ 22 And Moses4872 returned7725 unto the LORD3068, and said559, Lord136, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated7489 this people5971? why is it that thou hast sent7971 me? 23 For since I came935 to Pharaoh6547 to speak1696 in thy name8034, he hath done evil7489 to this people5971; neither hast thou delivered5337 thy people5971 at all5337.⁴
