Kgs. 22,19 Because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spoke against this place and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and didst rend thy garments and weep before me, I also have heard thee , saith Jehovah.

1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jedidah, daughter of Adaiah of Bozcath.

2 Und er tat was recht war in den Augen Jehovas; und er wandelte auf allen Wegen seines Vaters David und wich nicht zur Rechten noch zur Linken.

2 And he did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand nor to the left.

3 Und es geschah im achtzehnten Jahre des Königs Josia, da sandte der König Schaphan, den Sohn Azaljas, des Sohnes Meschullams, den Schreiber, in das Haus Jehovas und sprach:

3 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

7 Doch soll das Geld, das in ihre Hand gegeben wird, nicht mit ihnen verrechnet werden; denn sie handeln getreulich.

8 Und der Hohepriester Hilkija sprach zu Schaphan, dem Schreiber: Ich habe das Buch des Gesetzes im Hause Jehovas gefunden. Und Hilkija gab das Buch dem Schaphan, und er las es.

8 And Hilkijah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkijah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 Und Schaphan, der Schreiber, kam zum König und brachte dem König Nachricht und sprach: Deine Knechte haben das Geld, das sich im Hause vorfand, ausgeschüttet und es in die Hand derer gegeben, welche das Werk betreiben, die am Hause Jehovas bestellt sind.

9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again and said, Thy servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah.

10 Und Schaphan, der Schreiber, berichtete dem König und sprach: Der Priester Hilkija hat mir ein Buch gegeben. Und Schaphan las es vor dem König.

10 And Shaphan the scribe informed the king saying, Hilkijah the priest has given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 Und es geschah, als der König die Worte des Buches des Gesetzes hörte, da zerriß er seine Kleider.

11 And it came to pass when the king heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his garments.

12 Und der König gebot Hilkija, dem Priester, und Achikam, dem Sohne Schaphans, und Akbor, dem Sohne Michajas, und Schaphan, dem Schreiber, und Asaja, dem Knechte des Königs, und sprach:

12 And the king commanded Hilkijah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying,

13 Gehet hin, befraget Jehova für mich und für das Volk und für ganz Juda wegen der Worte dieses gefundenen Buches. Denn groß ist der Grimm Jehovas, der wider uns entzündet ist, darum daß unsere Väter auf die Worte dieses Buches nicht gehört haben, um nach allem zu tun, was unsertwegen geschrieben ist².

16 So spricht Jehova: Siehe, ich will Unglück bringen über diesen Ort und über seine Bewohner: alle Worte des Buches, welches der König von Juda gelesen hat.

16 Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon the inhabitants thereof, all the words of the book that the king of Judah hath read.

17 Darum daß sie mich verlassen und anderen Göttern geräuchert haben, um mich zu reizen mit all dem Machwerk ihrer Hände, so wird mein Grimm sich entzünden wider diesen Ort und wird nicht erlöschen.

18 Zu dem König von Juda aber, der euch gesandt hat, um Jehova zu befragen, zu ihm sollt ihr also sprechen: So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Die Worte anlangend, die du gehört hast -

18 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus shall ye say to him: Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel touching the words which thou hast heard:

19 weil dein Herz weich geworden ist, und du dich vor Jehova gedemütigt hast, als du hörtest, was ich über³ diesen Ort und über⁴ seine Bewohner geredet habe, daß sie zur Verwüstung und zum Fluche werden sollen, und du deine Kleider zerrissen und vor mir geweint hast, so habe ich es auch gehört, spricht Jehova⁵.
