1 Als JesusJesus dieses gesagt hatte, ging er mit seinen JüngernJüngern hinaus über den BachBach KidronKidron, wo ein GartenGarten war, in welchen er hineinging, er und seine JüngerJünger.1 Jesus, having said these things, went out with his disciples beyond the torrent Cedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, he and his disciples.
2 Aber auch JudasJudas, der ihn überlieferte, wußte den Ort, weil JesusJesus sich oft daselbst mit seinen JüngernJüngern versammelte.2 And Judas also, who delivered him up, knew the place, because Jesus was often there, in company with his disciples.
3 Als nun JudasJudas die Schar und von den Hohenpriestern und PharisäernPharisäern DienerDiener genommen hatte, kommt er dahin mit Leuchten und Fackeln und WaffenWaffen.3 Judas therefore, having got the band, and officers of the chief priests and Pharisees, comes there with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 JesusJesus nun, der alles wußte, was über ihn kommen würde, ging hinaus und sprach zu ihnen: Wen suchet ihr?4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that were coming upon him, went forth and said to them, Whom seek ye?
5 Sie antworteten ihm: Jesum, den NazaräerNazaräer. JesusJesus spricht zu ihnen: Ich bin's. Aber auch JudasJudas, der ihn überlieferte, stand bei ihnen.5 They answered him, Jesus the Nazaraean. Jesus says to them, I am he . And Judas also, who delivered him up, stood with them.
6 Als er nun zu ihnen sagte: Ich bin's, wichen sie zurück und fielen zu Boden.6 When therefore he said to them, I am he , they went away backward and fell to the ground.
7 Da fragte er sie wiederum: Wen suchet ihr? Sie aber sprachen: Jesum, den NazaräerNazaräer.7 He demanded of them therefore again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus the Nazaraean.
8 JesusJesus antwortete: Ich habe euch gesagt, daß ich es bin; wenn ihr nun mich suchet, so laßt diese gehen;8 Jesus answered, I told you that I am he : if therefore ye seek me, let these go away;
9 auf daß das WortWort erfüllt würde, welches er sprach: Von denen, die du mir gegeben hast, habe ich keinen verloren1.9 that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, As to those whom thou hast given me, I have not lost one of them.
10 Simon PetrusSimon Petrus nun, der ein SchwertSchwert hatte, zog es und schlug den KnechtKnecht des Hohenpriesters und hieb ihm das rechte OhrOhr ab. Der Name des KnechtesKnechtes aber war MalchusMalchus.10 Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and smote the bondman of the high priest and cut off his right ear; and the bondman's name was Malchus.
11 Da sprach JesusJesus zu PetrusPetrus: Stecke das SchwertSchwert in die Scheide. Den KelchKelch, den mir der VaterVater gegeben hat, soll ich den nicht trinken?11 Jesus therefore said to Peter, Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given me, shall I not drink it?
12 Die Schar nun und der Oberste2 und die DienerDiener der Juden nahmen Jesum und banden ihn;12 The band therefore, and the chiliarch, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bound him:
13 und sie führten ihn zuerst hin zu AnnasAnnas, denn er war Schwiegervater des KajaphasKajaphas, der jenes Jahr3 HoherpriesterHoherpriester war.13 and they led him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14 KajaphasKajaphas aber war es, der den Juden geraten hatte, es sei nützlich, daß ein MenschMensch für das Volk sterbe.14 But it was Caiaphas who counselled the Jews that it was better that one man should perish for the people.
15 Simon PetrusSimon Petrus aber folgte Jesu und der andere JüngerJünger. Dieser JüngerJünger aber war dem Hohenpriester bekannt und ging mit Jesu hinein in den Hof des Hohenpriesters.15 Now Simon Peter followed Jesus, and the other disciple. But that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest;
16 PetrusPetrus aber stand an der TürTür draußen. Da ging der andere JüngerJünger, der dem Hohenpriester bekannt war, hinaus und sprach mit der TürhüterinTürhüterin und führte PetrusPetrus hinein.16 but Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the porteress and brought in Peter.
17 Da spricht die MagdMagd, die TürhüterinTürhüterin, zu PetrusPetrus: Bist nicht auch du einer von den JüngernJüngern dieses Menschen? Er sagt: Ich bin's nicht.17 The maid therefore, who was porteress, says to Peter, Art thou also of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.
18 Es standen aber die KnechteKnechte und die DienerDiener, die ein Kohlenfeuer gemacht hatten, weil es kalt war, und wärmten sich; PetrusPetrus aber stand auch bei ihnen und wärmte sich.18 But the bondmen and officers, having made a fire of coals (for it was cold), stood and warmed themselves; and Peter was standing with them and warming himself.
19 Der HohepriesterHohepriester nun fragte Jesum über seine JüngerJünger und über seine LehreLehre.19 The high priest therefore demanded of Jesus concerning his disciples and concerning his doctrine.
20 JesusJesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe öffentlich zu der WeltWelt geredet; ich habe allezeit in der SynagogeSynagoge und in dem TempelTempel gelehrt, wo alle Juden zusammenkommen, und im Verborgenen habe ich nichts geredet;20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I taught always in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and in secret I have spoken nothing.
21 was fragst du mich? Frage die, welche gehört, was ich zu ihnen geredet habe; siehe, diese wissen, was ich gesagt habe.21 Why demandest thou of me? Demand of those who have heard, what I have spoken to them; behold, they know what I have said.
22 Als er aber dieses sagte, gab einer der DienerDiener, der dabeistand, Jesu einen Backenstreich und sagte: Antwortest du also dem Hohenpriester?22 But as he said these things, one of the officers who stood by gave a blow on the face to Jesus, saying, Answerest thou the high priest thus?
23 JesusJesus antwortete ihm: Wenn ich übel geredet habe, so gib ZeugnisZeugnis von dem Übel; wenn aber recht, was schlägst du mich?23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 AnnasAnnas nun hatte ihn gebunden zu KajaphasKajaphas, dem Hohenpriester, gesandt4.24 Annas then had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
25 Simon PetrusSimon Petrus aber stand und wärmte sich. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Bist nicht auch du einer von seinen JüngernJüngern? Er leugnete und sprach: Ich bin's nicht.25 But Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, Art thou also of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.
26 Es spricht einer von den Knechten des Hohenpriesters, der ein Verwandter dessen war, welchem PetrusPetrus das OhrOhr abgehauen hatte: Sah ich dich nicht in dem GartenGarten bei ihm?26 One of the bondmen of the high priest, who was kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27 Da leugnete PetrusPetrus wiederum; und alsbald krähte der HahnHahn.27 Peter denied therefore again, and immediately the cock crew.
28 Sie führen nun Jesum von KajaphasKajaphas in das PrätoriumPrätorium; es war aber frühmorgens. Und sie gingen nicht hinein in das PrätoriumPrätorium, auf daß sie sich nicht verunreinigten, sondern das PassahPassah essen möchten.28 They lead therefore Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium; and it was early morn. And they entered not into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but eat the passover.
29 PilatusPilatus ging nun zu ihnen hinaus und sprach: Welche Anklage bringet ihr wider diesen Menschen?29 Pilate therefore went out to them and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man?
30 Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Wenn dieser nicht ein Übeltäter wäre, würden wir ihn dir nicht überliefert haben.30 They answered and said to him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up to thee.
31 Da sprach PilatusPilatus zu ihnen: Nehmet ihr ihn und richtet ihn nach eurem GesetzGesetz. Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Es ist uns nicht erlaubt, jemand zu töten;31 Pilate therefore said to them, Take him, ye, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not permitted to us to put any one to death;
32 auf daß das WortWort Jesu erfüllt würde, das er sprach, andeutend, welches TodesTodes er sterben sollte.32 that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.
33 PilatusPilatus ging nun wieder hinein in das PrätoriumPrätorium und rief Jesum und sprach zu ihm: Bist du der König der Juden?33 Pilate therefore entered again into the praetorium and called Jesus, and said to him, Thou art the king of the Jews?
34 JesusJesus antwortete [ihm]: Sagst du dies von dir selbst, oder haben dir andere von mir gesagt?34 Jesus answered him , Dost thou say this of thyself, or have others said it to thee concerning me?
35 PilatusPilatus antwortete: Bin ich etwa ein JudeJude? Deine Nation und die Hohenpriester haben dich mir überliefert; was hast du getan?35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy nation and the chief priests have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?
36 JesusJesus antwortete: Mein ReichReich ist nicht von dieser WeltWelt; wenn mein ReichReich von dieser WeltWelt wäre, so hätten meine DienerDiener gekämpft, auf daß ich den Juden nicht überliefert würde; jetzt aber ist mein ReichReich nicht von hier.36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my servants had fought that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.
37 Da sprach PilatusPilatus zu ihm: Also du bist ein König? JesusJesus antwortete: Du sagst es, daß ich ein König bin. Ich bin dazu geboren und dazu in die WeltWelt gekommen, auf daß ich der WahrheitWahrheit ZeugnisZeugnis gebe. Jeder, der aus der WahrheitWahrheit ist, hört meine Stimme.37 Pilate therefore said to him, Thou art then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest it , that I am a king. I have been born for this, and for this I have come into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
38 PilatusPilatus spricht zu ihm: Was ist WahrheitWahrheit? Und als er dies gesagt hatte, ging er wieder zu den Juden hinaus und spricht zu ihnen: Ich finde keinerlei SchuldSchuld an ihm;38 Pilate says to him, What is truth? And having said this he went out again to the Jews, and says to them, I find no fault whatever in him.
39 ihr habt aber eine Gewohnheit, daß ich euch an dem PassahPassah einen losgebe. Wollt ihr nun, daß ich euch den König der Juden losgebe?39 But ye have a custom that I release some one to you at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
40 Da schrieen wiederum alle und sagten: Nicht diesen, sondern den BarabbasBarabbas! BarabbasBarabbas aber war ein RäuberRäuber.40 They cried therefore again all, saying, Not this man , but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
