1 Then all Israel3478 gathered6908 themselves to David1732 unto Hebron2275, saying559, Behold, we are thy bone6106 and thy flesh1320. 2 And moreover in time8543 past8032, even when Saul7586 was king4428, thou wast he that leddest out3318 and broughtest in935 Israel3478: and the LORD3068 thy God430 said559 unto thee, Thou shalt feed7462 my people5971 Israel3478, and thou shalt be ruler5057 over my people1571 Israel3478.¹² 3 Therefore came935 all the elders2205 of Israel3478 to the king4428 to Hebron2275; and David1732 made3772 a covenant1285 with them in Hebron2275 before6440 the LORD3068; and they anointed4886 David1732 king4428 over Israel3478, according to the word1697 of the LORD3068 by3027 Samuel8050.³ 4 And David1732 and all Israel3478 went3212 to Jerusalem3389, which is Jebus2982; where the Jebusites2983 were, the inhabitants3427 of the land776. 5 And the inhabitants3427 of Jebus2982 said559 to David1732, Thou shalt not come935 hither. Nevertheless David1732 took3920 the castle4686 of Zion6726, which is the city5892 of David1732. 6 And David1732 said559, Whosoever smiteth5221 the Jebusites2983 first7223 shall be chief7218 and captain8269. So Joab3097 the son1121 of Zeruiah6870 went5927 first7223 up5927, and was chief7218.⁴ 7 And David1732 dwelt3427 in the castle4679; therefore they called7121 it the city5892 of David1732.⁵ 8 And he built1129 the city5892 round about5439, even from Millo4407 round about5439: and Joab3097 repaired2421 the rest7605 of the city5892.⁶ 9 So David1732 waxed3212 greater1980 and greater1419: for the LORD3068 of hosts6635 was with him.⁷

Therefore he would14 not drink8354 it.
