2 GnadeGnade euch und FriedeFriede von GottGott, unserem VaterVater, und dem HerrnHerrn JesusJesus ChristusChristus!2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Gepriesen sei der GottGott und VaterVater unseres HerrnHerrn JesusJesus ChristusChristus, der VaterVater der Erbarmungen und GottGott allen Trostes,3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 der uns tröstet1 in all unserer DrangsalDrangsal, damit wir die trösten können, die in allerlei DrangsalDrangsal sind, durch den Trost, mit dem wir selbst von GottGott getröstet werden; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 weil, wie die Leiden des ChristusChristus gegen uns überschwänglich sind, so auch durch den ChristusChristus unser Trost überschwänglich ist. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 Es sei aber wir werden bedrängt, so ist es um eures Trostes und HeilesHeiles willen, das bewirkt wird im Ausharren in denselben2 Leiden, die auch wir leiden. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.1
7 Und unsere HoffnungHoffnung für euch ist fest. Es sei wir werden getröstet, so ist es um eures Trostes und HeilesHeiles willen, indem wir wissen, dass, wie ihr der Leiden teilhaftig seid, so auch des Trostes. 7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
8 Denn wir wollen nicht, dass ihr unkundig seid, BrüderBrüder, was unsere DrangsalDrangsal betrifft, die [uns] in AsienAsien widerfahren ist, dass wir übermäßig beschwert wurden, über Vermögen, so dass wir selbst am LebenLeben verzweifelten. 8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
9 Wir selbst aber hatten das Urteil des TodesTodes in uns selbst, damit unser VertrauenVertrauen nicht auf uns selbst wäre, sondern auf GottGott3, der die Toten auferweckt, 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:2
10 der uns von so großem TodTod errettet hat und errettet, auf den wir unsere HoffnungHoffnung gesetzt haben, dass er uns auch weiterhin erretten werde; 10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
11 indem auch ihr durch das FlehenFlehen für uns mitwirkt, damit für die durch viele Personen uns verliehene Gnadengabe durch viele für uns Danksagung dargebracht werde. 11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
12 Denn unser Rühmen ist dieses: das ZeugnisZeugnis unseres GewissensGewissens, dass wir in Einfalt und Lauterkeit GottesGottes4, nicht in fleischlicher Weisheit, sondern in der GnadeGnade GottesGottes unseren Verkehr gehabt haben in der WeltWelt, am meisten5 aber bei euch. 12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
13 Denn wir schreiben euch nichts anderes als das, was ihr kennt6 oder auch anerkennt; ich hoffe aber, dass ihr es bis ans Ende anerkennen werdet,13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;
14 wie ihr auch uns zum Teil anerkannt habt, dass wir euer Ruhm sind, so wie auch ihr der unsrige seid an dem TagTag des HerrnHerrn JesusJesus.14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 Und in diesem VertrauenVertrauen wollte ich vorher zu euch kommen, damit ihr eine zweite GnadeGnade hättet, 15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;3
16 und bei euch hindurch nach MazedonienMazedonien reisen und wiederum von MazedonienMazedonien zu euch kommen und von euch nach JudäaJudäa geleitet werden.16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
17 Habe ich nun, indem ich mir dieses vornahm, mich etwa der Leichtfertigkeit bedient? Oder was ich mir vornehme, nehme ich mir das nach dem FleischFleisch vor, damit bei mir das Ja-ja und das Nein-nein wäre?17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
18 GottGott aber ist treu, dass unser WortWort an euch nicht Ja und Nein ist.18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.4
19 Denn der SohnSohn GottesGottes, JesusJesus ChristusChristus, der unter euch durch uns gepredigt worden ist, durch mich und Silvanus7 und TimotheusTimotheus, wurde nicht Ja und Nein, sondern es ist Ja in ihm.19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
20 Denn so viele der Verheißungen GottesGottes sind, in ihm ist das Ja und in ihm das AmenAmen8, GottGott zur HerrlichkeitHerrlichkeit durch uns. 20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
21 Der uns aber mit euch befestigtbefestigt in ChristusChristus9 und uns gesalbt hat, ist GottGott,21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22 der uns auch versiegelt hat und hat das UnterpfandUnterpfand des GeistesGeistes in unsere Herzen gegeben.22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
23 Ich aber rufe GottGott zum Zeugen an auf meine SeeleSeele, dass ich, um euer zu schonen, noch nicht nach KorinthKorinth gekommen bin. 23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.
24 Nicht, dass wir über euren Glauben herrschen, sondern wir sind Mitarbeiter an eurer FreudeFreude; denn ihr steht durch den Glauben.24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
