1 And Jehoshaphat3092 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead, and strengthened2388 himself against Israel3478. 2 And he placed5414 forces2428 in all the fenced1219 cities5892 of Judah3063, and set5414 garrisons5333 in the land776 of Judah3063, and in the cities5892 of Ephraim669, which Asa609 his father1 had taken3920. 3 And the LORD3068 was with Jehoshaphat3092, because he walked1980 in the first7223 ways1870 of his father1 David1732, and sought1875 not unto Baalim1168;¹ 4 But sought1875 to the LORD God430 of his father1, and walked1980 in his commandments4687, and not after the doings4639 of Israel3478. 5 Therefore the LORD3068 stablished3559 the kingdom4467 in his hand3027; and all Judah3063 brought5414 to Jehoshaphat3092 presents4503; and he had riches6239 and honour3519 in abundance7230.² 6 And his heart3820 was lifted up1361 in the ways1870 of the LORD3068: moreover he took away5493 the high places1116 and groves842 out of Judah3063.³ 7 Also in the third7969 year8141 of his reign4427 he sent7971 to his princes8269, even to Benhail1134, and to Obadiah5662, and to Zechariah2148, and to Nethaneel5417, and to Michaiah4322, to teach3925 in the cities5892 of Judah3063. 8 And with them he sent Levites3881, even Shemaiah8098, and Nethaniah5418, and Zebadiah2069, and Asahel6214, and Shemiramoth8070, and Jehonathan3083, and Adonijah138, and Tobijah2900, and Tobadonijah2899, Levites3881; and with them Elishama476 and Jehoram3088, priests3548. 9 And they taught3925 in Judah3063, and had the book5612 of the law8451 of the LORD3068 with them, and went about5437 throughout all the cities5892 of Judah3063, and taught3925 the people5971.

10 And the fear6343 of the LORD3068 fell upon all the kingdoms4467 of the lands776 that were round about5439 Judah3063, so that they made no war3898 against Jehoshaphat3092.⁴ 11 Also some of the Philistines6430 brought935 Jehoshaphat3092 presents4503, and tribute4853 silver3701; and the Arabians6163 brought935 him flocks6629, seven7651 thousand505 and seven7651 hundred3967 rams352, and seven7651 thousand505 and seven7651 hundred3967 he goats8495. 12 And Jehoshaphat3092 waxed1980 great1432 exceedingly4605; and he built1129 in Judah3063 castles1003, and cities5892 of store4543.⁵ 13 And he had much7227 business4399 in the cities5892 of Judah3063: and the men582 of war4421, mighty men1368 of valour2428, were in Jerusalem3389. 14 And these are the numbers6486 of them according to the house1004 of their fathers1: Of Judah3063, the captains8269 of thousands505; Adnah5734 the chief8269, and with him mighty men1368 of valour2428 three7969 hundred3967 thousand505. 15 And next3027 to him was Jehohanan3076 the captain8269, and with him two hundred3967 and fourscore8084 thousand505.⁶ 16 And next3027 him was Amasiah6007 the son1121 of Zichri2147, who willingly offered5068 himself unto the LORD3068; and with him two hundred3967 thousand505 mighty men1368 of valour2428. 17 And of Benjamin1144; Eliada450 a mighty man1368 of valour2428, and with him armed men5401 with bow7198 and shield4043 two hundred3967 thousand505. 18 And next3027 him was Jehozabad3075, and with him an hundred3967 and fourscore8084 thousand505 ready prepared2502 for the war6635. 19 These waited8334 on the king4428, beside those whom the king4428 put5414 in the fenced4013 cities5892 throughout all Judah3063.
