1 Als nun der HerrHerr erkannte, daß die PharisäerPharisäer gehört hatten, daß JesusJesus mehr JüngerJünger mache und taufe als JohannesJohannes,1 When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus makes and baptises more disciples than John
2 (wiewohl JesusJesus selbst nicht taufte, sondern seine JüngerJünger)2 (however, Jesus himself did not baptise, but his disciples),
3 verließ er JudäaJudäa und zog wieder nach GaliläaGaliläa.3 he left Judaea and went away again unto Galilee.
4 Er mußte aber durch SamariaSamaria ziehen.4 And he must needs pass through Samaria.
5 Er kommt nun in eine Stadt SamariasSamarias, genannt SicharSichar, nahe bei dem Felde, welches JakobJakob seinem SohneSohne JosephJoseph gab.5 He comes therefore to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near to the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Es war aber daselbst eine QuelleQuelle JakobsJakobs. JesusJesus nun, ermüdet von der Reise, setzte sich also an die QuelleQuelle nieder. Es war um die sechste StundeStunde.6 Now a fountain of Jacob's was there; Jesus therefore, being wearied with the way he had come, sat just as he was at the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
7 Da kommt ein Weib aus SamariaSamaria, Wasser zu schöpfen. JesusJesus spricht zu ihr: Gib mir zu trinken.7 A woman comes out of Samaria to draw water. Jesus says to her, Give me to drink
8 (Denn seine JüngerJünger waren weggegangen in die Stadt, um Speise zu kaufen.)8 (for his disciples had gone away into the city that they might buy provisions).
9 Das samaritische Weib spricht nun zu ihm: Wie bittest du, der du ein JudeJude bist, von mir zu trinken, die ich ein samaritisches Weib bin? (Denn die Juden verkehren nicht mit den SamariternSamaritern.)9 The Samaritan woman therefore says to him, How dost thou, being a Jew, ask to drink of me who am a Samaritan woman? for Jews have no intercourse with Samaritans.
10 JesusJesus antwortete und sprach zu ihr: Wenn du die Gabe GottesGottes kenntest, und wer es ist, der zu dir spricht: Gib mir zu trinken, so würdest du ihn gebeten haben, und er hätte dir lebendiges Wasser gegeben.10 Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that says to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 Das Weib spricht zu ihm: HerrHerr, du hast kein Schöpfgefäß, und der BrunnenBrunnen ist tief; woher hast du denn das lebendige Wasser?11 The woman says to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou the living water?
12 Du bist doch nicht größer als unser VaterVater JakobJakob, der uns den BrunnenBrunnen gab, und er selbst trank aus demselben und seine Söhne und sein ViehVieh?12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?
13 JesusJesus antwortete und sprach zu ihr: Jeden, der von diesem Wasser trinkt, wird wiederum dürsten;13 Jesus answered and said to her, Every one who drinks of this water shall thirst again;
14 wer irgend aber von dem Wasser trinken wird, das ich ihm geben werde, den wird nicht dürsten in Ewigkeit; sondern das Wasser, das ich ihm geben werde, wird in ihm eine QuelleQuelle Wassers werden, das ins ewige LebenLeben quillt.14 but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for ever, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.
15 Das Weib spricht zu ihm: HerrHerr, gib mir dieses Wasser, damit mich nicht dürste und ich nicht hierher komme, um zu schöpfen.15 The woman says to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst nor come here to draw.
16 JesusJesus spricht zu ihr: Gehe hin, rufe deinen MannMann und komm hierher.16 Jesus says to her, Go, call thy husband, and come here.
17 Das Weib antwortete und sprach: Ich habe keinen MannMann. JesusJesus spricht zu ihr: Du hast recht gesagt: ich habe keinen MannMann;17 The woman answered and said, I have not a husband. Jesus says to her, Thou hast well said, I have not a husband;
18 denn fünf Männer hast du gehabt, und der, den du jetzt hast, ist nicht dein MannMann; hierin1 hast du wahr geredet.18 for thou hast had five husbands, and he whom now thou hast is not thy husband: this thou hast spoken truly.
19 Das Weib spricht zu ihm: HerrHerr, ich sehe, daß du ein ProphetProphet bist.19 The woman says to him, Sir, I see that thou art a prophet.
20 Unsere VäterVäter haben auf diesem BergeBerge angebetet, und ihr saget, daß in JerusalemJerusalem der Ort sei, wo man anbeten müsse.20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.
21 JesusJesus spricht zu ihr: Weib, glaube mir, es kommt die2 StundeStunde, da ihr weder auf diesem BergeBerge, noch in JerusalemJerusalem den VaterVater anbeten werdet.21 Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when ye shall neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem worship the Father.
22 Ihr betetbetet an und wisset nicht, was3; wir betenbeten an und wissen, was4, denn das HeilHeil ist aus den Juden.22 Ye worship ye know not what; we worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews.
23 Es kommt aber die5 StundeStunde und ist jetzt, da die wahrhaftigen Anbeter den VaterVater in GeistGeist und WahrheitWahrheit anbeten werden; denn auch der VaterVater sucht solche als seine Anbeter.23 But the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for also the Father seeks such as his worshippers.
24 GottGott ist ein GeistGeist, und die ihn anbeten, müssen in GeistGeist und WahrheitWahrheit anbeten.24 God is a spirit; and they who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.
25 Das Weib spricht zu ihm: Ich weiß, daß der MessiasMessias kommt, welcher ChristusChristus genannt wird; wenn jener kommt, wird er uns alles verkündigen.25 The woman says to him, I know that Messias is coming, who is called Christ; when he comes he will tell us all things.
26 JesusJesus spricht zu ihr: Ich bin's, der mit dir redet.26 Jesus says to her, I who speak to thee am he .
27 Und über diesem kamen seine JüngerJünger und verwunderten sich, daß er mit einem Weibe redete. Dennoch sagte niemand: Was suchst du? oder: Was redest du mit ihr?27 And upon this came his disciples, and wondered that he spoke with a woman; yet no one said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?
28 Das Weib nun ließ ihren Wasserkrug stehen und ging weg in die Stadt und sagt zu den Leuten:28 The woman then left her waterpot and went away into the city, and says to the men,
29 Kommet, sehet einen Menschen, der mir alles gesagt hat, was irgend ich getan habe; dieser ist doch nicht etwa der ChristusChristus?29 Come, see a man who told me all things I had ever done: is not he the Christ?
30 Sie gingen zu der Stadt hinaus und kamen zu ihm.30 They went out of the city and came to him.
31 In der Zwischenzeit [aber] baten ihn die JüngerJünger und sprachen: RabbiRabbi, iß.31 But meanwhile the disciples asked him saying, Rabbi, eat.
32 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich habe eine Speise zu essen, die ihr nicht kennet.32 But he said to them, I have food to eat which ye do not know.
33 Da sprachen die JüngerJünger zueinander: Hat ihm wohl jemand zu essen gebracht?33 The disciples therefore said to one another, Has any one brought him anything to eat?
34 JesusJesus spricht zu ihnen: Meine Speise ist, daß ich den Willen dessen tue, der mich gesandt hat, und sein Werk vollbringe6.34 Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.
35 Saget ihr nicht: Es sind noch vier MonateMonate, und die ErnteErnte kommt? Siehe, ich sage euch: Hebet eure AugenAugen auf und schauet die Felder an, denn sie sind schon weiß zur ErnteErnte.35 Do not ye say, that there are yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, for they are already white to harvest.
36 Der da erntet empfängt LohnLohn7 und sammelt Frucht zum ewigen LebenLeben, auf daß beide, der da sät und der da erntet, zugleich sich freuen.36 He that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.
37 Denn hierin ist der Spruch wahr: Ein anderer ist es, der da sät, und ein anderer, der da erntet.37 For in this is verified the true saying, It is one who sows and another who reaps.
38 Ich habe euch gesandt, zu ernten, woran ihr nicht gearbeitet habt; andere haben gearbeitet, und ihr seid in ihre Arbeit eingetreten.38 I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured; others have laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.
39 Aus jener Stadt aber glaubten viele von den SamariternSamaritern an ihn um des WortesWortes des Weibes willen, welches bezeugte: Er hat mir alles gesagt, was irgend ich getan habe.39 But many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman who bore witness, He told me all things that I had ever done.
40 Als nun die SamariterSamariter zu ihm kamen, baten sie ihn, bei ihnen zu bleiben; und er blieb daselbst zwei TageTage.40 When therefore the Samaritans came to him they asked him to abide with them, and he abode there two days.
41 Und noch viele mehr glaubten um seines WortesWortes willen;41 And more a great deal believed on account of his word;
42 und sie sagten zu dem Weibe: Wir glauben nicht mehr um deines Redens willen, denn wir selbst haben gehört und wissen, daß dieser wahrhaftig der HeilandHeiland der WeltWelt ist.42 and they said to the woman, It is no longer on account of thy saying that we believe, for we have heard him ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.
43 Nach den zwei Tagen aber zog er von dannen aus [und ging hin] nach GaliläaGaliläa;43 But after the two days he went forth thence and went away into Galilee,
44 denn JesusJesus selbst bezeugte, daß ein ProphetProphet in dem eigenen Vaterlande8 keine Ehre hat.44 for Jesus himself bore witness that a prophet has no honour in his own country.
45 Als er nun nach GaliläaGaliläa kam, nahmen die GaliläerGaliläer ihn auf, da sie alles gesehen, was er in JerusalemJerusalem auf dem FesteFeste getan hatte; denn auch sie kamen zu dem Fest.45 When therefore he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem during the feast, for they also went to the feast.
46 Er kam nun wiederum nach Kana in GaliläaKana in Galiläa, wo er das Wasser zu WeinWein gemacht hatte. Und es war ein gewisser königlicher BeamterBeamter, dessen SohnSohn krank war, in KapernaumKapernaum.46 He came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain courtier in Capernaum whose son was sick.
47 Als dieser gehört hatte, daß JesusJesus aus JudäaJudäa nach GaliläaGaliläa gekommen sei, ging er zu ihm hin und bat [ihn], daß er herabkomme und seinen SohnSohn heile; denn er lag im Sterben.47 He, having heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, went to him and asked him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
48 JesusJesus sprach nun zu ihm: Wenn ihr nicht ZeichenZeichen und WunderWunder sehet, so werdet ihr nicht glauben.48 Jesus therefore said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe.
49 Der königliche Beamte spricht zu ihm: HerrHerr, komm herab, ehe mein Kind stirbt!49 The courtier says to him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
50 JesusJesus spricht zu ihm: Gehe hin, dein SohnSohn lebt. Und der MenschMensch glaubte dem WorteWorte, das JesusJesus zu ihm sagte, und ging hin.50 Jesus says to him, Go, thy son lives. And the man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.
51 Aber schon während er hinabging, begegneten ihm seine KnechteKnechte und berichteten, daß sein Knabe lebe.51 But already, as he was going down, his servants met him and brought him word saying, Thy child lives.
52 Er erforschte nun von ihnen die StundeStunde, in welcher es besser mit ihm geworden sei; und sie sagten zu ihm: GesternGestern zur siebenten StundeStunde verließ ihn das FieberFieber.52 He inquired therefore from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 Da erkannte der VaterVater, daß es in jener StundeStunde war, in welcher JesusJesus zu ihm sagte: Dein SohnSohn lebt. Und er glaubte, er und sein ganzes HausHaus.53 The father therefore knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son lives; and he believed, himself and his whole house.
54 Dies tat JesusJesus wiederum als zweites ZeichenZeichen, als er aus JudäaJudäa nach GaliläaGaliläa gekommen war.54 This second sign again did Jesus, being come out of Judaea into Galilee.
