3 Und er kam in die ganze Umgegend des JordanJordan und predigte die TaufeTaufe der BußeBuße zur VergebungVergebung der Sünden;3 And he came into all the district round the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins,
4 wie geschrieben steht im BucheBuche der WorteWorte JesaiasJesaias', des ProphetenPropheten: „Stimme eines Rufenden in der WüsteWüste: Bereitet den Weg des HerrnHerrn, machet gerade seine Steige!4 as it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet: Voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
5 Jedes TalTal wird ausgefüllt und jeder BergBerg und Hügel erniedrigt werden, und das Krumme wird zum geraden Wege und die höckerichten zu ebenen Wegen werden;5 Every gorge shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked places shall become a straight path , and the rough places smooth ways,
6 und alles FleischFleisch wird das HeilHeil GottesGottes sehen“.16 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
7 Er sprach nun zu den Volksmengen, die hinausgingen, um von ihm getauft zu werden: Otternbrut! wer hat euch gewiesen, dem kommenden ZornZorn zu entfliehen?7 He said therefore to the crowds which went out to be baptised by him, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Bringet nun der BußeBuße würdige Früchte; und beginnet nicht bei euch selbst zu sagen: Wir haben AbrahamAbraham zum VaterVater; denn ich sage euch, daß GottGott dem AbrahamAbraham aus diesen Steinen KinderKinder zu erwecken vermag.8 Produce therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say in yourselves, We have Abraham for our father, for I say unto you that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
9 Schon ist aber auch die AxtAxt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt; jeder Baum nun, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins FeuerFeuer geworfen.9 And already also the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.
10 Und die Volksmengen fragten ihn und sprachen: Was sollen wir denn tun?10 And the crowds asked him saying, What should we do then?
11 Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Wer zwei Leibröcke hat, teile dem mit, der keinen hat; und wer Speise hat, tue gleicherweise.11 And he answering says to them, He that has two body-coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.
12 Es kamen aber auch ZöllnerZöllner, um getauft zu werden; und sie sprachen zu ihm: LehrerLehrer, was sollen wir tun?12 And tax-gatherers came also to be baptised, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do?
13 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Fordert nicht mehr, als euch bestimmt ist.13 And he said to them, Take no more money than what is appointed to you.
14 Es fragten ihn aber auch Kriegsleute und sprachen: Und wir, was sollen wir tun? Und er sprach zu ihnen: Tut niemand Gewalt2, und klaget niemand fälschlich an, und begnüget euch mit eurem Solde.14 And persons engaged in military service also asked him saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Oppress no one, nor accuse falsely, and be satisfied with your pay.
15 Als aber das Volk in Erwartung war, und alle in ihren Herzen wegen JohannesJohannes überlegten, ob er nicht etwa der ChristusChristus sei,15 But as the people were in expectation, and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John whether he might be the Christ,
16 antwortete JohannesJohannes allen und sprach: Ich zwar taufe euch mit Wasser; es kommt aber, der stärker ist als ich, dessen ich nicht würdig3 bin, ihm den Riemen seiner SandalenSandalen zu lösen; er wird euch mit4 Heiligem GeisteGeiste und FeuerFeuer taufen;16 John answered all, saying, I indeed baptise you with water, but the mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to unloose; he shall baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire;
17 dessen WorfschaufelWorfschaufel in seiner Hand ist, und er wird seine Tenne durch und durch reinigen und den WeizenWeizen in seine ScheuneScheune sammeln; die SpreuSpreu aber wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem FeuerFeuer.17 whose winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18 Indem er nun auch mit vielem anderen ermahnte, verkündigte er dem Volke gute Botschaft.18 Exhorting then many other things also he announced his glad tidings to the people.
19 HerodesHerodes aber, der VierfürstVierfürst, weil er wegen der HerodiasHerodias, des Weibes seines BrudersBruders, und wegen alles Bösen, das HerodesHerodes getan hatte, von ihm gestraft wurde,19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him as to Herodias, the wife of his brother, and as to all the wicked things which Herod had done,
20 fügte allem auch dies hinzu, daß er JohannesJohannes ins GefängnisGefängnis einschloß.20 added this also to all the rest , that he shut up John in prison.
21 Es geschah aber, als das ganze Volk getauft wurde, und JesusJesus getauft war und betetebetete, daß der HimmelHimmel aufgetan wurde,21 And it came to pass, all the people having been baptised, and Jesus having been baptised and praying, that the heaven was opened,
22 und der HeiligeHeilige GeistGeist in leiblicher GestaltGestalt, wie eine TaubeTaube, auf ihn herabstieg, und eine Stimme aus dem HimmelHimmel kam: Du bist mein geliebter SohnSohn, an5 dir habe ich Wohlgefallen gefunden.22 and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove upon him; and a voice came out of heaven, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.
