4 Und der König gebot Hilkija, dem Hohenpriester, und den Priestern zweiten Ranges und den Hütern der Schwelle, aus dem Tempel Jehovas alle Geräte hinauszutun, die dem Baal und der Aschera und dem ganzen Heere des Himmels gemacht worden waren; und er verbrannte sie außerhalb Jerusalems in den Gefilden des Kidron, und ließ ihren Staub nach Bethel bringen.

4 And the king commanded Hilkijah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that had been made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of the heavens; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.

5 Und er schaffte die Götzenpriester¹ ab, welche die Könige von Juda eingesetzt hatten, und die auf den Höhen, in den Städten von Juda und in der Umgebung von Jerusalem geräuchert hatten; und die, welche dem Baal, der Sonne und dem Monde und dem Tierkreise² und dem ganzen Heere des Himmels räucherten.

5 And he abolished the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah, and the environs of Jerusalem; and them that burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.

6 Und er schaffte die Aschera aus dem Hause Jehovas hinaus, außerhalb Jerusalems, in das Tal³ Kidron; und er verbrannte sie im Tale Kidron und zermalmte sie zu Staub und warf ihren Staub auf die Gräber der Kinder des Volkes⁴.

6 And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the torrent of Kidron, and burned it at the torrent of Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder upon the graves of the children of the people.

7 Und er riß die Häuser der Buhler nieder, die sich im Hause Jehovas befanden, worin die Weiber Zelte⁵ webten für die Aschera.

7 And he broke down the houses of the sodomites, which were in the house of Jehovah, where the women wove tents for the Asherah.

8 Und er ließ alle Priester aus den Städten Judas kommen, und verunreinigte die Höhen, wo die Priester geräuchert hatten, von Geba bis Beerseba. Und er riß die Höhen der Tore nieder, die am Eingang des Tores Josuas, des Obersten der Stadt, und die am Stadttore zur Linken jedes Eintretenden waren.

8 And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba even to Beer-sheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates, those at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, and those on the left hand of any going in at the gate of the city.

9 Doch opferten die Priester der Höhen nicht auf dem Altar⁶ Jehovas zu Jerusalem, sondern sie aßen Ungesäuertes in der Mitte ihrer Brüder.

9 Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they ate of the unleavened bread among their brethren.

10 Und er verunreinigte das Topheth⁷, welches im Tale der Söhne Hinnoms lag, damit niemand mehr seinen Sohn oder seine Tochter dem Molech durchs Feuer gehen ließe.

10 And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might cause his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

11 Und er schaffte die Rosse ab, welche die Könige von Juda der Sonne gesetzt hatten am Eingang des Hauses Jehovas, bei der Zelle Nethan-Meleks, des Kämmerers, der im Parwarim⁸ wohnte; und die Wagen der Sonne verbrannte er mit Feuer.

11 And he abolished the horses that the kings of Judah had appointed to the sun at the entrance of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burned the chariots of the sun, with fire.

12 Und die Altäre, die auf dem Dache des Obergemachs des Ahas waren, welche die Könige von Juda gemacht hatten, und die Altäre, welche Manasse in den beiden Höfen des Hauses Jehovas gemacht hatte, riß der König nieder und zertrümmerte sie⁹, und er warf ihren Staub in das Tal Kidron.

12 And the king broke down the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, and he shattered them, removing them from thence, and cast the powder of them into the torrent of Kidron.

13 Und der König verunreinigte die Höhen, die vor¹⁰ Jerusalem, zur Rechten des Berges des Verderbens waren, welche Salomo, der König von Israel, der Astoreth, dem Scheusal der Zidonier, und Kamos¹¹, dem Scheusal Moabs, und Milkom, dem Greuel der Kinder Ammon, gebaut hatte.

13 And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.

14 Und er zerschlug die Bildsäulen und hieb die Ascherim um, und füllte ihre Stätte mit Menschengebeinen an.

14 And he broke in pieces the columns, and cut down the Asherahs, and filled their place with the bones of men.

15 Und auch den Altar, der zu Bethel war, die Höhe, welche Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, gemacht hatte, der Israel sündigen machte, auch diesen Altar und die Höhe riß er nieder; und er verbrannte die Höhe, zermalmte sie zu Staub und verbrannte die Aschera.

15 Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, the high place that Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and burned the high place, stamped it small to powder, and burned the Asherah.

16 Und als Josia sich umwandte und die Gräber sah, die daselbst in dem Berge waren, da sandte er hin und ließ die Gebeine aus den Gräbern holen und verbrannte sie auf dem Altar und verunreinigte ihn, nach dem Worte Jehovas, das der Mann Gottes ausgerufen hatte, der diese Dinge ausrief.¹²

16 And Josiah turned himself, and saw the sepulchres that were there on the mount; and he sent and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Jehovah, that the man of God had proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

17 Und er sprach: Was ist das dort für ein Mal, das ich sehe? Und die Leute der Stadt sprachen zu ihm: Es ist das Grab des Mannes Gottes, der von Juda gekommen ist und diese Dinge ausgerufen hat, die du wider den Altar von Bethel getan hast.

17 Then he said, What tombstone is that which I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which thou hast done against the altar of Bethel.

18 Und er sprach: Laßt ihn liegen, niemand beunruhige seine Gebeine! Und so retteten sie seine Gebeine samt den Gebeinen des Propheten, der von Samaria gekommen war.

18 And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. And they saved his bones, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

19 Und auch alle Häuser der Höhen, die in den Städten Samarias waren, welche die Könige von Israel gemacht hatten, um Jehova zu reizen, tat Josia hinweg; und er verfuhr mit ihnen gerade so, wie er zu Bethel verfahren war.

19 And all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke Jehovah to anger, Josiah removed, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

20 Und er schlachtete alle Priester der Höhen, die daselbst waren, auf den Altären, und verbrannte Menschengebeine auf denselben. Und er kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.

20 And he sacrificed upon the altars all the priests of the high places that were there, and burned men's bones upon them. And he returned to Jerusalem.

21 Und der König gebot dem ganzen Volke und sprach: Feiert Jehova, eurem Gott, Passah, wie in diesem Buche des Bundes geschrieben steht.

21 And the king commanded all the people saying, Hold the passover to Jehovah your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.

22 Denn es war kein solches Passah gefeiert worden wie dieses, von den Tagen der Richter an, welche Israel gerichtet haben, und alle Tage der Könige von Israel und der Könige von Juda;

22 For there was not holden such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;

23 sondern im achtzehnten Jahre des Königs Josia wurde dieses Passah dem Jehova zu Jerusalem gefeiert.

23 but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this passover holden to Jehovah in Jerusalem.

24 Und auch die Totenbeschwörer und die Wahrsager, und die Teraphim¹³ und die Götzen, und alle Scheusale, die im Lande Juda und in Jerusalem gesehen wurden, schaffte Josia hinweg, um die Worte des Gesetzes auszuführen, welche in dem Buche geschrieben standen, das der Priester Hilkija im Hause Jehovas gefunden hatte.

24 Moreover the necromancers and the soothsayers, and the teraphim and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, Josiah took away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkijah the priest had found in the house of Jehovah.

25 Und vor ihm ist seinesgleichen kein König gewesen, der zu Jehova umgekehrt wäre mit seinem ganzen Herzen und mit seiner ganzen Seele und mit seiner ganzen Kraft, nach allem Gesetz Moses; und nach ihm ist seinesgleichen nicht aufgestanden.

25 And before him there had been no king like him that turned to Jehovah with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there his like.

26 Doch kehrte Jehova nicht um von der großen Glut seines Zornes, womit sein Zorn wider Juda entbrannt war, wegen all der Reizungen, mit welchen Manasse ihn gereizt hatte.

26 But Jehovah turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked him.

27 Und Jehova sprach: Auch Juda will ich vor meinem Angesicht hinwegtun, wie ich Israel hinweggetan habe; und ich will diese Stadt verwerfen, die ich erwählt, Jerusalem, und das Haus, von dem ich gesagt habe: Mein Name soll daselbst sein!

27 And Jehovah said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will reject this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.

28 Und das Übrige der Geschichte Josias und alles was er getan hat, ist das nicht geschrieben in dem Buche der Chronika der Könige von Juda?

28 And the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

29 In seinen Tagen zog der Pharao Neko, der König von Ägypten, wider den König von Assyrien hinauf, an den Strom Phrat. Und der König Josia zog ihm entgegen; aber Neko¹⁴ tötete ihn zu Megiddo, sowie er ihn sah.

29 In his days Pharaoh-Nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates; and king Josiah went against him; but Nechoh slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

30 Und seine Knechte führten ihn zu Wagen tot von Megiddo hinweg und brachten ihn nach Jerusalem; und sie begruben ihn in seinem Begräbnis. Und das Volk des Landes nahm Joahas, den Sohn Josias, und sie salbten ihn und machten ihn zum König an seines Vaters Statt.

30 And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead.

31 Dreiundzwanzig¹⁵ Jahre war Joahas alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte drei Monate zu Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Hamutal, die Tochter Jeremias, von Libna.

31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Hamutal, daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

32 Und er tat was böse war in den Augen Jehovas, nach allem was seine Väter getan hatten.

32 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.

33 Und der Pharao Neko setzte ihn gefangen zu Ribla im Lande Hamath, daß er nicht mehr König wäre¹⁶ zu Jerusalem; und er legte dem Lande eine Buße von hundert Talenten Silber und einem Talente Gold auf.

33 And Pharaoh-Nechoh had him bound at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and laid a tribute upon the land of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

34 Und der Pharao Neko machte Eljakim, den Sohn Josias, zum König, an Josias, seines Vaters, Statt, und verwandelte seinen Namen in Jojakim; Joahas aber nahm er mit, und er kam nach Ägypten und starb daselbst.

34 And Pharaoh-Nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king instead of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And he took Jehoahaz; and he came to Egypt, and died there.

35 Und Jojakim gab das Silber und das Gold dem Pharao; doch schätzte er das Land, um das Geld nach dem Befehle des Pharao zu geben: von dem Volke des Landes, von einem jeden nach seiner Schätzung, trieb er das Silber und das Gold ein, um es dem Pharao Neko zu geben.

35 And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he laid a proportional tax on the land to give the money according to the command of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his estimation, to give it to Pharaoh-Nechoh.

36 Fünfundzwanzig¹⁷ Jahre war Jojakim alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte elf Jahre zu Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Sebudda¹⁸, die Tochter Pedajas, von Ruma.

36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Zebuddah, daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

37 Und er tat was böse war in den Augen Jehovas, nach allem was seine Väter getan hatten.

37 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.
