1 Und die PhilisterPhilister sammelten ihre Heere zum StreitStreit und versammelten sich zu SokoSoko, das JudaJuda gehört, und lagerten sich bei Ephes-DammimEphes-Dammim, zwischen SokoSoko und AsekaAseka.1 And the Philistines assembled their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Sochoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Sochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
2 Und SaulSaul und die Männer von IsraelIsrael versammelten und lagerten sich im TerebinthentaleTerebinthentale, und sie stellten sich in Schlachtordnung auf, den PhilisternPhilistern gegenüber.2 And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the valley of terebinths, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
3 Und die PhilisterPhilister standen am BergeBerge jenseits, und IsraelIsrael stand am BergeBerge diesseits, und das TalTal war zwischen ihnen.3 And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side; and the ravine was between them.
4 Und der Zwischenkämpfer trat aus den LagernLagern der PhilisterPhilister hervor, sein Name war GoliathGoliath, aus Gath1; seine HöheHöhe war sechs Ellen und eine SpanneSpanne.4 And there went out a champion from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 Und er hatte einen ehernen HelmHelm auf seinem HaupteHaupte, und er war mit einem Schuppenpanzer bekleidet, und das Gewicht des PanzersPanzers war fünftausend SekelSekel Erz.5 And he had a helmet of bronze upon his head, and he was clothed with a corselet of scales; and the weight of the corselet was five thousand shekels of bronze.
6 Und er hatte eherne Schienen an seinen Beinen und einen ehernen WurfspießWurfspieß zwischen seinen SchulternSchultern;6 And he had greaves of bronze upon his legs, and a javelin of bronze between his shoulders.
7 und der Schaft seines SpeeresSpeeres war wie ein Weberbaum, und die Spitze seines SpeeresSpeeres war sechshundert SekelSekel EisenEisen. Und der Schildträger ging vor ihm her.7 And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and the shield-bearer went before him.
8 Und er trat hin und rief den SchlachtreihenSchlachtreihen IsraelsIsraels zu und sprach zu ihnen: Warum ziehet ihr aus, euch in Schlachtordnung aufzustellen? Bin ich nicht der PhilisterPhilister, und ihr die KnechteKnechte SaulsSauls? Wählet euch einen MannMann, daß er zu mir herabkomme!8 And he stood and cried to the ranks of Israel, and said to them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I the Philistine, and ye servants of Saul? choose for yourselves a man, and let him come down to me.
9 Wenn er mit mir zu kämpfen vermag und mich erschlägt, so wollen wir eure KnechteKnechte sein; wenn ich ihn aber überwinde und ihn erschlage, so sollt ihr unsere KnechteKnechte sein und uns dienen.9 If he be able to fight with me, and to smite me, then will we be your servants; but if I overcome and smite him, then shall ye be our servants and serve us.
10 Und der PhilisterPhilister sprach: Ich habe die SchlachtreihenSchlachtreihen IsraelsIsraels verhöhnt an diesem TageTage! GebetGebet mir einen MannMann, daß wir miteinander kämpfen!10 And the Philistine said, I have defied the ranks of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
11 Und SaulSaul und ganz IsraelIsrael hörten diese WorteWorte des PhilistersPhilisters, und sie erschraken und fürchteten sich sehr.11 And Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, and they were dismayed and greatly afraid.
12 DavidDavid nun war der SohnSohn jenes Ephratiters2 von Bethlehem-Juda, dessen Name IsaiIsai war und der acht Söhne hatte; und der MannMann war in den Tagen SaulsSauls alt, im Alter vorgerückt unter den Männern.12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem-Judah whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons; and the man was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men.
13 Und die drei ältesten Söhne IsaisIsais waren hingegangen, sie waren SaulSaul nachgefolgt zum StreitStreit; und die NamenNamen seiner drei Söhne, die in den StreitStreit gezogen, waren: EliabEliab, der Erstgeborene, und sein Zweiter, AbinadabAbinadab, und der Dritte, SchammaSchamma.13 And the three eldest of the sons of Jesse had gone and followed Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and the second to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14 Und DavidDavid war der Jüngste, und die drei Ältesten waren SaulSaul nachgefolgt.14 And David was the youngest; and the three eldest had followed Saul.
15 DavidDavid aber ging hin und kam wieder zurück von SaulSaul, um das Kleinvieh seines VatersVaters zu weiden zu BethlehemBethlehem. -15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
16 Und der PhilisterPhilister trat morgens und abends herzu und stellte sich hin, vierzig TageTage lang. -16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 Und IsaiIsai sprach zu seinem SohneSohne DavidDavid: Nimm doch für deine BrüderBrüder dieses EphaEpha geröstete Körner und diese zehn BroteBrote, und bringe sie schnell in das LagerLager zu deinen BrüdernBrüdern;17 And Jesse said to David his son, Take, I pray, for thy brethren, this ephah of parched corn and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brethren;
18 und diese zehn Schnitten Milchkäse bringe dem Obersten über tausend und besuche deine BrüderBrüder, um nach ihrem Wohlergehen zu fragen, und nimm ein PfandPfand von ihnen mit.18 and carry these ten cheeses to the captain of the thousand, and visit thy brethren to see how they are, and take a pledge of them.
19 SaulSaul und sie und alle Männer von IsraelIsrael sind nämlich im TerebinthentaleTerebinthentale, streitend mit den PhilisternPhilistern. -19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel were in the valley of terebinths, fighting against the Philistines.
20 Da machte sich DavidDavid des MorgensMorgens früh auf und überließ das Kleinvieh einem Hüter; und er nahm und ging hin, wie IsaiIsai ihm geboten hatte; und er kam an die Wagenburg, als das Heer, das in die Schlachtreihe ausrückte, das Kampfgeschrei erhob.20 And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took his charge and went, as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the wagon-defence; and the host which was going forth to the battle-array shouted for the fight.
21 Und IsraelIsrael und die PhilisterPhilister stellten sich auf, Schlachtreihe gegen Schlachtreihe.21 And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, rank against rank.
22 Und DavidDavid überließ das Gerät, das er trug, der Hand des Hüters der Geräte und lief in die Schlachtreihe; und er kam und fragte seine BrüderBrüder nach ihrem Wohlergehen.22 And David left the things he was carrying in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran into the ranks, and came and saluted his brethren.
23 Und während er mit ihnen redete, siehe, da kam der Zwischenkämpfer herauf, GoliathGoliath, der PhilisterPhilister, sein Name, von GathGath, aus den SchlachtreihenSchlachtreihen der PhilisterPhilister und sprach nach jenen Worten; und DavidDavid hörte es.23 And as he talked with them, behold there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words; and David heard them .
24 Und alle Männer von IsraelIsrael, als sie den MannMann sahen, flohen vor ihm und fürchteten sich sehr.24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were greatly afraid.
25 Und die Männer von IsraelIsrael sprachen: Habt ihr diesen MannMann gesehen, der heraufkommt? denn um IsraelIsrael zu verhöhnen, kommt er herauf. Und es soll geschehen, den MannMann, der ihn erschlägt, den will der König bereichern mit großem Reichtum, und er will ihm seine TochterTochter geben, und das HausHaus seines VatersVaters will er frei machen in IsraelIsrael.25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that comes up? for to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who smites him, him will the king enrich with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
26 Da sprach DavidDavid zu den Männern, die bei ihm standen, und sagte: Was soll dem ManneManne geschehen, der diesen PhilisterPhilister da erschlägt und den Hohn von IsraelIsrael abwendet? denn wer ist dieser PhilisterPhilister, dieser Unbeschnittene, daß er die SchlachtreihenSchlachtreihen des lebendigen GottesGottes verhöhnt?26 And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that smites this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
27 Und das Volk sprach zu ihm nach jenem WorteWorte und sagte: So soll dem ManneManne geschehen, der ihn erschlägt.27 And the people told him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that smites him.
28 Und EliabEliab, sein ältester BruderBruder, hörte zu, als er zu den Männern redete; und der ZornZorn EliabsEliabs entbrannte wider DavidDavid, und er sprach: Warum doch bist du herabgekommen, und wem hast du jene wenigen SchafeSchafe in der WüsteWüste überlassen? Ich kenne deine Vermessenheit wohl und die Bosheit deines Herzens; denn um den StreitStreit zu sehen, bist du herabgekommen.28 And Eliab, his eldest brother, heard while he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
29 Und DavidDavid sprach: Was habe ich nun getan? Ist es nicht der Mühe wert?329 And David said, What have I now done? Was it not laid upon me?
30 Und er wandte sich von ihm ab, einem anderen zu, und sprach nach jenem WorteWorte; und das Volk gab ihm Antwort nach der vorigen Antwort.30 And he turned from him to another, and spoke after the same manner; and the people answered him again after the former manner.
31 Und die WorteWorte, welche DavidDavid geredet hatte, wurden gehört, und man erzählte sie vor SaulSaul; und er ließ ihn holen.31 And the words were heard which David spoke, and they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
32 Und DavidDavid sprach zu SaulSaul: Es entfalle keinem Menschen das HerzHerz seinetwegen! Dein KnechtKnecht will gehen und mit diesem PhilisterPhilister kämpfen.32 And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him: thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 Aber SaulSaul sprach zu DavidDavid: Du vermagst nicht wider diesen PhilisterPhilister zu gehen, um mit ihm zu kämpfen; denn du bist ein Jüngling, er aber ist ein KriegsmannKriegsmann von seiner Jugend an.33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 Da sprach DavidDavid zu SaulSaul: Dein KnechtKnecht weidete das Kleinvieh für seinen VaterVater; kam nun ein LöweLöwe oder ein BärBär und trug ein Stück von der HerdeHerde fort,34 And David said to Saul, Thy servant fed his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and also a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock.
35 so lief ich ihm nach und schlug ihn und entriß es seinem Rachen; und erhob er sich wider mich, so ergriff ich ihn bei dem BarteBarte und schlug ihn und tötete ihn.35 And I went after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I seized him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Sowohl den Löwen als auch den Bären hat dein KnechtKnecht erschlagen; und dieser PhilisterPhilister, dieser Unbeschnittene, soll sein wie einer von ihnen, weil er die SchlachtreihenSchlachtreihen des lebendigen GottesGottes verhöhnt hat!36 Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.
37 Und DavidDavid sprach: JehovaJehova, der mich aus den Klauen4 des Löwen und aus den Klauen5 des Bären errettet hat, er wird mich aus der Hand dieses PhilistersPhilisters erretten. Und SaulSaul sprach zu DavidDavid: gehe hin, und JehovaJehova sei mit dir!37 And David said, Jehovah who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and Jehovah be with thee.
38 Und SaulSaul zog DavidDavid seinen RockRock an und setzte einen ehernen HelmHelm auf sein HauptHaupt und zog ihm einen PanzerPanzer an.38 And Saul clothed David with his dress, and put a helmet of bronze upon his head, and clothed him with a corselet.
39 Und DavidDavid gürtete sein SchwertSchwert über seinen RockRock und wollte gehen, denn er hatte es nie versucht. Da sprach DavidDavid zu SaulSaul: Ich kann nicht darin gehen, denn ich habe es nie versucht. Und DavidDavid legte sie von sich ab.39 And David girded his sword upon his dress, and endeavoured to go; for he had not yet tried it . And David said to Saul, I cannot go in these; for I have never tried them . And David put them off him.
40 Und er nahm seinen Stab in seine Hand und wählte sich fünf glatte SteineSteine aus dem Bache6 und tat sie in das Hirtengerät, das er hatte, in die TascheTasche, und seine Schleuder hatte er in seiner Hand; und er trat an den PhilisterPhilister heran.40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's bag that he had, into the pocket; and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.
41 Und der PhilisterPhilister ging und kam dem DavidDavid immer näher, und der MannMann, der den SchildSchild7 trug, vor ihm her.41 And the Philistine came on and approached David; and the man that bore the shield was before him.
42 Und als der PhilisterPhilister hinschaute und DavidDavid sah, verachtete er ihn; denn er war ein Jüngling und rötlich, dazu schön von Ansehen.42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was a youth, and ruddy, and besides of a beautiful countenance.
43 Und der PhilisterPhilister sprach zu DavidDavid: Bin ich ein HundHund, daß du mit Stöcken zu mir kommst? Und der PhilisterPhilister fluchte DavidDavid bei seinen GötternGöttern.43 And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 Und der PhilisterPhilister sprach zu DavidDavid: Komm her zu mir, daß ich dein FleischFleisch den Vögeln des HimmelsHimmels und den Tieren des Feldes gebe!44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the fowls of the heavens and to the beasts of the field.
45 Und DavidDavid sprach zu dem PhilisterPhilister: Du kommst zu mir mit SchwertSchwert und mit SpeerSpeer und mit WurfspießWurfspieß; ich aber komme zu dir im NamenNamen JehovasJehovas der HeerscharenHeerscharen, des GottesGottes der SchlachtreihenSchlachtreihen IsraelsIsraels, den8 du verhöhnt hast.45 And David said to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with sword, and with spear, and with javelin; but I come to thee in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 An diesem TageTage wird JehovaJehova dich in meine Hand überliefern, und ich werde dich erschlagen und dein HauptHaupt von dir wegnehmen; und die Leichname des Heeres der PhilisterPhilister werde ich an diesem TageTage den Vögeln des HimmelsHimmels und dem Wilde der ErdeErde geben; und die ganze ErdeErde soll erkennen, daß IsraelIsrael einen GottGott hat.46 This day will Jehovah deliver thee up into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the camp of the Philistines this day to the fowl of the heavens and to the wild beasts of the earth. And all the earth shall know that Israel has a God;
47 Und diese ganze VersammlungVersammlung soll erkennen, daß JehovaJehova nicht durch SchwertSchwert und durch SpeerSpeer rettet; denn JehovasJehovas ist der StreitStreit, und er wird euch in unsere Hand geben!47 and all this congregation shall know that Jehovah saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is Jehovah's, and he will give you into our hands.
48 Und es geschah, als der PhilisterPhilister sich aufmachte und ging und nahte, DavidDavid entgegen, da eilte DavidDavid und lief der Schlachtreihe zu, dem PhilisterPhilister entgegen.48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and advanced to meet David, that David hasted, and ran towards the ranks to meet the Philistine.
49 Und DavidDavid fuhr mit seiner Hand in das Gerät und nahm einen Stein heraus, und er schleuderte und traf den PhilisterPhilister an seine StirnStirn; und der Stein drang in seine StirnStirn, und er fiel auf sein Angesicht zur ErdeErde.49 And David put his hand into the bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, and the stone sank into his forehead; and he fell on his face to the earth.
50 So war DavidDavid, mit der Schleuder und mit dem SteineSteine, stärker als der PhilisterPhilister, und er schlug den PhilisterPhilister und tötete ihn; und DavidDavid hatte kein SchwertSchwert in der Hand.50 So David overcame the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and smote the Philistine and killed him; and there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Und DavidDavid lief und trat zu dem PhilisterPhilister hin, und er nahm sein SchwertSchwert und zog es aus seiner Scheide und tötete ihn, und hieb ihm den KopfKopf damit ab. Als aber die PhilisterPhilister sahen, daß ihr HeldHeld tot war, da flohen sie.51 And David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him completely, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they fled.
52 Und die Männer von IsraelIsrael und JudaJuda machten sich auf und erhoben ein Geschrei und verfolgten die PhilisterPhilister bis zum Eingang des Tales9 und bis zu den Toren von EkronEkron; und die Erschlagenen der PhilisterPhilister fielen auf dem Wege nach SchaaraimSchaaraim und bis GathGath und bis EkronEkron.52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to the ravine and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down on the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
53 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael kehrten um von der Verfolgung der PhilisterPhilister und plünderten ihre LagerLager.53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they pillaged their camps.
54 Und DavidDavid nahm das HauptHaupt des PhilistersPhilisters und brachte es nach JerusalemJerusalem; seine WaffenWaffen aber legte er in sein ZeltZelt.54 And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.
55 Und als SaulSaul DavidDavid ausziehen sah, dem PhilisterPhilister entgegen, sprach er zu AbnerAbner, dem Heerobersten: Wessen SohnSohn ist doch der Jüngling, AbnerAbner? Und AbnerAbner sprach: So wahr deine SeeleSeele lebt, o König, ich weiß es nicht!55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this young man? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
56 Und der König sprach: Frage du, wessen SohnSohn der junge MannMann ist.56 And the king said, Inquire thou whose son this youth is.
57 Und als DavidDavid vom Erschlagen des PhilistersPhilisters zurückkehrte, da nahm ihn AbnerAbner und brachte ihn vor SaulSaul; und das HauptHaupt des PhilistersPhilisters war in seiner Hand.57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Und SaulSaul sprach zu ihm: Wessen SohnSohn bist du, Jüngling? Und DavidDavid sprach: Der SohnDer Sohn deines KnechtesKnechtes IsaiIsai, des BethlehemitersBethlehemiters.58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, young man? And David said, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.
