1 Und es geschah in jenen Tagen, als kein König in IsraelIsrael war, daß sich ein levitischer MannMann an der äußersten Seite des GebirgesGebirges EphraimEphraim aufhielt; und er nahm sich ein Kebsweib aus Bethlehem-Juda.1 And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that a certain Levite, sojourning on the further side of mount Ephraim, took him a concubine out of Bethlehem-Judah.
2 Und sein Kebsweib hurte neben ihm; und sie ging von ihm weg in das HausHaus ihres VatersVaters, nach Bethlehem-Juda, und war daselbst eine Zeitlang, vier MonateMonate.2 And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him to her father's house to Bethlehem-Judah, and was there some time, --four months.
3 Und ihr MannMann machte sich auf und ging ihr nach, um zu ihrem Herzen zu reden, sie zurückzubringen; und sein Knabe war mit ihm und ein Paar EselEsel. Und sie führte ihn in das HausHaus ihres VatersVaters; und als der VaterVater des jungen Weibes ihn sah, kam er ihm freudig entgegen.3 And her husband rose up and went after her, to speak kindly to her, to bring her again; and his servant was with him, and a couple of asses. And she brought him into her father's house; and when the father of the damsel saw him he rejoiced to meet him.
4 Und sein Schwiegervater, der VaterVater des jungen Weibes, hielt ihn zurück, und er blieb drei TageTage bei ihm; und sie aßen und tranken und übernachteten daselbst.4 And his father-in-law, the damsel's father, retained him, and he abode with him three days; and they ate and drank, and lodged there.
5 Und es geschah am vierten TageTage, da machten sie sich des MorgensMorgens früh auf, und er erhob sich, um fortzugehen. Da sprach der VaterVater des jungen Weibes zu seinem Eidam: Stärke dein HerzHerz mit einem Bissen BrotBrot, und danach möget ihr ziehen.5 And it came to pass on the fourth day, that they arose early in the morning, and he rose up to depart; and the damsel's father said to his son-in-law, Refresh thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards ye may go your way.
6 Und sie setzten sich und aßen und tranken beide miteinander. Und der VaterVater des jungen Weibes sprach zu dem ManneManne: Laß es dir doch gefallen und bleibe über NachtNacht und laß dein HerzHerz fröhlich sein!6 And they sat down, and ate and drank, both of them together. And the damsel's father said to the man, Be content, I pray thee, and pass the night, and let thy heart be glad.
7 Und als der MannMann sich erhob, um fortzugehen, da drang sein Schwiegervater in ihn, und er übernachtete wiederum daselbst.7 And the man rose up to depart, but his father-in-law urged him, and he lodged there again.
8 Und am fünften TageTage machte er sich des MorgensMorgens früh auf, um fortzugehen; da sprach der VaterVater des jungen Weibes: Stärke doch dein HerzHerz und verziehet, bis der TagTag sich neigt! Und so aßen sie beide miteinander.8 And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; but the damsel's father said, Refresh thy heart, I pray thee. And they lingered until the afternoon, and they did eat both of them.
9 Und der MannMann erhob sich, um fortzugehen, er und sein Kebsweib und sein Knabe. Aber sein Schwiegervater, der VaterVater des jungen Weibes, sprach zu ihm: Siehe doch, der TagTag nimmt ab, es will AbendAbend werden; übernachtet doch! Siehe, der TagTag sinkt, übernachte hier und laß dein HerzHerz fröhlich sein; und ihr machet euch morgen früh auf euren Weg, und du ziehst nach deinem ZelteZelte.9 And the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant; and his father-in-law, the damsel's father, said to him, Behold now, the day draws toward evening--I pray you stay all night; behold, the day is declining, lodge here, and let thy heart be merry; and to-morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go to thy tent.
10 Aber der MannMann wollte nicht übernachten, und er erhob sich und zog fort; und er kam bis vor JebusJebus, das ist JerusalemJerusalem, und mit ihm das Paar gesattelter EselEsel, und sein Kebsweib mit ihm.10 But the man would not tarry the night; and he rose up and departed, and came opposite to Jebus, that is, Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, and his concubine was with him.
11 Sie waren bei JebusJebus, und der TagTag war sehr herabgesunken, da sprach der Knabe zu seinem HerrnHerrn: Komm doch und laß uns in diese Stadt der JebusiterJebusiter einkehren und darin übernachten.11 They were near Jebus, and the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn aside into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.
12 Aber sein HerrHerr sprach zu ihm: Wir wollen nicht in eine Stadt der Fremden einkehren, die nicht von den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael sind, sondern wollen nach GibeaGibea hinübergehen.12 But his master said to him, We will not turn aside into the city of a stranger, which is not of the children of Israel, but we will pass on to Gibeah.
13 Und er sprach zu seinem Knaben: Komm, daß wir uns einem der Orte nähern und in GibeaGibea oder in RamaRama übernachten.13 And he said to his servant, Come and let us draw near to one of these places, and lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.
14 So zogen sie vorüber und gingen weiter, und die SonneSonne ging ihnen unter nahe bei GibeaGibea, das BenjaminBenjamin gehört.14 And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.
15 Und sie wandten sich dahin, daß sie hineinkämen, um in GibeaGibea zu übernachten. Und er kam hinein und setzte sich hin auf den Platz der Stadt; und niemand war, der sie ins HausHaus aufgenommen hätte, um zu übernachten.15 And they turned aside thither, to go in, to lodge in Gibeah. And he went in, and sat down in the open place of the city; and there was no one that received him into his house to pass the night.
16 Und siehe, ein alter MannMann kam von seiner Arbeit, vom Felde, am AbendAbend; und der MannMann war vom Gebirge EphraimGebirge Ephraim, und er hielt sich in GibeaGibea auf; die Leute des Ortes aber waren Benjaminiter.16 And behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even; and the man was of mount Ephraim, and he sojourned in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjaminites.
17 Und er erhob seine AugenAugen und sah den Wandersmann auf dem Platze der Stadt, und der alte MannMann sprach: Wohin gehst du? und woher kommst du?17 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the open place of the city; and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?
18 Und er sprach zu ihm: Wir reisen von Bethlehem-Juda nach der äußersten Seite des GebirgesGebirges EphraimEphraim; von dort bin ich her, und ich bin nach Bethlehem-Juda gegangen, und ich wandle mit dem HauseHause Jehovas1; und niemand ist, der mich in sein HausHaus aufnimmt.18 And he said to him, We are travelling from Bethlehem-Judah towards the further side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I; and I went to Bethlehem-Judah, and I have to do with the house of Jehovah; and there is no man that receives me into his house.
19 Und wir haben sowohl StrohStroh als auch Futter für unsere EselEsel, und auch BrotBrot und WeinWein habe ich für mich und für deine MagdMagd und für den Knaben, der mit deinen Knechten ist; es mangelt an nichts.19 And we have both straw and provender for our asses; and I have bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man with thy servants: there is no lack of anything.
20 Da sprach der alte MannMann: FriedeFriede dir! Nur liege all dein Bedarf mir ob; doch auf dem Platze übernachte nicht.20 Then the old man said, Peace be with thee; only let all thy wants lie on me; but lodge not in the street.
21 Und er führte ihn in sein HausHaus und gab den Eseln Futter. Und sie wuschen ihre Füße und aßen und tranken.21 And he brought him into his house, and gave the asses provender; and they washed their feet, and ate and drank.
22 Sie ließen ihr HerzHerz guter Dinge sein, siehe, da umringten die Männer der Stadt, Männer, welche Söhne Belials2 waren, das HausHaus, schlugen an die TürTür und sprachen zu dem alten ManneManne, dem HerrnHerrn des Hauses, und sagten: Führe den MannMann, der in dein HausHaus gekommen ist, heraus, daß wir ihn erkennen!22 They were making their hearts merry, when behold, the men of the city, sons of Belial, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thy house, that we may know him.
23 Und der MannMann, der HerrHerr des Hauses, ging zu ihnen hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Nicht doch, meine BrüderBrüder, tut doch nicht übel; nachdem dieser MannMann in mein HausHaus gekommen ist, begehet nicht diese Schandtat!23 And the man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, No, my brethren, I pray you, do not wickedly; seeing that this man is come into my house, do not this villany.
24 Siehe, meine TochterTochter, die JungfrauJungfrau, und sein Kebsweib, lasset mich doch sie herausführen; und schwächet sie und tut mit ihnen was gut ist in euren AugenAugen; aber an diesem ManneManne begehet nicht diese Schandtat!24 Behold, my daughter, who is a virgin, and his concubine; let me bring them out, and humble ye them, and do to them as is good in your sight; but to this man do not so vile a thing.
25 Aber die Männer wollten nicht auf ihn hören. Da ergriff der MannMann sein Kebsweib und führte sie zu ihnen hinaus auf die Straße; und sie erkannten sie und mißhandelten sie die ganze NachtNacht bis an den MorgenMorgen; und sie ließen sie gehen, als die MorgenröteMorgenröte aufging.25 But the men would not hearken to him; and the man took his concubine, and brought her forth to them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning; and let her go when the morning-dawn arose.
26 Und das Weib kam beim Anbruch des MorgensMorgens und fiel nieder am Eingang des Hauses des MannesMannes, woselbst ihr HerrHerr war, und lag dort, bis es hell wurde.26 And the woman came at the dawning of the day, and fell down at the entrance of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.
27 Und als ihr HerrHerr am MorgenMorgen aufstand und die TürTür des Hauses öffnete und hinaustrat, um seines Weges zu ziehen: siehe, da lag das Weib, sein Kebsweib, an dem Eingang des Hauses, und ihre Hände auf der Schwelle.27 And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the door of the house, and went out to go his way, and behold, there lay the woman his concubine at the entrance of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.
28 Und er sprach zu ihr: Stehe auf und laß uns gehen! Aber niemand antwortete. Da nahm er sie auf den EselEsel, und der MannMann machte sich auf und zog an seinen Ort.28 And he said to her, Up, and let us go; but no one answered. And he took her upon the ass; and the man rose up, and went to his place.
29 Und als er in sein HausHaus gekommen war, nahm er sein3 Messer und ergriff sein Kebsweib und zerstückte sie, nach ihren Gebeinen, in zwölf Stücke; und er sandte sie in alle Grenzen IsraelsIsraels.29 And when he was come into his house, he took the knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, according to her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the borders of Israel.
30 Und es geschah, ein jeder, der es sah, sprach: Solches ist nicht geschehen noch gesehen worden von dem TageTage an, da die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael aus dem Lande Ägypten heraufgezogen sind, bis auf diesen TagTag. Bedenket euch darüber, beratet und redet!30 And it came to pass that every one that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came out of Egypt to this day. Think it over, advise, and speak.
