1 And it came to pass, when Rehoboam7346 had established3559 the kingdom4438, and had strengthened2393 himself, he forsook5800 the law8451 of the LORD3068, and all Israel3478 with him. 2 And it came to pass, that in the fifth2549 year8141 of king4428 Rehoboam7346 Shishak7895 king4428 of Egypt4714 came up5927 against Jerusalem3389, because they had transgressed4603 against the LORD3068, 3 With twelve hundred3967 505 chariots7393, and threescore8346 thousand505 horsemen6571: and the people5971 were without number4557 that came935 with him out of Egypt4714; the Lubims3864, the Sukkiims5525, and the Ethiopians3569. 4 And he took3920 the fenced4694 cities5892 which pertained to Judah3063, and came935 to Jerusalem3389. 5 Then came935 Shemaiah8098 the prophet5030 to Rehoboam7346, and to the princes8269 of Judah3063, that were gathered together622 to Jerusalem3389 because6440 of Shishak7895, and said559 unto them, Thus saith559 the LORD3068, Ye have forsaken5800 me, and therefore have I also637 left5800 you in the hand3027 of Shishak7895. 6 Whereupon the princes8269 of Israel3478 and the king4428 humbled3665 themselves; and they said559, The LORD3068 is righteous6662. 7 And when the LORD3068 saw7200 that they humbled3665 themselves, the word1697 of the LORD3068 came to Shemaiah8098, saying559, They have humbled3665 themselves; therefore I will not destroy7843 them, but I will grant5414 them some4592 deliverance6413; and my wrath2534 shall not be poured out5413 upon Jerusalem3389 by the hand3027 of Shishak7895.¹ 8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants5650; that they may know3045 my service5656, and the service5656 of the kingdoms4467 of the countries776. 9 So Shishak7895 king4428 of Egypt4714 came up5927 against Jerusalem3389, and took away3947 the treasures214 of the house1004 of the LORD3068, and the treasures214 of the king's4428 house1004; he took3947 all: he carried away3947 also the shields4043 of gold2091 which Solomon8010 had made6213. 10 Instead of which king4428 Rehoboam7346 made6213 shields4043 of brass5178, and committed6485 them to the hands3027 of the chief8269 of the guard7323, that kept8104 the entrance6607 of the king's4428 house1004. 11 And when1767 the king4428 entered935 into the house1004 of the LORD3068, the guard7323 came935 and fetched5375 them, and brought them again7725 into the guard7323 chamber8372. 12 And when he humbled3665 himself, the wrath639 of the LORD3068 turned7725 from him, that he would not destroy7843 him altogether3617: and also in Judah3063 things1697 went well2896.²

13 So king4428 Rehoboam7346 strengthened2388 himself in Jerusalem3389, and reigned4427: for Rehoboam7346 was one259 and forty705 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign4427, and he reigned4427 seventeen7651 6240 years8141 in Jerusalem3389, the city5892 which the LORD3068 had chosen977 out of all the tribes7626 of Israel3478, to put7760 his name8034 there. And his mother's517 name8034 was Naamah5279 an Ammonitess5985. 14 And he did6213 evil7451, because he prepared3559 not his heart3820 to seek1875 the LORD3068.³ 15 Now the acts1697 of Rehoboam7346, first7223 and last314, are they not written3789 in the book1697 of Shemaiah8098 the prophet5030, and of Iddo5714 the seer2374 concerning genealogies3187? And there were wars4421 between Rehoboam7346 and Jeroboam3379 continually3117.⁴ 16 And Rehoboam7346 slept7901 with his fathers1, and was buried6912 in the city5892 of David1732: and Abijah29 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead.
