1 Und dies sind die NationenNationen, welche JehovaJehova bleiben ließ, um IsraelIsrael durch sie zu versuchen, alle, die nichts wußten von allen Kriegen KanaansKanaans -1 And these are the nations that Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, all that had not known all the wars of Canaan;
2 nur damit die GeschlechterGeschlechter der KinderKinder IsraelIsrael KenntnisKenntnis von denselben bekämen, um sie den Krieg zu lehren: nur die, welche vordem nichts von denselben gewußt hatten -:2 only that the generations of the children of Israel might know war by learning it, at the least those who before had known nothing thereof:
3 die fünf Fürsten1 der PhilisterPhilister und alle KanaaniterKanaaniter und ZidonierZidonier und HewiterHewiter, welche das GebirgeGebirge LibanonLibanon bewohnten, von dem BergeBerge Baal-HermonBaal-Hermon an, bis man nach HamathHamath kommt.3 five lord ships of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwell on mount Lebanon; from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.
4 Und sie dienten dazu2, IsraelIsrael durch sie zu versuchen, um zu wissen, ob sie den Geboten JehovasJehovas gehorchen würden, welche er ihren VäternVätern durch MoseMose geboten hatte.4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would obey the commandments of Jehovah, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
5 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael wohnten inmitten der KanaaniterKanaaniter, der HethiterHethiter und der AmoriterAmoriter und der PerisiterPerisiter und der HewiterHewiter und der JebusiterJebusiter;5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites: Hittites and Amorites and Perizzites and Hivites and Jebusites;
6 und sie nahmen sich deren Töchter zu Weibern und gaben ihre Töchter deren Söhnen, und dienten ihren GötternGöttern.6 and they took their daughters as wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
7 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael taten was böse war in den AugenAugen JehovasJehovas und vergaßen JehovasJehovas, ihres GottesGottes, und sie dienten den BaalimBaalim und den Ascheroth3.7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and forgot Jehovah their God, and served the Baals and the Asherahs.
8 Da entbrannte der ZornZorn JehovasJehovas wider IsraelIsrael, und er verkaufte sie in die Hand Kuschan-RischathaimsKuschan-Rischathaims, des Königs von Mesopotamien4; und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael dienten dem Kuschan-RischathaimKuschan-Rischathaim acht JahreJahre.8 And the anger of Jehovah was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
9 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael schrieen zu JehovaJehova; und JehovaJehova erweckte den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael einen Retter, der sie rettete: OthnielOthniel, den SohnSohn KenasKenas', den jüngeren BruderBruder KalebsKalebs.9 And the children of Israel cried to Jehovah; and Jehovah raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.
10 Und der GeistGeist JehovasJehovas kam über ihn, und er richtete IsraelIsrael; und er zog aus zum StreiteStreite, und JehovaJehova gab Kuschan-RischathaimKuschan-Rischathaim, den König von AramAram, in seine Hand, und seine Hand wurde stark wider Kuschan-RischathaimKuschan-Rischathaim.10 And the Spirit of Jehovah was upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and Jehovah gave Chushan-rishathaim king of Syria into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.
11 Und das Land hatte RuheRuhe vierzig JahreJahre. Und OthnielOthniel, der SohnSohn KenasKenas', starb.11 And the land had rest forty years; and Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
12 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael taten wiederum was böse war in den AugenAugen JehovasJehovas; und JehovaJehova stärkte EglonEglon, den König von MoabMoab, wider IsraelIsrael, weil sie taten was böse war in den AugenAugen JehovasJehovas.12 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they did evil in the sight of Jehovah.
13 Und er versammelte zu sich die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon und AmalekAmalek; und er zog hin und schlug IsraelIsrael, und sie nahmen die PalmenstadtPalmenstadt in Besitz.13 And he gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek and went and smote Israel, and they took possession of the city of palm-trees.
14 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael dienten EglonEglon, dem König von MoabMoab, achtzehn JahreJahre.14 And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
15 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael schrieen zu JehovaJehova; und JehovaJehova erweckte ihnen einen Retter, EhudEhud, den SohnSohn GerasGeras, einen Benjaminiter, einen MannMann, der links war. Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael sandten durch ihn ein Geschenk an EglonEglon, den König von MoabMoab.15 And the children of Israel cried to Jehovah, and Jehovah raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a man left-handed. And by him the children of Israel sent a gift to Eglon king of Moab.
16 Und EhudEhud machte sich ein SchwertSchwert, das zwei Schneiden hatte, eine ElleElle seine Länge; und er gürtete es unter seinen Rock5 an seine rechte Hüfte.16 And Ehud made him a sword having two edges, it was of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right hip.
17 Und er überreichte das Geschenk EglonEglon, dem König von MoabMoab. EglonEglon war aber ein sehr fetter MannMann.17 And he brought the gift to Eglon king of Moab; now Eglon was a very fat man.
18 Und es geschah, als er mit der Überreichung des GeschenkesGeschenkes fertig war, da geleitete er das Volk, welches das Geschenk getragen hatte.18 And it came to pass when he had ended offering the gift, he sent away the people that had borne the gift.
19 Er selbst aber kehrte um von den geschnitzten BildernBildern, die bei GilgalGilgal waren, und sprach: Ein geheimes WortWort habe ich an dich, o König! Und er sprach: Stille! Und alle, die bei ihm standen, gingen von ihm hinaus.19 But he turned from the graven images that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret word unto thee, O king. And he said, Be silent! And all that stood by him went out from him.
20 Und als EhudEhud zu ihm hereinkam, saß er in dem ObergemachObergemach der Kühlung, das für ihn allein war. Und EhudEhud sprach: Ein WortWort GottesGottes habe ich an dich. Und er stand auf vom Stuhle.20 And Ehud came to him; now he was sitting in the cool upper-chamber, which was for him alone. And Ehud said, I have a word from God unto thee. And he arose from the seat.
21 Da streckte EhudEhud seine linke Hand aus und nahm das SchwertSchwert von seiner rechten Hüfte und stieß es ihm in den Bauch;21 Then Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right hip, and thrust it into his belly;
22 und es drang sogar der GriffGriff hinein nach der Klinge, und das FettFett schloß sich um die Klinge; denn er zog das SchwertSchwert nicht aus seinem Bauche, und es fuhr hinaus zwischen den Beinen.22 and the haft also went in after the blade, and the fat closed upon the blade; for he did not draw the sword out of his belly, and it came out between the legs.
23 Und EhudEhud ging in die Säulenhalle hinaus und schloß die Tür6 des ObergemachsObergemachs hinter ihm zu und verriegelte sie.23 And Ehud went out into the portico, and shut the doors of the upper-chamber upon him, and bolted them.
24 Und als er hinausgegangen war, da kamen seine KnechteKnechte und sahen, und siehe, die TürTür des ObergemachsObergemachs war verriegelt. Und sie sprachen: Gewiß bedeckt er seine Füße in dem Gemach der Kühlung.24 And when he was gone out, the servants of the king came and saw, and behold, the doors of the upper-chamber were bolted. And they said, Surely he is covering his feet in the summer chamber.
25 Und sie warteten, bis sie sich schämten; aber siehe, er öffnete die TürTür des ObergemachsObergemachs nicht; da nahmen sie den SchlüsselSchlüssel und schlossen auf, und siehe, ihr HerrHerr lag tot am Boden. -25 And they waited till they were ashamed; and behold, he opened not the doors of the upper-chamber, and they took the key, and opened them , and behold, their lord lay dead on the earth.
26 EhudEhud aber war entronnen, während sie zögerten: er war über die geschnitzten BilderBilder hinausgelangt und entrann nach SeiraSeira.26 And Ehud had escaped while they lingered, and passed beyond the graven images, and escaped to Seirah.
27 Und es geschah, als er ankam, da stieß er in die Posaune auf dem Gebirge EphraimGebirge Ephraim; und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael zogen mit ihm von dem GebirgeGebirge hinab, und er vor ihnen her.27 And it came to pass when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them.
28 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Jaget mir nach, denn JehovaJehova hat eure Feinde, die Moabiter7, in eure Hand gegeben! Und sie zogen hinab, ihm nach, und nahmen den MoabiternMoabitern die FurtenFurten des JordanJordan8, und ließen niemand hinübergehen.28 And he said to them, Follow after me, for Jehovah has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan toward Moab, and suffered no one to pass over.
29 Und sie schlugen die MoabiterMoabiter zu selbiger ZeitZeit, bei zehntausend MannMann, lauter kräftige und streitbare9 Männer, und keiner entrann.29 And they slew the Moabites at that time, about ten thousand men, all fat, and all men of valour, and not a man escaped.
30 Und MoabMoab wurde an selbigem TageTage unter die Hand IsraelsIsraels gebeugt. Und das Land hatte RuheRuhe achtzig JahreJahre.30 And Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest eighty years.
31 Und nach ihm war SchamgarSchamgar, der SohnSohn AnathsAnaths; und er schlug die PhilisterPhilister, sechshundert MannMann, mit einem RinderstachelRinderstachel. Und auch er rettete IsraelIsrael.31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath; and he smote the Philistines, six hundred men, with an ox-goad. And he also delivered Israel.
