1 Und das WortWort JehovasJehovas geschah zum zweiten Male zu JonaJona also:1 And the word of Jehovah came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
2 Mache dich auf, geh nach NiniveNinive, der großen Stadt, und rufe ihr die Botschaft aus, die ich dir sagen werde.2 Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I shall bid thee.
3 Da machte sich JonaJona auf und ging nach NiniveNinive, nach dem WorteWorte JehovasJehovas. NiniveNinive war aber eine außerordentlich große Stadt1 von drei Tagereisen.3 And Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.
4 Und JonaJona begann in die Stadt hineinzugehen eine Tagereise weit, und er rief und sprach: Noch vierzig TageTage, so ist NiniveNinive umgekehrt!4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!
5 Und die Leute von NiniveNinive glaubten GottGott; und sie riefen ein FastenFasten aus und kleideten sich in SacktuchSacktuch, von ihrem Größten bis zu ihrem Kleinsten.5 And the men of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 Und das Wort2 gelangte an den König von NiniveNinive; und er stand von seinem ThroneThrone auf und legte seinen MantelMantel ab, und hüllte sich in SacktuchSacktuch und setzte sich in die AscheAsche.6 And the word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and laid his robe from him, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 Und er ließ in NiniveNinive, auf Befehl des Königs und seiner Großen, ausrufen und sagen: Menschen und ViehVieh, RinderRinder und Kleinvieh sollen gar nichts kosten, sie sollen nicht weiden und kein Wasser trinken;7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything: let them not feed, nor drink water;
8 und Menschen und ViehVieh sollen mit SacktuchSacktuch bedeckt sein und sollen heftig zu GottGott rufen; und sie sollen umkehren, ein jeder von seinem bösen Wege und von dem Unrecht, das in ihren Händen ist.8 and let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God; and let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Wer weiß? GottGott möchte sich wenden und es sich gereuen lassen, und umkehren von der Glut seines ZornesZornes, daß wir nicht umkommen.9 Who knoweth but that God will turn and repent, and will turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 Und GottGott sah ihre WerkeWerke, daß sie von ihrem bösen Wege umgekehrt waren; und GottGott ließ sich des Übels gereuen, wovon er geredet hatte, daß er es ihnen tun wolle, und tat es nicht.10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil that he had said he would do unto them, and he did it not.
