1 Nach diesem ging JesusJesus weg auf die andere Seite des Sees von GaliläaGaliläa oder von TiberiasTiberias;1 After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee, or of Tiberias,
2 und es folgte ihm eine große Volksmenge, weil sie die ZeichenZeichen sahen, die er an den Kranken tat.2 and a great crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he wrought upon the sick.
3 JesusJesus aber ging hinauf auf den BergBerg und setzte sich daselbst mit seinen JüngernJüngern.3 And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there sat with his disciples:
4 Es war aber das PassahPassah nahe, das Fest der Juden.4 but the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.
5 Als nun JesusJesus die AugenAugen aufhob und sah, daß eine große Volksmenge zu ihm kommt, spricht er zu PhilippusPhilippus: Woher sollen wir BroteBrote kaufen, auf daß diese essen?5 Jesus then, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great crowd is coming to him, says to Philip, Whence shall we buy loaves that these may eat?
6 Dies sagte er aber, ihn zu versuchen1; denn er selbst wußte, was er tun wollte.6 But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.
7 PhilippusPhilippus antwortete ihm: Für zweihundert DenareDenare BroteBrote reichen nicht für sie hin, auf daß ein jeder etwas weniges bekomme.7 Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little portion .
8 Einer von seinen JüngernJüngern, AndreasAndreas, der BruderBruder des Simon PetrusSimon Petrus, spricht zu ihm:8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,
9 Es ist ein kleiner Knabe hier, der fünf Gerstenbrote und zwei FischeFische hat; aber was ist dies unter so viele?9 There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?
10 JesusJesus [aber] sprach: Machet, daß die Leute sich lagern. Es war aber viel GrasGras an dem Orte. Es lagerten sich nun die Männer, an Zahl bei fünftausend.10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 JesusJesus aber nahm die BroteBrote, und als er gedankt hatte, teilte er sie denen aus, die da lagerten; gleicherweise auch von den FischenFischen, soviel sie wollten.11 And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed them to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.
12 Als sie aber gesättigt waren, spricht er zu seinen JüngernJüngern: Sammelt die übriggebliebenen Brocken, auf daß nichts umkomme.12 And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost.
13 Sie sammelten nun und füllten zwölf Handkörbe mit Brocken von den fünf Gerstenbroten, welche denen, die gegessen hatten, übrigblieben.13 They gathered them therefore together, and filled twelve hand-baskets full of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were over and above to those that had eaten.
14 Als nun die Leute das ZeichenZeichen sahen, das JesusJesus tat, sprachen sie: Dieser ist wahrhaftig der ProphetProphet, der in die WeltWelt kommen soll.14 The men therefore, having seen the sign which Jesus had done, said, This is truly the prophet which is coming into the world.
15 Da nun JesusJesus erkannte, daß sie kommen und ihn ergreifen wollten, auf daß sie ihn zum König machten, entwich er wieder auf den BergBerg, er selbst allein.15 Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make him king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.
16 Als es aber AbendAbend geworden war, gingen seine JüngerJünger hinab an den See;16 But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,
17 und sie stiegen in das SchiffSchiff und fuhren über den See nach KapernaumKapernaum. Und es war schon finster geworden, und JesusJesus war noch nicht zu ihnen gekommen;17 and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them,
18 und der See erhob sich, indem ein starker WindWind wehte.18 and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.
19 Als sie nun etwa fünfundzwanzig oder dreißig StadienStadien gerudert waren, sehen sie Jesum auf dem See wandeln und nahe an das SchiffSchiff herankommen, und sie fürchteten sich.19 Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.
20 Er aber spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin's, fürchtet euch nicht!20 But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.
21 Sie wollten ihn nun in das SchiffSchiff nehmen, und alsbald war das SchiffSchiff an dem Lande, zu welchem sie hinfuhren.21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.
22 Des folgenden TagesTages, als die Volksmenge, die jenseit des Sees stand, gesehen hatte, daß daselbst kein anderes Schifflein war, als nur jenes, in welches seine JüngerJünger gestiegen waren, und daß JesusJesus nicht mit seinen JüngernJüngern in das SchiffSchiff gestiegen, sondern seine JüngerJünger allein weggefahren waren,22 On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but that his disciples had gone away alone;
23 (es kamen aber andere Schifflein aus TiberiasTiberias nahe an den Ort, wo sie das BrotBrot gegessen, nachdem der HerrHerr gedankt hatte)23 (but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks;)
24 da nun die Volksmenge sah, daß JesusJesus nicht daselbst sei, noch seine JüngerJünger, stiegen sie in die SchiffeSchiffe und kamen nach KapernaumKapernaum und suchten Jesum.24 when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
25 Und als sie ihn jenseit des Sees gefunden hatten, sprachen sie zu ihm: RabbiRabbi, wann bist du hierhergekommen?25 And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?
26 JesusJesus antwortete ihnen und sprach: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ihr suchet mich, nicht weil ihr ZeichenZeichen gesehen, sondern weil ihr von den Broten gegessen habt und gesättigt worden seid.26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.
27 Wirket nicht für die Speise, die vergeht, sondern für die Speise, die da bleibt ins ewige LebenLeben, welche der Sohn des MenschenSohn des Menschen euch geben wird; denn diesen hat der VaterVater, GottGott, versiegelt.27 Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, even God.
28 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was sollen wir tun, auf daß wir die WerkeWerke GottesGottes wirken?28 They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?
29 JesusJesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Dies ist das Werk GottesGottes, daß ihr an den glaubet, den er gesandt hat.29 Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he has sent.
30 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Was tust du nun für ein ZeichenZeichen, auf daß wir sehen und dir glauben? was wirkst du?30 They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Unsere VäterVäter aßen das MannaManna in der WüsteWüste, wie geschrieben steht: „BrotBrot aus dem HimmelHimmel gab er ihnen zu essen“2.31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.
32 Da sprach JesusJesus zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Nicht MosesMoses hat euch das BrotBrot aus dem HimmelHimmel gegeben, sondern mein VaterVater gibt euch das wahrhaftige BrotBrot aus dem HimmelHimmel.32 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, It is not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
33 Denn das BrotBrot GottesGottes ist der, welcher aus dem HimmelHimmel herniederkommt und der WeltWelt das LebenLeben gibt.33 For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.
34 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: HerrHerr, gib uns allezeit dieses BrotBrot!34 They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread.
35 JesusJesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin das BrotBrot des LebensLebens: wer zu mir kommt, wird nicht hungern, und wer an mich glaubt, wird nimmermehr dürsten.35 And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.
36 Aber ich habe euch gesagt, daß ihr mich auch gesehen habt und nicht glaubet.36 But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe.
37 Alles was mir der VaterVater gibt, wird zu mir kommen, und wer zu mir kommt, den werde ich nicht hinausstoßen;37 All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.
38 denn ich bin vom HimmelHimmel herniedergekommen, nicht auf daß ich meinen Willen tue, sondern den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat.38 For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do my will, but the will of him that has sent me.
39 Dies aber ist der Wille dessen, der mich gesandt hat, daß ich von allem, was er mir gegeben hat, nichts verliere, sondern es auferwecke am letzten TageTage.39 And this is the will of him that has sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up in the last day.
40 Denn dies ist der Wille meines VatersVaters, daß jeder, der den SohnSohn sieht und an ihn glaubt, ewiges LebenLeben habe; und ich werde ihn auferwecken am letzten TageTage.40 For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son, and believes on him, should have life eternal; and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 Da murrten die Juden über ihn, weil er sagte: Ich bin das BrotBrot, das aus dem HimmelHimmel herniedergekommen ist;41 The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which has come down out of heaven.
42 und sie sprachen: Ist dieser nicht JesusJesus, der SohnSohn JosephsJosephs, dessen VaterVater und MutterMutter wir kennen? Wie sagt denn dieser: Ich bin aus dem HimmelHimmel herniedergekommen?42 And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then does he say, I am come down out of heaven?
43 Da antwortete JesusJesus und sprach zu ihnen: Murret nicht untereinander.43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 Niemand kann zu mir kommen, es sei denn daß der VaterVater, der mich gesandt hat, ihn ziehe; und ich werde ihn auferwecken am letzten TageTage.44 No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
45 Es steht in den ProphetenPropheten geschrieben: „Und sie werden alle von GottGott gelehrt sein“.3 Jeder, der von dem Vater4 gehört und gelernt hat, kommt zu mir.45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father himself , and has learned of him , comes to me;
46 Nicht daß jemand den VaterVater gesehen habe, außer dem, der von GottGott5 ist, dieser hat den VaterVater gesehen.46 not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.
47 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer [an mich] glaubt, hat ewiges LebenLeben.47 Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on me has life eternal.
48 Ich bin das BrotBrot des LebensLebens.48 I am the bread of life.
49 Eure VäterVäter haben das MannaManna in der WüsteWüste gegessen und sind gestorben.49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.
50 Dies ist das BrotBrot, das aus dem HimmelHimmel herniederkommt, auf daß man davon esse und nicht sterbe.50 This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.
51 Ich bin das lebendige BrotBrot, das aus dem HimmelHimmel herniedergekommen ist; wenn jemand von diesem BroteBrote ißt6, so wird er lebenleben in Ewigkeit. Das BrotBrot aber7, das ich geben werde, ist mein FleischFleisch, welches ich geben werde für das LebenLeben der WeltWelt.51 I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 Die Juden stritten nun untereinander und sagten: Wie kann dieser uns sein FleischFleisch zu essen geben?52 The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?
53 Da sprach JesusJesus zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es sei denn daß ihr das FleischFleisch des SohnesSohnes des Menschen esset und sein BlutBlut trinket8, so habt ihr kein LebenLeben in euch selbst.53 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves.
54 Wer mein FleischFleisch ißt und mein BlutBlut trinkt, hat ewiges LebenLeben, und ich werde ihn auferwecken am letzten TageTage;54 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:
55 denn mein FleischFleisch ist wahrhaftig Speise, und mein BlutBlut ist wahrhaftig Trank.55 for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink.
56 Wer mein FleischFleisch ißt und mein BlutBlut trinkt, bleibt in mir und ich in ihm.56 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.
57 Gleichwie der lebendige VaterVater mich gesandt hat und ich lebe des VatersVaters wegen9, so auch, wer mich ißt, der wird auch leben meinetwegen10.57 As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, he also who eats me shall live also on account of me.
58 Dies ist das BrotBrot, das aus dem HimmelHimmel herniedergekommen ist. Nicht wie die VäterVäter aßen und starben; wer dieses BrotBrot ißt, wird leben in Ewigkeit.58 This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever.
59 Dieses sprach er in der SynagogeSynagoge, lehrend zu KapernaumKapernaum.59 These things he said in the synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.
60 Viele nun von seinen JüngernJüngern, die es gehört hatten, sprachen: Diese Rede ist hart; wer kann sie hören?60 Many therefore of his disciples having heard it said, This word is hard; who can hear it?
61 Da aber JesusJesus bei sich selbst wußte11, daß seine JüngerJünger hierüber murrten, sprach er zu ihnen: Ärgert euch dieses?61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?
62 Wenn ihr nun den Sohn des MenschenSohn des Menschen dahin auffahren sehet, wo er zuvor war?62 If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before?
63 Der GeistGeist ist es, der lebendig macht; das FleischFleisch nützt nichts. Die WorteWorte, welche ich zu euch geredet habe, sind GeistGeist und sind LebenLeben;63 It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.
64 aber es sind etliche unter12 euch, die nicht glauben. Denn JesusJesus wußte von AnfangAnfang, welche es seien, die nicht glaubten, und wer es sei, der ihn überliefern würde.64 But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.
65 Und er sprach: Darum habe ich euch gesagt, daß niemand zu mir kommen kann, es sei ihm denn von dem VaterVater gegeben.65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father.
66 Von da an gingen viele seiner JüngerJünger zurück und wandelten nicht mehr mit ihm.66 From that time many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.
67 Da sprach JesusJesus zu den Zwölfen: Wollt ihr etwa auch weggehen?67 Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Simon PetrusSimon Petrus antwortete ihm: HerrHerr, zu wem sollen wir gehen? du hast WorteWorte ewigen LebensLebens;68 Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal;
69 und wir haben geglaubt und erkannt13, daß du der HeiligeHeilige GottesGottes bist.69 and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.
70 JesusJesus antwortete ihnen: Habe ich nicht euch, die Zwölfe, auserwählt? und von euch ist einer ein TeufelTeufel.70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you the twelve? and of you one is a devil.
71 Er sprach aber von JudasJudas, SimonsSimons SohnSohn, dem IskariotIskariot; denn dieser sollte ihn überliefern, er, der einer von den Zwölfen war.71 Now he spoke of Judas the son of Simon, Iscariote, for he it was who should deliver him up, being one of the twelve.
