1 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu JosuaJosua: Fürchte dich nicht und erschrick nicht! Nimm alles Kriegsvolk mit dir und mache dich auf, ziehe hinauf nach AiAi. Siehe, ich habe den König von AiAi und sein Volk und seine Stadt und sein Land in deine Hand gegeben.1 And Jehovah said to Joshua, Fear not, neither be dismayed. Take with thee all the people of war, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land.
2 Und du sollst an AiAi und an seinem König tun, so wie du an JerichoJericho und an seinem König getan hast; jedoch seine BeuteBeute und sein ViehVieh dürft ihr für euch plündern. Lege dir einen HinterhaltHinterhalt gegen die Stadt, in ihren Rücken.2 And thou shalt do to Ai and to its king as thou didst to Jericho and to its king; only, the spoil thereof and the cattle thereof shall ye take as prey for yourselves. Set an ambush against the city behind it.
3 Da machte sich JosuaJosua mit allem Kriegsvolk auf, um nach AiAi hinaufzuziehen. Und JosuaJosua wählte dreißigtausend MannMann aus, streitbare Männer, und sandte sie ab bei der NachtNacht.3 And Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose thirty thousand valiant men, and sent them away by night.
4 Und er gebot ihnen und sprach: Sehet, ihr sollt den HinterhaltHinterhalt bilden gegen die Stadt, im Rücken der Stadt; entfernet euch nicht allzuweit von der Stadt, sondern seid alle bereit.4 And he commanded them, saying, See, ye shall be in ambush against the city, behind the city: go not very far from the city, and be all of you ready.
5 Und ich und alles Volk, das bei mir ist, wir wollen uns der Stadt nähern; und es soll geschehen, wenn sie herauskommen, uns entgegen, wie das erste Mal, so wollen wir vor ihnen fliehen.5 And I and all the people that are with me will approach to the city; and it shall come to pass when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
6 Und sie werden herausziehen hinter uns her, bis wir sie von der Stadt abgerissen haben; denn sie werden sagen: Sie fliehen vor uns wie das erste Mal! und wir wollen vor ihnen fliehen.6 And they will come out after us till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first; and we will flee before them.
7 Dann sollt ihr euch aus dem HinterhaltHinterhalt aufmachen und die Stadt in Besitz nehmen; und JehovaJehova, euer GottGott, wird sie in eure Hand geben.7 And ye shall rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city; and Jehovah your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 Und es soll geschehen, wenn ihr die Stadt eingenommen habt, so sollt ihr die Stadt mit FeuerFeuer anzünden; nach dem WorteWorte JehovasJehovas sollt ihr tun. Sehet, ich habe es euch geboten. -8 And it shall be when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire; according to the word of Jehovah shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
9 Und JosuaJosua sandte sie ab, und sie zogen in den HinterhaltHinterhalt und hielten zwischen BethelBethel und AiAi, westlich von AiAi. Und JosuaJosua brachte jene NachtNacht in der Mitte des Volkes zu.9 And Joshua sent them forth; and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai. And Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10 Und JosuaJosua machte sich des MorgensMorgens früh auf und musterte das Volk; und er zog hinauf, er und die Ältesten von IsraelIsrael, vor dem Volke her nach AiAi.10 And Joshua rose early in the morning, and inspected the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
11 Und alles Kriegsvolk, das bei ihm war, zog hinauf und rückte heran, und sie kamen der Stadt gegenüber; und sie lagerten sich nördlich von AiAi, und das TalTal war zwischen ihm und AiAi.11 And all the people of war that were with him went up, and drew near, and came before the city; and they encamped on the north of Ai; and the valley was between them and Ai.
12 Er hatte aber bei fünftausend MannMann genommen und sie als HinterhaltHinterhalt zwischen BethelBethel und AiAi gelegt, westlich von der Stadt.12 Now he had taken about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city.
13 Und so stellten sie das Volk auf, das ganze LagerLager, das nördlich von der Stadt war, und dessen HinterhaltHinterhalt westlich von der Stadt; und JosuaJosua zog in selbiger NachtNacht mitten in das TalTal.13 And when they had set the people, the whole camp on the north of the city, and their ambush on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 Und es geschah, als der König von AiAi es sah, da eilten die Männer der Stadt und machten sich früh auf und zogen hinaus, IsraelIsrael entgegen zum StreitStreit, er und all sein Volk, an den bestimmten Ort, vor1 der Ebene2. Er wußte aber nicht, daß ihm im Rücken der Stadt ein HinterhaltHinterhalt gelegt war.14 And it came to pass when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hasted and rose early, and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the appointed place before the plain. But he knew not that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
15 Und JosuaJosua und ganz IsraelIsrael ließen sich vor ihnen schlagen und flohen des Weges zur WüsteWüste.15 And Joshua and all Israel let themselves be beaten before them; and they fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 Da wurde das ganze Volk, das in der Stadt war, zusammengerufen, um ihnen nachzujagen; und sie jagten JosuaJosua nach und wurden von der Stadt abgerissen.16 And all the people that were in the city were called together to pursue after them; and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 Und es blieb kein MannMann in AiAi und BethelBethel übrig, der nicht hinter IsraelIsrael her ausgezogen wäre; und sie ließen die Stadt offen und jagten IsraelIsrael nach.17 And not a man remained in Ai and Bethel that went not out after Israel; and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
18 Da sprach JehovaJehova zu JosuaJosua: Strecke den Spieß, der in deiner Hand ist, gegen AiAi aus; denn ich will es in deine Hand geben. Und JosuaJosua streckte den Spieß, der in seiner Hand war, gegen die Stadt aus.18 And Jehovah said to Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thy hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that he had in his hand toward the city.
19 Und der HinterhaltHinterhalt machte sich eilends von seinem Orte auf und lief, als er seine Hand ausstreckte, und sie kamen in die Stadt und nahmen sie ein; und sie eilten und zündeten die Stadt mit FeuerFeuer an.19 And the ambush arose quickly from their place, and they ran when he stretched out his hand, and came into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.
20 Und die Männer von AiAi wandten sich um und sahen, und siehe, der Rauch der Stadt stieg gen HimmelHimmel empor; und sie hatten keine KraftKraft, dahin noch dorthin zu fliehen. Denn das Volk, das nach der WüsteWüste hin geflohen war, wandte sich um gegen die Nachjagenden.20 And the men of Ai turned and saw, and behold, the smoke of the city went up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way; and the people that fled to the wilderness turned upon the pursuers.
21 Denn als JosuaJosua und ganz IsraelIsrael sahen, daß der HinterhaltHinterhalt die Stadt eingenommen hatte, und daß der Rauch der Stadt emporstieg, da kehrten sie um und schlugen die Männer von AiAi.21 When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city went up, they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.
22 Jene aber zogen aus der Stadt ihnen entgegen, so daß sie mitten zwischen IsraelIsrael waren, die einen von hierher und die anderen von dorther. Und sie schlugen sie, bis ihnen kein Entronnener oder Entkommener übrigblieb.22 And the others went out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side; and they smote them, until they let none of them escape or flee away.
23 Und den König von AiAi griffen sie lebendig und brachten ihn zu JosuaJosua.23 And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 Und es geschah, als IsraelIsrael das Würgen aller Bewohner von AiAi auf dem Felde, in der WüsteWüste, wo sie ihnen nachgejagt waren, beendigt hatte, und sie alle durch die Schärfe des SchwertesSchwertes gefallen, bis sie aufgerieben waren, da kehrte ganz IsraelIsrael um nach AiAi, und sie schlugen es mit der Schärfe des SchwertesSchwertes.24 And it came to pass when Israel had ended slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they had chased them, and they had all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all Israel returned to Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25 Und alle an selbigem TageTage Gefallenen, sowohl Männer als Weiber, waren zwölftausend, alle Leute von AiAi.25 And so it was, that all who fell that day, men as well as women, were twelve thousand, all the people of Ai.
26 Und JosuaJosua zog seine Hand, die er mit dem Spieße ausgestreckt hatte, nicht zurück, bis man alle Bewohner von AiAi vertilgt3 hatte.26 And Joshua did not draw back his hand, which he had stretched out with the javelin, until they had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Nur das ViehVieh und die BeuteBeute jener Stadt plünderte IsraelIsrael für sich, nach dem WorteWorte JehovasJehovas, das er dem JosuaJosua geboten hatte.27 Only, the cattle and the spoil of the city Israel took as prey to themselves, according to the word of Jehovah which he had commanded Joshua.
28 Und JosuaJosua verbrannte AiAi und machte es zu einem ewigen Trümmerhaufen, bis auf diesen TagTag.28 And Joshua burned Ai, and made it an everlasting heap of desolation to this day.
29 Und den König von AiAi ließ er an einen Baum4 hängen bis zur Abendzeit5; und beim Untergang der SonneUntergang der Sonne gebot JosuaJosua, und sie nahmen seinen Leichnam von dem Baume herab und warfen ihn an den Eingang des Stadttores und errichteten einen großen Steinhaufen über ihm, der bis auf diesen TagTag da ist.29 And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until the evening; and at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded, and they took his carcase down from the tree, and threw it down at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised upon it a great heap of stones, which remains to this day.
30 Damals baute JosuaJosua dem JehovaJehova, dem GottGott IsraelsIsraels, einen AltarAltar auf dem BergeBerge EbalEbal,30 Then Joshua built an altar to Jehovah the God of Israel, in mount Ebal,
31 so wie MoseMose, der KnechtKnecht JehovasJehovas, den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael geboten hatte, wie im BucheBuche des GesetzesGesetzes MosesMoses geschrieben ist, einen AltarAltar von ganzen Steinen, über die man kein EisenEisen geschwungen hatte. Und sie opferten darauf dem JehovaJehova BrandopferBrandopfer und schlachteten FriedensopferFriedensopfer.31 as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which iron had not been lifted up. And they offered up burnt-offerings on it to Jehovah, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
32 Und er schrieb daselbst auf die SteineSteine eine Abschrift des GesetzesGesetzes MosesMoses, welches er vor den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael geschrieben hatte.32 And he wrote there on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written before the children of Israel.
33 Und ganz IsraelIsrael und seine Ältesten und VorsteherVorsteher und seine RichterRichter standen an dieser und an jener Seite der LadeLade, den PriesternPriestern, den LevitenLeviten, gegenüber, welche die LadeLade des BundesBundes JehovasJehovas trugen, der FremdlingFremdling wie der Eingeborene, die eine Hälfte gegen den Berg GerisimBerg Gerisim hin und die andere Hälfte gegen den Berg EbalBerg Ebal hin, wie MoseMose, der KnechtKnecht JehovasJehovas, im AnfangAnfang geboten hatte, das Volk IsraelIsrael zu segnen6.33 And all Israel, and their elders, and their officers and judges, stood on this side and on that side of the ark before the priests the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the stranger as the home-born Israelite ; half of them toward mount Gerizim, and the other half of them toward mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded, that they should bless the people of Israel, in the beginning.
34 Und danach las er alle WorteWorte des GesetzesGesetzes, den Segen und den FluchFluch, nach allem, was im BucheBuche des GesetzesGesetzes geschrieben ist.34 And afterwards he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 Es war kein WortWort von allem was MoseMose geboten hatte, das JosuaJosua nicht der ganzen VersammlungVersammlung IsraelsIsraels vorlas, samt den Weibern und den KindernKindern und dem FremdlingFremdling, der in ihrer Mitte wandelte.35 There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua read not before the whole congregation of Israel, and the women, and the children, and the strangers that lived among them.
