1 and you, being dead in your offences and sins--

2 in welchen ihr einst wandeltet nach dem Zeitlauf dieser Welt, nach dem Fürsten der Gewalt der Luft, des Geistes, der jetzt wirksam ist in den Söhnen des Ungehorsams;

2 in which ye once walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience:

3 unter welchen auch wir einst alle unseren Verkehr hatten in den Lüsten unseres Fleisches, indem wir den Willen¹ des Fleisches und der Gedanken taten und von Natur Kinder des Zorns waren, wie auch die übrigen.

10 Denn wir sind sein Werk², geschaffen in Christo Jesu zu guten Werken, welche Gott zuvor bereitet hat, auf daß wir in ihnen wandeln sollen.

11 Deshalb seid eingedenk, daß ihr, einst die Nationen im Fleische, welche Vorhaut genannt werden von der sogenannten Beschneidung, die im Fleische mit Händen geschieht,

11 Wherefore remember that ye, once nations in the flesh, who are called uncircumcision by that called circumcision in the flesh done with the hand;

12 daß ihr zu jener Zeit ohne³ Christum waret, entfremdet dem Bürgerrecht Israels, und Fremdlinge betreffs der Bündnisse der Verheißung, keine Hoffnung habend, und ohne Gott⁴ in der Welt.

12 that ye were at that time without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 Jetzt aber, in Christo Jesu, seid ihr, die ihr einst fern waret, durch das Blut des Christus nahe geworden.

13 but now in Christ Jesus ye who once were afar off are become nigh by the blood of the Christ.

14 Denn er ist unser Friede, der aus beiden eines gemacht und abgebrochen hat die Zwischenwand der Umzäunung,

14 For he is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of enclosure,

15 nachdem er in seinem Fleische die Feindschaft, das Gesetz der Gebote in Satzungen, hinweggetan hatte, auf daß er die zwei, Frieden stiftend, in sich selbst zu einem neuen Menschen schüfe,
