1 Da erhob die ganze GemeindeGemeinde ihre Stimme und schrie, und das Volk weinte in selbiger NachtNacht.1 And the whole assembly lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 Und alle KinderKinder IsraelIsrael murrten wider MoseMose und wider AaronAaron, und die ganze GemeindeGemeinde sprach zu ihnen: O wären wir doch im Lande Ägypten gestorben, oder wären wir doch in dieser WüsteWüste gestorben!2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the whole assembly said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or in this wilderness would that we had died!
3 Und warum bringt uns JehovaJehova in dieses Land, daß wir durchs SchwertSchwert fallen und unsere Weiber und unsere Kindlein zur BeuteBeute werden? Wäre es nicht besser für uns, nach Ägypten zurückzukehren?3 And why is Jehovah bringing us to this land that we may fall by the sword, that our wives and our little ones may become a prey? Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?
4 Und sie sprachen einer zum anderen: Laßt uns ein HauptHaupt über uns setzen und nach Ägypten zurückkehren! -4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return to Egypt.
5 Da fielen MoseMose und AaronAaron auf ihr Angesicht vor der ganzen VersammlungVersammlung der GemeindeGemeinde der KinderKinder IsraelIsrael.5 Then Moses and Aaron fell upon their faces before the whole congregation of the assembly of the children of Israel.
6 Und JosuaJosua, der SohnSohn Nuns, und KalebKaleb, der SohnSohn JephunnesJephunnes, von denen, die das Land ausgekundschaftet hatten, zerrissen ihre KleiderKleider6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of them that searched out the land, rent their garments.
7 und sie sprachen zu der ganzen GemeindeGemeinde der KinderKinder IsraelIsrael und sagten: Das Land, das wir durchzogen haben, um es auszukundschaften, das Land ist sehr, sehr gut.7 And they spoke to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it out, is a very, very good land.
8 Wenn JehovaJehova Gefallen an uns hat, so wird er uns in dieses Land bringen und es uns geben, ein Land, das von MilchMilch und HonigHonig fließt.8 If Jehovah delight in us, he will bring us into this land, and give it us, a land that flows with milk and honey;
9 Nur empöret euch nicht wider JehovaJehova; und fürchtet ja nicht das Volk des Landes, denn unser BrotBrot werden sie sein. Ihr Schirm1 ist von ihnen gewichen, und JehovaJehova ist mit uns; fürchtet sie nicht!9 only rebel not against Jehovah; and fear not the people of the land; for they shall be our food. Their defence is departed from them, and Jehovah is with us: fear them not.
10 Und die ganze GemeindeGemeinde sagte, daß man sie steinigen solle.Da erschien die HerrlichkeitHerrlichkeit JehovasJehovas an dem ZelteZelte der Zusammenkunft allen KindernKindern IsraelIsrael.10 And the whole assembly said that they should be stoned with stones. And the glory of Jehovah appeared in the tent of meeting to all the children of Israel.
11 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu MoseMose: Wie lange will mich dieses Volk verachten, und wie lange wollen sie mir nicht glauben2 bei all den ZeichenZeichen, die ich in ihrer Mitte getan habe?11 And Jehovah said to Moses, How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe me, for all the signs which I have done among them?
12 Ich will es mit der PestPest schlagen und es vertilgen; und ich will dich zu einer Nation machen, größer und stärker als sie.12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and destroy them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.
13 Und MoseMose sprach zu JehovaJehova: So werden die Ägypter es hören; denn durch deine MachtMacht hast du dieses Volk aus ihrer Mitte heraufgeführt;13 And Moses said to Jehovah, Then the Egyptians will hear it; for in thy might thou broughtest up this people from the midst of them;
14 und man wird es den Bewohnern dieses Landes sagen, welche gehört haben3, daß du, JehovaJehova, in der Mitte dieses Volkes bist, daß du, JehovaJehova, Auge in Auge dich sehen läßt, und daß deine WolkeWolke über ihnen steht, und du in einer Wolkensäule vor ihnen hergehst bei TageTage und in einer Feuersäule bei NachtNacht.14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that thou, Jehovah, art in the midst of this people, that thou, Jehovah, lettest thyself be seen eye to eye, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night;
15 Und tötest du dieses Volk wie einen MannMann, so werden die NationenNationen, die deinen RufRuf gehört haben, sprechen und sagen:15 if thou now slayest this people as one man, then the nations that have heard thy fame will speak, saying,
16 Weil JehovaJehova nicht vermochte, dieses Volk in das Land zu bringen, das er ihnen zugeschworen hatte, so hat er sie in der WüsteWüste hingeschlachtet.16 Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land that he had sworn unto them, he has therefore slain them in the wilderness.
17 Und nun möge doch die MachtMacht des HerrnHerrn sich groß erweisen, so wie du geredet hast, indem du sprachst:17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 JehovaJehova ist langsam zum ZornZorn und groß an Güte, der Ungerechtigkeit und Übertretung vergibt, - aber keineswegs hält er für schuldlos4 den Schuldigen - der die Ungerechtigkeit der VäterVäter heimsucht an den KindernKindern am dritten und am vierten Gliede.18 Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in goodness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but by no means clearing the guilty , visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and fourth generation .
19 Vergib doch die Ungerechtigkeit dieses Volkes nach der Größe deiner Güte, und so wie du diesem Volke verziehen hast von Ägypten an bis hierher!19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy loving-kindness, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20 Und JehovaJehova sprach: Ich habe vergebenvergeben nach deinem WorteWorte.20 And Jehovah said, I have pardoned according to thy word.
21 Doch aber, so wahr ich lebe, soll von der HerrlichkeitHerrlichkeit JehovasJehovas erfüllt werden die ganze ErdeErde;21 But as surely as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Jehovah!
22 denn alle die Männer, die meine HerrlichkeitHerrlichkeit und meine ZeichenZeichen gesehen haben, welche ich in Ägypten und in der WüsteWüste getan, und mich nun zehnmal versucht und nicht gehört haben auf meine Stimme -22 for all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice,
23 wenn sie das Land sehen werden5, das ich ihren VäternVätern zugeschworen habe! ja, alle, die mich verachtet haben, sollen es nicht sehen.23 shall in no wise see the land which I did swear unto their fathers: none of them that despised me shall see it.
24 Aber meinen KnechtKnecht KalebKaleb, weil ein anderer GeistGeist in ihm gewesen und er mir völlig nachgefolgt ist, ihn werde ich in das Land bringen, in welches er gekommen ist; und sein Same soll es besitzen.24 But my servant Caleb, because he hath another spirit in him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he came; and his seed shall possess it.
25 Die AmalekiterAmalekiter aber und die KanaaniterKanaaniter wohnen in der Niederung; morgen wendet euch und brechet auf nach der WüsteWüste, des Weges zum SchilfmeerSchilfmeer.25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valley.) To-morrow turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness, on the way to the Red sea.
26 Und JehovaJehova redete zu MoseMose und zu AaronAaron und sprach:26 And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
27 Wie lange soll es mit dieser bösen GemeindeGemeinde währen, daß sie wider mich murrt? Das Murren der KinderKinder IsraelIsrael, das sie wider mich murren, habe ich gehört.27 How long shall I bear with this evil assembly, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 Sprich zu ihnen: So wahr ich lebe, spricht Jehova6, wenn ich euch nicht also tun werde, wie ihr vor meinen Ohren geredet habt!28 Say unto them, As surely as I live, saith Jehovah, if I do not do unto you as ye have spoken in mine ears!
29 In dieser WüsteWüste sollen eure Leichname fallen, ja, alle eure Gemusterten nach eurer ganzen Zahl, von zwanzig Jahren und darüber, die ihr wider mich gemurrt habt.29 In this wilderness shall your carcases fall; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number from twenty years old and upwards, who have murmured against me,
30 Wenn ihr in das Land kommen werdet, darinnen euch wohnen zu lassen ich meine Hand erhoben habe, außer KalebKaleb, dem SohneSohne JephunnesJephunnes, und JosuaJosua, dem SohneSohne Nuns!30 shall in no wise come into the land, concerning which I have lifted up my hand to make you dwell in it; save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 Und eure Kindlein, von denen ihr gesagt habt: sie werden zur BeuteBeute werden! die will ich hineinbringen, und sie sollen das Land kennen lernen, das ihr verschmäht habt.31 But your little ones, of whom ye said they should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land that ye have despised.
32 Ihr aber, eure Leichname sollen in dieser WüsteWüste fallen;32 And as to you, your carcases shall fall in this wilderness.
33 und eure KinderKinder sollen vierzig JahreJahre lang in der WüsteWüste weiden und eure Hurereien tragen, bis eure Leichname in der WüsteWüste aufgerieben sind.33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
34 Nach der Zahl der TageTage, die ihr das Land ausgekundschaftet habt, vierzig TageTage, je einen TagTag für ein JahrJahr, sollt ihr vierzig JahreJahre lang eure Ungerechtigkeiten tragen, und ihr sollt erfahren, was es ist, wenn ich mich abwende!34 After the number of the days in which ye have searched out the land, forty days, each day for a year shall ye bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know mine estrangement from you .
35 Ich, JehovaJehova, habe es geredet; wenn ich dies nicht tun werde an dieser ganzen bösen GemeindeGemeinde, die sich wider mich zusammengerottet hat! In dieser WüsteWüste sollen sie aufgerieben werden, und daselbst sollen sie sterben!35 I Jehovah have spoken; I will surely do it unto all this evil assembly which have gathered together against me! in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36 Und die Männer, welche MoseMose ausgesandt hatte, um das Land auszukundschaften, und die zurückkehrten und die ganze GemeindeGemeinde wider ihn murren machten, indem sie ein böses Gerücht über das Land ausbrachten,36 And the men whom Moses had sent to search out the land, who returned, and made the whole assembly to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report upon the land,
37 jene Männer, die ein böses Gerücht über das Land ausgebracht hatten, starben durch eine Plage vor JehovaJehova.37 even those men who had brought up an evil report upon the land, died by a plague before Jehovah.
38 Aber JosuaJosua, der SohnSohn Nuns, und KalebKaleb, der SohnSohn JephunnesJephunnes, blieben am LebenLeben von jenen Männern, welche gegangen waren, das Land auszukundschaften.38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, lived still of the men that had gone to search out the land.
39 Und als MoseMose jene WorteWorte zu allen KindernKindern IsraelIsrael redete, da trauerte das Volk sehr.39 And Moses told all these sayings to all the children of Israel; then the people mourned greatly.
40 Und sie machten sich des MorgensMorgens früh auf, um auf den Gipfel des GebirgesGebirges hinaufzuziehen, und sprachen: Hier sind wir und wollen an den Ort hinaufziehen, von welchem JehovaJehova geredet hat; denn wir haben gesündigt.40 And they rose up early in the morning, and went up to the hill-top, saying, Here are we, and we will go up to the place of which Jehovah has spoken; for we have sinned.
41 Aber MoseMose sprach: Warum übertretet ihr doch den Befehl JehovasJehovas? Es wird ja nicht gelingen!41 And Moses said, Why now do ye transgress the commandment of Jehovah? but it shall not prosper!
42 Ziehet nicht hinauf, denn JehovaJehova ist nicht in eurer Mitte, daß ihr nicht vor euren Feinden geschlagen werdet,42 Go not up, for Jehovah is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies;
43 denn die AmalekiterAmalekiter und die KanaaniterKanaaniter sind dort vor euch, und ihr werdet durchs SchwertSchwert fallen. Weil ihr euch von der Nachfolge Jehovas7 abgewandt habt, wird JehovaJehova nicht mit euch sein.43 for the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; for as ye have turned away from Jehovah, Jehovah will not be with you.
44 Doch sie vermaßen sich, auf den Gipfel des GebirgesGebirges hinaufzuziehen; aber die LadeLade des BundesBundes JehovasJehovas und MoseMose wichen nicht aus der Mitte des LagersLagers.44 Yet they presumed to go up to the hill-top; but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and Moses, did not depart from the midst of the camp.
45 Da kamen die AmalekiterAmalekiter und die KanaaniterKanaaniter, die auf jenem GebirgeGebirge wohnten, herab und schlugen und zersprengten sie bis HormaHorma.45 And the Amalekites and the Canaanites who dwelt on that hill, came down and smote them, and cut them to pieces, as far as Hormah.
