1 Now the Philistines6430 fought3898 against Israel3478; and the men376 of Israel3478 fled5127 from before6440 the Philistines6430, and fell down5307 slain2491 in mount2022 Gilboa1533.¹ 2 And the Philistines6430 followed hard1692 after310 Saul7586, and after310 his sons1121; and the Philistines6430 slew5221 Jonathan3129, and Abinadab41, and Malchishua4444, the sons1121 of Saul7586.² 3 And the battle4421 went sore3513 against Saul7586, and the archers3384 7198 hit4672 him, and he was wounded2342 of the archers3384.³⁴ 4 Then said559 Saul7586 to his armourbearer5375 3627, Draw8025 thy sword2719, and thrust1856 me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised6189 come935 and abuse5953 me. But his armourbearer5375 3627 would14 not; for he was sore3966 afraid3372. So Saul7586 took3947 a sword2719, and fell5307 upon it.⁵ 5 And when his armourbearer5375 3627 saw7200 that Saul7586 was dead4191, he fell5307 likewise on the sword2719, and died4191. 6 So Saul7586 died4191, and his three7969 sons1121, and all his house1004 died4191 together3162. 7 And when all the men376 of Israel3478 that were in the valley6010 saw7200 that they fled5127, and that Saul7586 and his sons1121 were dead4191, then they forsook5800 their cities5892, and fled5127: and the Philistines6430 came935 and dwelt3427 in them.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow4283, when the Philistines6430 came935 to strip6584 the slain2491, that they found4672 Saul7586 and his sons1121 fallen5307 in mount2022 Gilboa1533. 9 And when they had stripped6584 him, they took5375 his head7218, and his armour3627, and sent7971 into the land776 of the Philistines6430 round about5439, to carry tidings1319 unto their idols6091, and to the people5971. 10 And they put7760 his armour3627 in the house1004 of their gods430, and fastened8628 his head1538 in the temple1004 of Dagon1712. 11 And when all Jabeshgilead3003 1568 heard8085 all that the Philistines6430 had done6213 to Saul7586, 12 They arose6965, all the valiant2428 men376, and took away5375 the body1480 of Saul7586, and the bodies1480 of his sons1121, and brought935 them to Jabesh3003, and buried6912 their bones6106 under the oak424 in Jabesh3003, and fasted6684 seven7651 days3117. 13 So Saul7586 died4191 for his transgression4604 which he committed4603 against the LORD3068, even against the word1697 of the LORD3068, which he kept8104 not, and also for asking7592 counsel of one that had a familiar spirit178, to enquire1875 of it;⁶ 14 And enquired1875 not of the LORD3068: therefore he slew4191 him, and turned5437 the kingdom4410 unto David1732 the son1121 of Jesse3448.⁷
