1 Und es geschah im siebenten Monat, da kam Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, des Sohnes Elischamas, vom königlichen Geschlecht¹ und von den Großen des Königs, und zehn Männer mit ihm, zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Achikams, nach Mizpa; und sie speisten daselbst zusammen in Mizpa.

1 And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the royal seed, and one of the king's chief men, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam unto Mizpah, and there they ate bread together, in Mizpah.

2 Und Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, stand auf, und die zehn Männer, die mit ihm waren, und sie erschlugen Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, des Sohnes Schaphans, mit dem Schwerte; und er tötete ihn, den der König von Babel über das Land bestellt hatte.

2 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

3 Und Ismael erschlug alle Juden, die bei ihm, bei Gedalja, in Mizpa waren, und auch die Chaldäer, die Kriegsleute, welche sich daselbst befanden.

3 And Ishmael smote all the Jews that were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, the men of war.

4 Und es geschah am zweiten Tage, nachdem er Gedalja getötet hatte, (niemand aber wußte es)

4 And it came to pass the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

5 da kamen Leute von Sichem, von Silo und von Samaria, achtzig Mann, die den Bart abgeschoren und die Kleider zerrissen und sich Ritze² gemacht hatten, mit Speisopfer und Weihrauch in ihrer Hand, um es zu dem Hause Jehovas zu bringen.

5 that there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves; with oblations and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Jehovah.

6 Und Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, ging aus von Mizpa, ihnen entgegen, indem er weinend einherging; und es geschah, als er sie antraf, da sprach er zu ihnen: Kommet zu Gedalja, dem Sohne Achikams.

6 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went; and it came to pass when he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

7 Und es geschah, als sie in die Stadt hineingekommen waren, da schlachtete sie Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, und warf sie in die Grube, er und die Männer, die mit ihm waren.

7 And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, he and the men that were with him, slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit.

8 Es fanden sich aber unter ihnen zehn Männer, die zu Ismael sprachen: Töte uns nicht! denn wir haben verborgene Vorräte³ im Felde: Weizen und Gerste und Öl und Honig. Und er ließ ab und tötete sie nicht inmitten ihrer Brüder.

9 Und die Grube, in welche Ismael alle Leichname der Männer, die er erschlagen hatte, neben Gedalja warf, war diejenige, welche der König Asa wegen⁴ Baesas, des Königs von Israel, machen ließ; diese füllte Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, mit den Erschlagenen.

9 And the pit into which Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain by the side of Gedaliah was the one which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.

10 Und Ismael führte den ganzen Überrest des Volkes, der in Mizpa war, gefangen weg: die Königstöchter und alles Volk, welches in Mizpa übriggeblieben war, welches Nebusaradan, der Oberste der Leibwache, Gedalja, dem Sohne Achikams, anvertraut hatte; und Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, führte sie gefangen weg und zog hin, um zu den Kindern Ammon hinüberzugehen.

10 And Ishmael carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

11 Und als Jochanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Heerobersten, die mit ihm waren, all das Böse hörten, welches Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, verübt hatte,

11 And Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done;

12 da nahmen sie alle Männer und zogen hin, um wider Ismael, den Sohn Nethanjas, zu streiten; und sie fanden ihn an dem großen Wasser⁵, das bei Gibeon ist.

12 and they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are at Gibeon.

13 Und es geschah, als alles Volk, welches mit Ismael war, Jochanan, den Sohn Kareachs, sah und alle Heerobersten, die mit ihm waren, da freuten sie sich.

13 And it came to pass when all the people that were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.

14 Und alles Volk, welches Ismael von Mizpa gefangen weggeführt hatte, wandte sich und kehrte um und ging zu Jochanan, dem Sohne Kareachs, über.

14 And all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

15 Ismael aber, der Sohn Nethanjas, entrann vor Jochanan mit acht Männern und zog zu den Kindern Ammon.

15 But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

16 Da nahmen Jochanan, der Sohn Kareachs, und alle Heerobersten, die mit ihm waren, den ganzen Überrest des Volkes, welchen er von Ismael, dem Sohne Nethanjas, von Mizpa zurückgebracht⁶, - nachdem dieser den Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, erschlagen hatte - die Männer, die Kriegsleute, und die Weiber und die Kinder und die Kämmerer, welche er von Gibeon zurückgebracht hatte;

16 Then Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon;

17 und sie zogen hin und machten halt in der Herberge Kimhams, welche bei Bethlehem ist, um fortzuziehen, damit sie nach Ägypten kämen,

18 aus Furcht vor den Chaldäern; denn sie fürchteten sich vor ihnen, weil Ismael, der Sohn Nethanjas, Gedalja, den Sohn Achikams, erschlagen, welchen der König von Babel über das Land bestellt hatte.
