1 Und DavidDavid zog von dannen hinauf und blieb auf den Bergfesten von EngediEngedi.1 And it came to pass when Saul had returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.
2 Und es geschah, als SaulSaul von der Verfolgung der PhilisterPhilister zurückgekehrt war, da berichtete man ihm und sprach: Siehe, DavidDavid ist in der WüsteWüste EngediEngedi.2 And Saul took three thousand men, chosen out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
3 Und SaulSaul nahm dreitausend auserlesene Männer aus ganz IsraelIsrael und zog hin, um DavidDavid und seine Männer auf den Steinbock-Felsen zu suchen.3 And he came to the sheepfolds by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet; and David and his men were abiding in the recesses of the cave.
4 Und er kam zu den Kleinviehhürden am Wege, wo eine Höhle war, und SaulSaul ging hinein, um seine Füße zu bedecken; DavidDavid aber und seine Männer saßen am hinteren Ende der Höhle.4 And David's men said to him, Behold the day of which Jehovah said to thee, Behold, I will give thine enemy into thy hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good to thee. And David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe secretly.
5 Da sprachen die Männer DavidsDavids zu ihm: Siehe, das ist der TagTag, von welchem JehovaJehova zu dir gesagt hat: Siehe, ich werde deinen Feind in deine Hand geben, und tue ihm, wie es gut ist in deinen AugenAugen. Und DavidDavid stand auf und schnitt heimlich einen Zipfel von dem OberkleideOberkleide SaulsSauls ab.5 And it came to pass afterwards that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.
6 Aber es geschah hernach, da schlug dem DavidDavid sein HerzHerz, darum daß er den Zipfel von dem OberkleideOberkleide SaulsSauls abgeschnitten hatte;6 And he said to his men, Jehovah forbid that I should do this thing to my master, Jehovah's anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him, for he is the anointed of Jehovah.
7 und er sprach zu seinen Männern: JehovaJehova lasse es fern von mir sein, daß ich so etwas an meinem HerrnHerrn, dem Gesalbten JehovasJehovas, tun sollte, meine Hand gegen ihn auszustrecken! denn er ist der GesalbteGesalbte JehovasJehovas.7 And David checked his men with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. And Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
8 Und DavidDavid wehrte seinen Männern mit diesen Worten und ließ ihnen nicht zu, sich wider SaulSaul zu erheben. Und SaulSaul stand auf aus der Höhle und zog seines1 Weges.8 David also arose afterwards, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king! And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.
9 Und nachher machte DavidDavid sich auf, und er ging aus der Höhle hinaus und rief hinter SaulSaul her und sprach: Mein HerrHerr König! Und SaulSaul blickte hinter sich, und DavidDavid neigte sein Antlitz zur ErdeErde und beugte sich nieder.9 And David said to Saul, Why dost thou listen to words of men, saying, Behold, David seeks thy hurt?
10 Und DavidDavid sprach zu SaulSaul: Warum hörst du auf die WorteWorte der Menschen, welche sagen: Siehe, DavidDavid sucht dein Unglück?10 Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had given thee this day into my hand in the cave; and they bade me kill thee; but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord, for he is the anointed of Jehovah.
11 Siehe, an diesem TageTage haben deine AugenAugen gesehen, daß JehovaJehova dich heute in meine Hand gegeben hat in der Höhle. Und man sagte mir, ich solle dich töten2; aber mein Auge schonte deiner, und ich sprach: Ich will meine Hand nicht wider meinen HerrnHerrn ausstrecken, denn er ist der GesalbteGesalbte JehovasJehovas!11 And see, my father, yes, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand. For in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou liest in wait for my life to take it.
12 Und sieh, mein VaterVater, ja, sieh den Zipfel deines OberkleidesOberkleides in meiner Hand! Denn daß ich einen Zipfel deines OberkleidesOberkleides abgeschnitten und dich nicht getötet habe, daran erkenne und sieh, daß nichts Böses in meiner Hand ist, noch ein Vergehen, und daß ich nicht an dir gesündigt habe; du aber stellst meinem LebenLeben nach, um es zu nehmen.12 Jehovah judge between me and thee, and Jehovah avenge me of thee; but my hand shall not be upon thee.
13 JehovaJehova richte zwischen mir und dir, und JehovaJehova räche mich an dir; aber meine Hand soll nicht wider dich sein.13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked; but my hand shall not be upon thee.
14 Wie der Spruch der Vorväter sagt: Von den Gesetzlosen kommt GesetzlosigkeitGesetzlosigkeit; aber meine Hand soll nicht wider dich sein.14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a single flea.
15 Hinter wem zieht der König von IsraelIsrael her? wem jagst du nach? Einem toten HundeHunde, einem FlohFloh!15 Jehovah therefore shall be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and do me justice in delivering me out of thy hand.
16 So sei denn JehovaJehova RichterRichter, und richte zwischen mir und dir; und er sehe darein und führe meine Streitsache und verschaffe mir Recht aus deiner Hand3!16 And as soon as David had ended speaking these words to Saul, Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice and wept.
17 Und es geschah, als DavidDavid diese WorteWorte zu SaulSaul ausgeredet hatte, da sprach SaulSaul: Ist das deine Stimme, mein SohnSohn DavidDavid? Und SaulSaul erhob seine Stimme und weinte.17 And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.
18 Und er sprach zu DavidDavid: Du bist gerechter als ich. Denn du hast mir Gutes erzeigt, ich aber habe dir Böses erzeigt;18 And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me, forasmuch as when Jehovah had delivered me up into thy hand, thou didst not kill me.
19 und du hast heute bewiesen, daß du Gutes an mir getan hast, da JehovaJehova mich in deine Hand geliefert, und du mich nicht getötet hast.19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore Jehovah reward thee good for that thou hast done to me this day.
20 Denn wenn jemand seinen Feind findet, wird er ihn auf gutem Wege ziehen lassen? So möge JehovaJehova dir Gutes vergelten für das, was du an diesem TageTage an mir getan hast!20 And now behold, I know that thou shalt certainly be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thy hand.
21 Und nun siehe, ich weiß, daß du gewißlich König werden wirst, und daß in deiner Hand das Königtum IsraelsIsraels bestehen wird;21 Swear now therefore to me by Jehovah, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.
22 so schwöre mir nun bei JehovaJehova, daß du meinen Samen nach mir nicht ausrotten und meinen NamenNamen nicht vertilgen willst aus dem HauseHause meines VatersVaters!22 And David swore to Saul. And Saul went home; and David and his men went up to the stronghold.
23 Und DavidDavid schwur SaulSaul. Und SaulSaul ging nach seinem HauseHause; DavidDavid und seine Männer aber stiegen auf die Bergfeste.
