1 Da wurde der König sehr bewegt, und er stieg hinauf in das ObergemachObergemach des ToresTores und weinte; und während er ging, sprach er also: Mein SohnSohn AbsalomAbsalom! mein SohnSohn, mein SohnSohn AbsalomAbsalom! wäre ich doch an deiner Statt gestorben! AbsalomAbsalom, mein SohnSohn, mein SohnSohn!33 And the king was much moved, and went up to the upper chamber of the gate, and wept; and as he went, he said thus: O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died in thy stead, O Absalom, my son, my son!
2 Und es wurde JoabJoab berichtet: Siehe, der König weint und trauert um AbsalomAbsalom.1 And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.
3 Und der Sieg wurde an jenem TageTage zur TrauerTrauer für das ganze Volk; denn das Volk hörte an jenem TageTage sagen: Der König ist betrübt um seinen SohnSohn.2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning for all the people; for the people heard say that day, The king is grieved for his son.
4 Und das Volk stahl sich in die Stadt hinein an jenem TageTage, wie ein Volk sich wegstiehlt, das zu Schanden geworden, wenn es im StreitStreit geflohen ist.3 And the people stole away that day into the city, as people steal away when ashamed of fleeing in battle.
5 Und der König hatte sein Angesicht verhüllt, und der König schrie mit lauter Stimme: Mein SohnSohn AbsalomAbsalom! AbsalomAbsalom, mein SohnSohn, mein SohnSohn!4 And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, My son Absalom! Absalom, my son, my son!
6 Da begab sich JoabJoab zum König ins HausHaus und sprach: Du hast heute das Angesicht aller deiner KnechteKnechte beschämt, die heute dein LebenLeben errettet haben und das LebenLeben deiner Söhne und deiner Töchter, und das LebenLeben deiner Weiber und das LebenLeben deiner Kebsweiber,5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast put to shame this day the faces of all thy servants who have this day saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives and the lives of thy concubines;
7 indem du liebst die dich hassen, und hassest die dich lieben; denn du hast heute kundgetan, daß dir Oberste und KnechteKnechte nichts sind; denn heute erkenne ich, daß, wenn AbsalomAbsalom lebendig und wir alle heute tot wären, daß es dann recht wäre in deinen AugenAugen.6 in that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest those that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that neither princes nor servants are anything to thee: for to-day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died to-day, then it would have been right in thine eyes.
8 Und nun mache dich auf, gehe hinaus und rede zum Herzen deiner KnechteKnechte; denn ich schwöre bei JehovaJehova, wenn du nicht hinausgehst, so wird diese NachtNacht nicht ein MannMann bei dir bleiben; und das wäre schlimmer für dich als alles Übel, das über dich gekommen ist von deiner Jugend an bis jetzt.7 But now arise, go forth, and speak consolingly to thy servants; for I swear by Jehovah, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night; and that would be worse to thee than all the evil that has befallen thee from thy youth until now.
9 Da machte der König sich auf und setzte sich in das TorTor. Und man berichtete allem Volke und sprach: Siehe, der König sitzt im ToreTore! Da kam alles Volk vor den König.IsraelIsrael aber war geflohen, ein jeder nach seinen Zelten.8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate. And all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.
10 Und das ganze Volk haderte miteinander unter allen Stämmen IsraelsIsraels und sprach: Der König hat uns aus der Hand unserer Feinde errettet, und er hat uns befreit aus der Hand der PhilisterPhilister; und jetzt ist er vor AbsalomAbsalom aus dem Lande geflohen.9 And all the people were at strife throughout the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land because of Absalom.
11 AbsalomAbsalom aber, den wir über uns gesalbt hatten, ist im StreitStreit gestorben; und nun, warum schweiget ihr davon, den König zurückzuführen?10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle; and now why are ye silent as to bringing the king back?
12 Und der König DavidDavid sandte zu ZadokZadok und zu AbjatharAbjathar, den PriesternPriestern, und sprach: Redet zu den Ältesten von JudaJuda und sprechet: Warum wollt ihr die letzten sein, den König in sein HausHaus zurückzuführen? denn die Rede des ganzen IsraelIsrael ist1 zum König in sein HausHaus gekommen.11 And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak to the elders of Judah saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, to his house.
13 Meine BrüderBrüder seid ihr, ihr seid mein Gebein und mein FleischFleisch; und warum wollt ihr die letzten sein, den König zurückzuführen?12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh; and why will ye be the last to bring back the king?
14 Und zu AmasaAmasa sollt ihr sagen: Bist du nicht mein Gebein und mein FleischFleisch?2 So soll mir GottGott tun und so hinzufügen, wenn du nicht alle TageTage Heeroberster vor mir sein sollst an JoabsJoabs Statt!13 And say to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually instead of Joab.
15 Und er neigte das HerzHerz aller Männer von JudaJuda wie eines MannesMannes HerzHerz; und sie entboten dem KönigeKönige: Kehre zurück, du und alle deine KnechteKnechte.14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah as of one man; and they sent to the king, Return, thou and all thy servants.
16 Und der König kehrte zurück und kam bis an den JordanJordan; und JudaJuda kam nach GilgalGilgal, dem König entgegen, um den König über den JordanJordan zu führen.15 And the king returned and came as far as the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over the Jordan.
17 Da eilte SimeiSimei, der SohnSohn GerasGeras, der Benjaminiter, der von BachurimBachurim war, und kam mit den Männern von JudaJuda herab, dem König DavidDavid entgegen;16 And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, who was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.
18 und mit ihm waren tausend MannMann von BenjaminBenjamin, und ZibaZiba, der DienerDiener des Hauses SaulsSauls, und seine fünfzehn Söhne und seine zwanzig KnechteKnechte mit ihm; und sie zogen über den JordanJordan, dem König entgegen3.17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they forded the Jordan before the king.
19 (Eine FähreFähre aber fuhr über, um das HausHaus des Königs hinüberzuführen und zu tun was gut war in seinen AugenAugen.) Und SimeiSimei, der SohnSohn GerasGeras, fiel vor dem König nieder, als er im Begriff stand, über den JordanJordan zu fahren.18 And a ferry boat passed to and fro to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king as he was just crossing over the Jordan.
20 Und er sprach zu dem König: Mein HerrHerr wolle mir keine Verschuldung zurechnenzurechnen; und gedenke nicht, wie dein KnechtKnecht sich vergangen hat an dem TageTage, da mein HerrHerr, der König, aus JerusalemJerusalem zog, daß der König es zu Herzen nehme!19 And he said to the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity to me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to heart.
21 Denn dein KnechtKnecht weiß wohl, daß ich gesündigt habe. Und siehe, ich bin heute gekommen, der erste vom ganzen HauseHause JosephJoseph, um hinabzugehen, meinem HerrnHerrn, dem König, entgegen.20 For thy servant knows that I have sinned; and behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.
22 Und AbisaiAbisai, der SohnSohn der ZerujaZeruja, antwortete und sprach: Sollte nicht SimeiSimei dafür getötet werden, daß er dem Gesalbten JehovasJehovas geflucht hat?21 And Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Should not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Jehovah's anointed?
23 Aber DavidDavid sprach: Was haben wir miteinander zu schaffen, ihr Söhne der ZerujaZeruja, daß ihr mir heute zu WidersachernWidersachern werdet? Sollte heute ein MannMann in IsraelIsrael getötet werden? Denn weiß ich nicht, daß ich heute König bin über IsraelIsrael?22 And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries to me? Should there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?
24 Und der König sprach zu SimeiSimei: Du sollst nicht sterben! Und der König schwur ihm.23 And the king said to Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king swore to him.
25 Und MephibosethMephiboseth, der SohnSohn SaulsSauls, kam herab, dem König entgegen. Und er hatte seine Füße nicht gereinigt und seinen BartBart nicht gemacht und seine KleiderKleider nicht gewaschen von dem TageTage an, da der König weggegangen war, bis zu dem TageTage, da er in Frieden einzog.24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. Now he had neither washed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
26 Und es geschah, als JerusalemJerusalem4 dem König entgegenkam, da sprach der König zu ihm: Warum bist du nicht mit mir gezogen, MephibosethMephiboseth?25 And as soon as Jerusalem came to meet the king, the king said to him, Why didst thou not go with me, Mephibosheth?
27 Und er sprach: Mein HerrHerr König! mein KnechtKnecht hat mich betrogen; denn dein KnechtKnecht sprach: Ich will mir den EselEsel satteln und darauf reiten und mit dem König ziehen, denn dein KnechtKnecht ist lahm;26 And he said, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me; for thy servant said, I will saddle me the ass, and ride thereon, and go with the king; for thy servant is lame.
28 und er hat deinen KnechtKnecht bei meinem HerrnHerrn, dem König, verleumdet. Aber mein HerrHerr, der König, ist wie ein5 Engel GottesEngel Gottes: so tue was gut ist in deinen AugenAugen.27 And he has slandered thy servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God; do therefore what is good in thy sight.
29 Denn das ganze HausHaus meines VatersVaters war nichts anderes als Männer des TodesTodes vor meinem HerrnHerrn, dem König; und doch hast du deinen KnechtKnecht unter die gesetzt, welche an deinem Tische essen. Und was für ein Recht habe ich noch? und um was hätte ich noch zum König zu schreien?28 For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king; and thou didst set thy servant among them that eat at thine own table. What further right therefore have I? and for what should I cry any more to the king?
30 Und der König sprach zu ihm: Warum redest du noch von deinen Sachen? Ich sage: Du und ZibaZiba, ihr sollt die Felder teilen.29 And the king said to him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land.
31 Da sprach MephibosethMephiboseth zu dem König: Er mag auch das Ganze nehmen, nachdem mein HerrHerr, der König, in Frieden in sein HausHaus gekommen ist.30 And Mephibosheth said to the king, Let him even take all, since my lord the king is come again in peace to his own house.
32 Und BarsillaiBarsillai, der GileaditerGileaditer, kam von RogelimRogelim herab und ging mit dem König über den JordanJordan, um ihn über den JordanJordan zu geleiten.31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.
33 BarsillaiBarsillai war aber sehr alt, ein MannMann von achtzig Jahren; und er hatte den König versorgt, als er zu MachanaimMachanaim weilte, denn er war ein sehr reicher MannMann.32 And Barzillai was very aged, eighty years old; and it was he that had maintained the king while he abode at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
34 Und der König sprach zu BarsillaiBarsillai: Gehe du mit mir hinüber, und ich will dich bei mir versorgen zu JerusalemJerusalem.33 And the king said to Barzillai, Pass thou over with me, and I will maintain thee with me in Jerusalem.
35 Und BarsillaiBarsillai sprach zu dem König: Wie viel sind noch der TageTage meiner LebensjahreLebensjahre, daß ich mit dem König nach JerusalemJerusalem hinaufziehen sollte?34 And Barzillai said to the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?
36 Ich bin heute achtzig JahreJahre alt; kann ich Gutes und Schlechtes unterscheiden? oder kann dein KnechtKnecht schmecken, was ich esse und was ich trinke? oder kann ich noch auf die Stimme der Sänger und der Sängerinnen horchen? Und warum sollte dein KnechtKnecht meinem HerrnHerrn, dem König, noch zur LastLast sein?35 I am this day eighty years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat and what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? and why should thy servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?
37 Dein KnechtKnecht würde nur auf kurze Zeit6 mit dem König über den JordanJordan gehen; und warum sollte der König mir diese Vergeltung erweisen?36 Thy servant will go a little way over the Jordan with the king; and why should the king recompense it to me with this reward?
38 Laß doch deinen KnechtKnecht zurückkehren, daß ich in meiner Stadt sterbe, bei dem GrabeGrabe meines VatersVaters und meiner MutterMutter. Aber siehe, hier ist dein KnechtKnecht KimhamKimham: er möge mit meinem HerrnHerrn, dem König, hinübergehen; und tue ihm was gut ist in deinen AugenAugen.37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham: let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what seems good to thee.
39 Und der König sprach: KimhamKimham soll mit mir hinübergehen, und ich will ihm tun was gut ist in deinen AugenAugen; und alles was du von mir begehren wirst, will ich für dich tun.38 And the king said, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which seems good to thee; and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
40 Und alles Volk ging über den JordanJordan, und auch der König ging hinüber. Und der König küßte BarsillaiBarsillai und segnete ihn; und er kehrte an seinen Ort zurück.39 And all the people went over the Jordan; and the king went over; and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.
41 Und der König ging hinüber nach GilgalGilgal, und KimhamKimham ging mit ihm hinüber. Und alles Volk von JudaJuda, und auch die Hälfte des Volkes von IsraelIsrael, führte den König hinüber.40 And the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him; and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
42 Und siehe, alle Männer von IsraelIsrael kamen zu dem König und sprachen zu dem König: Warum haben unsere BrüderBrüder, die Männer von JudaJuda, dich weggestohlen und den König und sein HausHaus und alle Männer DavidsDavids mit ihm über den JordanJordan geführt?41 And behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over the Jordan?
43 Und alle Männer von JudaJuda antworteten den Männern von IsraelIsrael: Weil der König mir nahe steht; und warum bist du denn über diese Sache erzürnt? Haben wir etwa von dem König Nahrung empfangen, oder hat er uns irgend ein Geschenk gemacht?42 And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to me; and why then are ye angry for this matter? have we eaten anything which came from the king, or has he given us any present?
44 Aber die Männer von IsraelIsrael antworteten den Männern von JudaJuda und sprachen: Ich habe zehn Teile an dem König, und habe auch an DavidDavid mehr Anrecht als du; und warum hast du mich gering geachtet? und ist nicht mein WortWort das erste gewesen, meinen König zurückzuführen? Und das WortWort der Männer von JudaJuda war härter als das WortWort der Männer von IsraelIsrael.43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, I have ten parts in the king and I have also more right in David than thou; and why didst thou slight me? and was not my advice the first, to bring back my king? And the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.
