1 Und DavidDavid musterte das Volk, das bei ihm war, und setzte über sie Oberste über tausend und Oberste über hundert.1 And David marshalled the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
2 Und DavidDavid entsandte das Volk: ein Drittel unter der Hand JoabsJoabs und ein Drittel unter der Hand AbisaisAbisais, des SohnesSohnes der ZerujaZeruja, des BrudersBruders JoabsJoabs, und ein Drittel unter der Hand IttaisIttais, des GathitersGathiters. Und der König sprach zu dem Volke: Auch ich werde gewißlich mit euch ausziehen.2 And David sent forth the people, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
3 Aber das Volk sprach: Du sollst nicht ausziehen; denn wenn wir fliehen müßten, so würden sie nicht auf uns den Sinn richten; und wenn die Hälfte von uns stürbe, so würden sie nicht auf uns den Sinn richten; denn du bist wie unser zehntausend. So ist es nun besser, daß du uns von der Stadt aus zum BeistandeBeistande bist.3 But the people said, Thou shalt not go forth, for if we should in any case flee, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us; for thou art worth ten thousand of us; and now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
4 Und der König sprach zu ihnen: Was gut ist in euren AugenAugen will ich tun. Und der König stellte sich an die Seite des ToresTores, und alles Volk zog aus zu1 Hunderten und zu2 Tausenden.4 And the king said to them, I will do what is good in your sight. And the king stood by the gate-side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.
5 Und der König gebot JoabJoab und AbisaiAbisai und IttaiIttai und sprach: Verfahret mir gelinde mit dem Jüngling, mit AbsalomAbsalom! Und alles Volk hörte es, als der König allen Obersten wegen AbsalomsAbsaloms gebot.5 And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
6 Und das Volk zog aus ins Feld, IsraelIsrael entgegen; und die Schlacht fand statt im WaldeWalde EphraimEphraim.6 And the people went out into the field against Israel; and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.
7 Und das Volk von IsraelIsrael wurde daselbst vor den Knechten DavidsDavids geschlagen, und die Niederlage wurde daselbst groß an jenem TageTage: zwanzigtausend MannMann.7 And the people of Israel were routed before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter there that day: twenty thousand men.
8 Und die Schlacht breitete sich daselbst aus über das ganze Land; und der WaldWald fraß mehr unter dem Volke, als das SchwertSchwert an jenem TageTage fraß.8 And the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country; and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
9 Und AbsalomAbsalom stieß auf die KnechteKnechte DavidsDavids; und AbsalomAbsalom ritt auf einem MaultierMaultier, und das MaultierMaultier kam unter die verschlungenen Zweige einer großen TerebintheTerebinthe; und er blieb mit dem HaupteHaupte an der TerebintheTerebinthe hangen, und schwebte zwischen HimmelHimmel und ErdeErde; das MaultierMaultier aber, das unter ihm war, lief davon.9 And Absalom found himself in the presence of David's servants. And Absalom was riding upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of the great terebinth, and his head caught in the terebinth, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
10 Und ein MannMann sah es und berichtete es JoabJoab und sprach: Siehe, ich habe AbsalomAbsalom an einer TerebintheTerebinthe hangen sehen.10 And a man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in a terebinth.
11 Da sprach JoabJoab zu dem ManneManne, der es ihm berichtete: Siehe, wenn du ihn gesehen hast, warum hast du ihn nicht daselbst zu Boden geschlagen? und an mir war es, dir zehn SekelSekel SilberSilber und einen GürtelGürtel zu geben.11 And Joab said to the man that told him, And behold, thou sawest him , and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten silver pieces and a girdle.
12 Aber der MannMann sprach zu JoabJoab: Und wenn ich tausend SekelSekel SilberSilber auf meinen Händen wöge, würde ich meine Hand nicht nach des Königs SohnSohn ausstrecken; denn vor unseren Ohren hat der König dir und AbisaiAbisai und IttaiIttai geboten und gesagt: Seid vorsichtig, wer es auch sei, mit dem3 Jüngling, mit AbsalomAbsalom!12 And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand silver pieces in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king's son; for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Take care, whoever it be of you , of the young man Absalom.
13 Hätte ich aber trüglich gegen sein LebenLeben gehandelt, - und es bleibt ja keine Sache vor dem König verborgen - so würdest du4 selbst wider mich auftreten5.13 Or I should have acted falsely against mine own life, for there is no matter concealed from the king, and thou wouldest have set thyself against me .
14 Da sprach JoabJoab: Ich mag nicht also vor dir warten. Und er nahm drei Spieße in seine Hand und stieß sie in das HerzHerz AbsalomsAbsaloms, während er noch inmitten der TerebintheTerebinthe lebte.14 Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three spears in his hand, and thrust them into Absalom's body, while he was yet alive in the midst of the terebinth.
15 Und zehn Knaben, WaffenträgerWaffenträger JoabsJoabs, umgaben und erschlugen AbsalomAbsalom und töteten ihn.15 And ten young men that bore Joab's armour surrounded and smote Absalom, and killed him.
16 Und JoabJoab stieß in die Posaune, und das Volk kehrte um von der Verfolgung IsraelsIsraels; denn JoabJoab hielt das Volk ab6.16 And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab kept back the people.
17 Und sie nahmen AbsalomAbsalom und warfen ihn in eine7 große GrubeGrube im WaldeWalde, und errichteten über ihm einen sehr großen Haufen SteineSteine. Und ganz IsraelIsrael floh, ein jeder nach seinem ZelteZelte.17 And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and raised a very great heap of stones upon him. And all Israel fled every one to his tent.
18 AbsalomAbsalom aber hatte bei seinen Lebzeiten eine Denksäule genommen und sich aufgerichtet, die im KönigstaleKönigstale steht; denn er sprach: Ich habe keinen SohnSohn, um meinen NamenNamen in Erinnerung zu halten. Und er hatte die Denksäule nach seinem NamenNamen genannt; und man nennt sie das DenkmalDenkmal AbsalomsAbsaloms, bis auf diesen TagTag.18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a monument, which is in the king's dale; for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance; and he called the monument after his own name; and it is called unto this day, Absalom's memorial.
19 Und AchimaazAchimaaz, der SohnSohn ZadoksZadoks, sprach: Ich will doch hinlaufen und dem König Botschaft bringen, daß JehovaJehova ihm Recht verschafft hat von der Hand8 seiner Feinde.19 And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, Let me run, I pray, and carry the king the news that Jehovah has avenged him of his enemies.
20 Aber JoabJoab sprach zu ihm: Du sollst nicht BoteBote sein an diesem TageTage, sondern du magst an einem anderen TageTage Botschaft bringen; doch an diesem TageTage sollst du nicht Botschaft bringen, da ja der SohnSohn des Königs tot ist.20 And Joab said to him, Thou shalt not be a bearer of news to-day, but thou shalt carry the news another day; but to-day thou shalt carry no news, because the king's son is dead.
21 Und JoabJoab sprach zu dem Kuschiten: Gehe hin, berichte dem König was du gesehen hast. Und der Kuschit beugte sich nieder vor JoabJoab und lief hin.21 Then said Joab to the Cushite, Go, tell the king what thou hast seen. And the Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
22 Da sprach AchimaazAchimaaz, der SohnSohn ZadoksZadoks, wiederum zu JoabJoab: Was auch geschehen möge, laß doch auch mich hinter dem Kuschiten herlaufen! Und JoabJoab sprach: Warum willst du denn laufen, mein SohnSohn, da für dich keine einträgliche Botschaft da ist? -22 And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, Come what may, let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite. And Joab said, Why wilt thou run, my son, seeing that there is no news suited to thee ?
23 Was auch geschehen möge, ich will laufen. - Und er sprach zu ihm: LaufeLaufe! Und AchimaazAchimaaz lief den Weg des Jordan-Kreises und kam dem Kuschiten zuvor.23 --But, come what may, let me run. And he said to him, Run. And Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and outstripped the Cushite.
24 Und DavidDavid saß zwischen den beiden Toren; und der Wächter ging auf das Dach des ToresTores, auf die Mauer, und er erhob seine AugenAugen und sah, und siehe, ein MannMann, der allein lief.24 And David sat between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate, on to the wall, and lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man running alone.
25 Und der Wächter rief und berichtete es dem König. Und der König sprach: Wenn er allein ist, so ist eine Botschaft in seinem Munde. Und er kam stets näher und näher.25 And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is news in his mouth. And he came on and drew near.
26 Da sah der Wächter einen anderen MannMann laufen; und der Wächter rief dem TorhüterTorhüter zu9 und sprach: Siehe, ein MannMann, der allein läuft! Und der König sprach: Auch dieser ist ein BoteBote.26 And the watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the porter and said, Behold a man running alone. And the king said, He also is a bearer of news.
27 Und der Wächter sprach: Ich sehe den LaufLauf des ersten an für den LaufLauf des AchimaazAchimaaz, des SohnesSohnes ZadoksZadoks. Und der König sprach: Das ist ein guter MannMann, und er kommt zu guter Botschaft.27 And the watchman said, I see the running of the foremost like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man; and comes with good news.
28 Und AchimaazAchimaaz rief und sprach zu dem König: FriedeFriede!10 und er beugte sich vor dem König auf sein Antlitz zur ErdeErde nieder und sprach: Gepriesen sei JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, der die Männer überliefert hat, die ihre Hand erhoben haben wider meinen HerrnHerrn, den König!28 And Ahimaaz called and said to the king, Peace! And he fell down to the earth on his face before the king, and said, Blessed be Jehovah thy God, who has delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
29 Und der König sprach: Geht es dem Jüngling, dem AbsalomAbsalom, wohl? Und AchimaazAchimaaz sprach: Ich sah ein großes Getümmel, als JoabJoab den KnechtKnecht des Königs und deinen KnechtKnecht absandte; aber ich weiß nicht, was es war.29 And the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz said, I saw a great tumult when Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant; but I knew not what it was.
30 Und der König sprach: Wende dich, stelle dich hierher. Und er wandte sich und blieb stehen.30 And the king said, Turn aside and stand here. And he turned aside and stood still.
31 Und siehe, der Kuschit kam, und der Kuschit sprach: Mein HerrHerr, der König, lasse sich die Botschaft bringen, daß JehovaJehova dir heute Recht verschafft hat von der Hand aller, die wider dich aufgestanden sind.31 And behold, the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, Let my lord the king receive good tidings, for Jehovah has avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
32 Und der König sprach zu dem Kuschiten: Geht es dem Jüngling, dem AbsalomAbsalom, wohl? Und der Kuschit sprach: Wie dem Jüngling, so möge es den Feinden des Königs, meines HerrnHerrn, ergehen und allen, die wider dich aufgestanden sind zum Bösen!32 And the king said to the Cushite, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And the Cushite said, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee for evil, be as that young man.
