1 Und JephthaJephtha1, der GileaditerGileaditer, war ein tapferer HeldHeld; er war aber der SohnSohn einer HureHure, und GileadGilead hatte JephthaJephtha gezeugtgezeugt.1 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of a harlot; and Gilead had begotten Jephthah.
2 Und auch das Weib GileadsGileads gebar ihm Söhne; und als die Söhne des Weibes groß wurden, da vertrieben sie JephthaJephtha und sprachen zu ihm: Du sollst nicht erben im HauseHause unseres VatersVaters, denn du bist der SohnSohn eines anderen Weibes.2 And Gilead's wife bore him sons; and when his wife's sons were grown, they expelled Jephthah, and said to him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of another woman.
3 Und JephthaJephtha floh vor seinen BrüdernBrüdern und wohnte im Lande TobTob. Und es sammelten sich zu JephthaJephtha lose Leute und zogen mit ihm aus.3 Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob. And vain men were gathered to Jephthah, and they made expeditions with him.
4 Und es geschah nach einiger ZeitZeit, da stritten die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon mit IsraelIsrael.4 And it came to pass after some time, that the children of Ammon fought with Israel.
5 Und es geschah, als die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon mit IsraelIsrael stritten, da gingen die Ältesten von GileadGilead hin, um JephthaJephtha aus dem Lande TobTob zu holen.5 And when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob.
6 Und sie sprachen zu JephthaJephtha: Komm und sei unser Anführer, daß wir wider die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon streiten!6 And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight against the children of Ammon.
7 Und JephthaJephtha sprach zu den Ältesten von GileadGilead: Seid ihr es nicht, die mich gehaßt und mich aus dem HauseHause meines VatersVaters vertrieben haben? Und warum kommet ihr jetzt zu mir, da ihr in BedrängnisBedrängnis seid?7 And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come to me now when ye are in trouble?
8 Und die Ältesten von GileadGilead sprachen zu JephthaJephtha: Darum sind wir jetzt zu dir zurückgekehrt, daß du mit uns ziehest und wider die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon streitest; und du sollst uns zum HaupteHaupte sein, allen Bewohnern GileadsGileads.8 And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Therefore we have returned to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be head over all of us the inhabitants of Gilead.
9 Und JephthaJephtha sprach zu den Ältesten von GileadGilead: Wenn ihr mich zurückholet, um wider die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon zu streiten, und JehovaJehova sie vor mir dahingibt, werde ich euch dann wirklich zum HaupteHaupte sein?9 And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If ye take me back to fight against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah give them up before me, shall I be your head?
10 Und die Ältesten von GileadGilead sprachen zu JephthaJephtha: JehovaJehova sei Zeuge2 zwischen uns, wenn wir nicht also tun, wie du geredet hast!10 And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Jehovah be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words!
11 Da ging JephthaJephtha mit den Ältesten von GileadGilead, und das Volk setzte ihn zum HaupteHaupte und zum Anführer über sich. Und JephthaJephtha redete alle seine WorteWorte vor JehovaJehova zu MizpaMizpa.11 Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them; and Jephthah uttered all his words before Jehovah in Mizpah.
12 Und JephthaJephtha sandte Boten an den König der Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon und ließ ihm sagen: Was haben wir miteinander zu schaffen, daß du gegen mich gekommen bist, mein Land zu bekriegen?12 And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight against my land?
13 Und der König der Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon sprach zu den Boten JephthasJephthas: Weil IsraelIsrael mein Land genommen hat, als es aus Ägypten heraufzog, vom ArnonArnon bis an den JabbokJabbok und bis an den JordanJordan; und nun gib die Länder3 in Frieden zurück.13 And the king of the children of Ammon said to the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even unto the Jabbok and unto the Jordan; and now restore it peaceably.
14 Da sandte JephthaJephtha abermals Boten an den König der Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon14 And Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon,
15 und ließ ihm sagen: So spricht JephthaJephtha: IsraelIsrael hat nicht das Land MoabsMoabs und das Land der Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon genommen;15 and said to him, Thus saith Jephthah: Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon.
16 sondern als sie aus Ägypten heraufzogen, da wanderte IsraelIsrael durch die WüsteWüste bis zum SchilfmeereSchilfmeere, und es kam nach KadesKades;16 But when they came up from Egypt, then Israel walked through the wilderness as far as the Red sea, and came to Kadesh.
17 und IsraelIsrael sandte Boten an den König von EdomEdom und ließ ihm sagen: Laß mich doch durch dein Land ziehen! Aber der König von EdomEdom gab kein Gehör. Und auch an den König von MoabMoab sandte es; aber er wollte nicht. So blieb IsraelIsrael in KadesKades.17 And Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land; but the king of Edom would not hearken. And they also sent to the king of Moab; and he would not. And Israel abode in Kadesh.
18 Und es wanderte durch die WüsteWüste und umging das Land EdomEdom und das Land MoabMoab und kam von SonnenaufgangSonnenaufgang her zum Lande MoabMoab; und sie lagerten sich jenseit des ArnonArnon und kamen nicht in das Gebiet MoabsMoabs, denn der ArnonArnon ist die Grenze MoabsMoabs.18 And they walked through the wilderness, and went round the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and came by the east of the land of Moab, and encamped beyond the Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab, for the Arnon is the border of Moab.
19 Und IsraelIsrael sandte Boten an SihonSihon, den König der AmoriterAmoriter, den König von HesbonHesbon, und IsraelIsrael ließ ihm sagen: Laß uns doch durch dein Land ziehen bis an meinen Ort!19 And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon, and Israel said to him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land unto my place.
20 Aber SihonSihon traute IsraelIsrael nicht, es durch sein Gebiet ziehen zu lassen; und SihonSihon versammelte all sein Volk, und sie lagerten sich zu JahzaJahza; und er stritt wider IsraelIsrael.20 But Sihon trusted not Israel, to let him pass through his border, and Sihon gathered all his people, and they encamped in Jahzah; and he fought with Israel.
21 Und JehovaJehova, der GottGott IsraelsIsraels, gab SihonSihon und all sein Volk in die Hand IsraelsIsraels, und sie schlugen sie. So nahm IsraelIsrael das ganze Land der AmoriterAmoriter, die jenes Land bewohnten, in Besitz:21 And Jehovah the God of Israel gave Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them; and Israel took possession of the whole land of the Amorites, who dwelt in that country.
22 sie nahmen das ganze Gebiet der AmoriterAmoriter in Besitz, vom ArnonArnon bis an den JabbokJabbok, und von der WüsteWüste bis an den JordanJordan.22 And they possessed all the borders of the Amorites, from the Arnon unto the Jabbok, and from the wilderness unto the Jordan.
23 Und so hat nun JehovaJehova, der GottGott IsraelsIsraels, die AmoriterAmoriter vor seinem Volke IsraelIsrael ausgetrieben, und du willst uns4 austreiben?23 And now Jehovah the God of Israel has dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou take possession of it?
24 Nimmst du nicht das in Besitz, was KamosKamos, dein GottGott, dir zum Besitz gibt? So auch alles was JehovaJehova, unser GottGott, vor uns ausgetrieben hat, das wollen wir besitzen.24 Dost not thou possess what Chemosh thy god puts thee in possession of? and whatever Jehovah our God has dispossessed before us, that will we possess.
25 Und nun, bist du etwa besser als BalakBalak, der SohnSohn ZipporsZippors, der König von MoabMoab? Hat er je mit IsraelIsrael gerechtet, oder je wider sie gestritten?25 And now art thou indeed better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive with Israel? did he ever fight against them?
26 Während IsraelIsrael in HesbonHesbon wohnte und in seinen Tochterstädten, und in AroerAroer und in seinen Tochterstädten, und in all den Städten, die längs des ArnonArnon liegen, dreihundert JahreJahre lang: warum habt ihr sie denn nicht in jener ZeitZeit entrissen?26 While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its dependent villages, and in Aroer and its dependent villages, and in all the cities that are along the banks of the Arnon, three hundred years--why did ye not recover them within that time?
27 Und nicht ich habe gegen dich gesündigt, sondern du tust übel an mir, wider mich zu streiten. JehovaJehova, der RichterRichter, richte heute zwischen den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael und den KindernKindern AmmonAmmon!27 So I have not sinned against thee, but it is thou who doest me wrong in making war against me. Jehovah, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon!
28 Aber der König der Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon hörte nicht auf die WorteWorte JephthasJephthas, die er ihm entboten hatte.28 But the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not to the words of Jephthah that he had sent him.
29 Da kam der GeistGeist JehovasJehovas über JephthaJephtha; und er zog durch GileadGilead und ManasseManasse, und zog nach MizpeMizpe in GileadGilead, und von MizpeMizpe in GileadGilead zog er gegen die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon.29 Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and passed to Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.
30 Und JephthaJephtha gelobte JehovaJehova ein GelübdeGelübde und sprach: Wenn du die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon wirklich in meine Hand gibst,30 And Jephthah vowed a vow to Jehovah, and said, If thou wilt without fail give the children of Ammon into my hand,
31 so soll das was zur TürTür meines Hauses herausgeht, mir entgegen, wenn ich in Frieden von den KindernKindern AmmonAmmon zurückkehre, es soll JehovaJehova gehören, und ich werde es als BrandopferBrandopfer opfern!31 then shall that which cometh forth from the door of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, be Jehovah's, and I will offer it up for a burnt-offering.
32 Und so zog JephthaJephtha gegen die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon, um wider sie zu streiten; und JehovaJehova gab sie in seine Hand.32 And Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Jehovah gave them into his hand.
33 Und er schlug sie von AroerAroer an, bis man nach MinnithMinnith kommt, zwanzig Städte, und bis nach Abel-Keramim, und er richtete eine sehr große Niederlage unter ihnen an5; und die Kinder AmmonKinder Ammon wurden gebeugt vor den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael.33 And he smote them from Aroer until thou come to Minnith, twenty cities, even unto Abel-Cheramim, with a very great slaughter; and the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34 Und als JephthaJephtha nach MizpaMizpa, nach seinem HauseHause kam, siehe, da trat seine TochterTochter heraus, ihm entgegen, mit Tamburinen und mit Reigen; und sie war nur die einzige; außer ihr hatte er weder SohnSohn noch TochterTochter.34 And Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house, and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambours and with dances; and she was an only child: besides her he had neither son nor daughter.
35 Und es geschah, als er sie sah, da zerriß er seine KleiderKleider und sprach: Ach, meine TochterTochter! tief beugst du mich nieder; und du, du bist unter denen, die mich in TrübsalTrübsal bringen! denn ich habe meinen Mund gegen JehovaJehova aufgetan und kann nicht zurücktreten!35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his garments, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me; for I have opened my mouth to Jehovah, and I cannot go back.
36 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Mein VaterVater, hast du deinen Mund gegen JehovaJehova aufgetan, so tue mir, wie es aus deinem Munde hervorgegangen ist, nachdem JehovaJehova dir Rache verschafft hat an deinen Feinden, den KindernKindern AmmonAmmon.36 And she said to him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth to Jehovah, do to me according to that which has proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as Jehovah has taken vengeance for thee upon thine enemies, upon the children of Ammon.
37 Und sie sprach zu ihrem VaterVater: Es geschehe mir diese Sache: Laß zwei MonateMonate von mir ab, daß ich hingehe und auf die BergeBerge hinabsteige6 und meine JungfrauschaftJungfrauschaft beweine, ich und meine Freundinnen.37 And she said to her father, Let this thing be done for me: leave me alone two months, that I may go and descend to the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.
38 Und er sprach: Gehe hin. Und er entließ sie auf zwei MonateMonate. Und sie ging hin, sie und ihre Freundinnen, und beweinte ihre JungfrauschaftJungfrauschaft auf den Bergen.38 And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months. And she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
39 Und es geschah am Ende von zwei Monaten, da kehrte sie zu ihrem VaterVater zurück. Und er vollzog an ihr das GelübdeGelübde, das er gelobt hatte. Sie hatte aber keinen MannMann erkannt. Und es wurde zum Gebrauch in IsraelIsrael:39 And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, and he performed on her the vow that he had vowed; and she had known no man. And it became a fixed custom in Israel,
40 Von JahrJahr zu JahrJahr gehen die Töchter IsraelsIsraels hin, um die TochterTochter JephthasJephthas, des GileaditersGileaditers, zu preisen vier TageTage im JahreJahre.40 that from year to year the daughters of Israel go to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in the year.
