1 And David1732 said559 in his heart3820, I shall now perish5595 one259 day3117 by the hand3027 of Saul7586: there is nothing better2896 for me than that3588 I should speedily4422 escape4422 into the land776 of the Philistines6430; and Saul7586 shall despair2976 of me, to seek1245 me any more in any coast1366 of Israel3478: so shall I escape4422 out of his hand3027.¹ 2 And David1732 arose6965, and he passed over5674 with the six8337 hundred3967 men376 that were with him unto Achish397, the son1121 of Maoch4582, king4428 of Gath1661. 3 And David1732 dwelt3427 with Achish397 at Gath1661, he and his men582, every man376 with his household1004, even David1732 with his two8147 wives802, Ahinoam293 the Jezreelitess3159, and Abigail26 the Carmelitess3762, Nabal's5037 wife802. 4 And it was told5046 Saul7586 that David1732 was fled1272 to Gath1661: and he sought1245 no more again3254 3254 for him. 5 And David1732 said559 unto Achish397, If I have now found4672 grace2580 in thine eyes5869, let them give5414 me a place4725 in some259 town5892 in the country7704, that I may dwell3427 there: for why should thy servant5650 dwell3427 in the royal4467 city5892 with thee? 6 Then Achish397 gave5414 him Ziklag6860 that day3117: wherefore Ziklag6860 pertaineth unto the kings4428 of Judah3063 unto this day3117. 7 And the time4557 3117 that David1732 dwelt3427 in the country7704 of the Philistines6430 was a full year3117 and four702 months2320.²³

8 And David1732 and his men582 went up5927, and invaded6584 the Geshurites1651, and the Gezrites1511, and the Amalekites6003: for those2007 nations were of old5769 the inhabitants3427 of the land776, as thou goest935 to Shur7793, even unto the land776 of Egypt4714.⁴ 9 And David1732 smote5221 the land776, and left neither man376 nor woman802 alive2421, and took away3947 the sheep6629, and the oxen1241, and the asses2543, and the camels1581, and the apparel899, and returned7725, and came935 to Achish397. 10 And Achish397 said559, Whither408 have ye made a road6584 to day3117? And David1732 said559, Against the south5045 of Judah3063, and against the south5045 of the Jerahmeelites3397, and against the south5045 of the Kenites7017.⁵ 11 And David1732 saved2421 neither man376 nor woman802 alive2421, to bring935 tidings to Gath1661, saying559, Lest they should tell5046 on us, saying559, So did6213 David1732, and so will be his manner4941 all the while3117 he dwelleth3427 in the country7704 of the Philistines6430. 12 And Achish397 believed539 David1732, saying559, He hath made his people5971 Israel3478 utterly887 to abhor887 him; therefore he shall be my servant5650 for ever5769.⁶
