1 Now the Philistines6430 fought3898 against Israel3478: and the men582 of Israel3478 fled5127 from before6440 the Philistines6430, and fell down5307 slain2491 in mount2022 Gilboa1533.¹ 2 And the Philistines6430 followed hard1692 upon Saul7586 and upon his sons1121; and the Philistines6430 slew5221 Jonathan3083, and Abinadab41, and Malchishua4444, Saul's7586 sons1121. 3 And the battle4421 went sore3513 against Saul7586, and the archers3384 582 7198 hit4672 him; and he was sore3966 wounded2342 of the archers3384 582 7198.²³ 4 Then said559 Saul7586 unto his armourbearer5375 3627, Draw8025 thy sword2719, and thrust me through1856 therewith; lest these uncircumcised6189 come935 and thrust me through1856, and abuse5953 me. But his armourbearer5375 3627 would14 not; for he was sore3966 afraid3372. Therefore Saul7586 took3947 a sword2719, and fell5307 upon it.⁴ 5 And when his armourbearer5375 3627 saw7200 that Saul7586 was dead4191, he fell5307 likewise upon his sword2719, and died4191 with him. 6 So Saul7586 died4191, and his three7969 sons1121, and his armourbearer5375 3627, and all his men582, that same day3117 together3162. 7 And when the men582 of Israel3478 that were on the other side5676 of the valley6010, and they that were on the other side5676 Jordan3383, saw7200 that the men582 of Israel3478 fled5127, and that Saul7586 and his sons1121 were dead4191, they forsook5800 the cities5892, and fled5127; and the Philistines6430 came935 and dwelt3427 in them.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow4283, when the Philistines6430 came935 to strip6584 the slain2491, that they found4672 Saul7586 and his three7969 sons1121 fallen5307 in mount2022 Gilboa1533. 9 And they cut off3772 his head7218, and stripped off6584 his armour3627, and sent7971 into the land776 of the Philistines6430 round about5439, to publish1319 it in the house1004 of their idols6091, and among the people5971. 10 And they put7760 his armour3627 in the house1004 of Ashtaroth6252 1045: and they fastened8628 his body1472 to the wall2346 of Bethshan1052. 11 And when the inhabitants3427 of Jabeshgilead3003 1568 heard8085 of that which the Philistines6430 had done6213 to Saul7586;⁵ 12 All the valiant2428 men376 381 arose6965, and went3212 all night3915, and took3947 the body1472 of Saul7586 and the bodies1472 of his sons1121 from the wall2346 of Bethshan1052, and came935 to Jabesh3003, and burnt8313 them there. 13 And they took3947 their bones6106, and buried6912 them under a tree815 at Jabesh3003, and fasted6684 seven7651 days3117.
