1 Und SamuelSamuel sprach zu SaulSaul: JehovaJehova hat mich gesandt, um dich zum König zu salben über sein Volk, über IsraelIsrael. So höre nun auf die Stimme der WorteWorte JehovasJehovas.1 And Samuel said to Saul, Jehovah sent me to anoint thee king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken to the voice of the words of Jehovah.
2 So spricht JehovaJehova der HeerscharenHeerscharen: Ich habe angesehen, was AmalekAmalek IsraelIsrael getan, wie er sich ihm in den Weg gestellt hat, als es aus Ägypten heraufzog.2 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I have considered what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Nun ziehe hin und schlage AmalekAmalek, und verbannet alles was er hat, und schone seiner nicht; und töte vom ManneManne bis zum Weibe, vom Kinde bis zum Säugling, vom RindeRinde bis zum Kleinvieh, vom KamelKamel bis zum EselEsel.3 Now go and smite Amalek, and destroy utterly all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
4 Da rief SaulSaul das Volk auf und musterte sie zu TelaimTelaim, zweihunderttausend MannMann zu Fuß und zehntausend Männer von JudaJuda.4 And Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 Und SaulSaul kam bis zu der Stadt der AmalekiterAmalekiter, und er legte einen HinterhaltHinterhalt in das TalTal.5 And Saul came to the city of the Amalekites, and set an ambush in the valley.
6 Und SaulSaul sprach zu den Kenitern1: Gehet, weichet, ziehet hinab aus der Mitte der AmalekiterAmalekiter, daß ich dich nicht mit ihnen wegraffe! Denn du, du hast Güte erwiesen an allen KindernKindern IsraelIsrael, als sie aus Ägypten heraufzogen. Und die KeniterKeniter wichen aus der Mitte der AmalekiterAmalekiter.6 And Saul said to the Kenites, Go, depart, and go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt. And the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 Und SaulSaul schlug die AmalekiterAmalekiter von HawilaHawila an bis nach SurSur hin, das vor Ägypten liegt.7 And Saul smote Amalek from Havilah as thou comest to Shur, which is opposite to Egypt.
8 Und er ergriff AgagAgag, den König der AmalekiterAmalekiter, lebendig; und das ganze Volk verbannte er mit der Schärfe des SchwertesSchwertes.8 And he took Agag the king of Amalek alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 Und SaulSaul und das Volk verschonten AgagAgag und das Beste vom Klein- und Rindvieh und die TiereTiere vom zweiten Wurf und die Mastschafe und alles was gut war, und sie wollten sie nicht verbannen; alles ViehVieh aber, das gering und schwächlich war, das verbannten sie.9 And Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep and oxen, and beasts of the second bearing, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not devote them to destruction; but everything that was mean and weak, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Da geschah das WortWort JehovasJehovas zu SamuelSamuel also:10 And the word of Jehovah came to Samuel, saying,
11 Es reut mich, daß ich SaulSaul zum König gemacht habe; denn er hat sich hinter mir abgewandt und hat meine WorteWorte nicht erfüllt. Und SamuelSamuel entbrannte2 und schrie zu JehovaJehova die ganze NachtNacht.11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned away from following me, and hath not fulfilled my words. And Samuel was much grieved; and he cried to Jehovah all night.
12 Und am MorgenMorgen machte SamuelSamuel sich früh auf, SaulSaul entgegen. Und es wurde SamuelSamuel berichtet und gesagt: SaulSaul ist nach Karmel3 gekommen; und siehe, er hat sich ein DenkmalDenkmal errichtet, und er hat sich gewandt und ist weiter gegangen und nach GilgalGilgal hinabgezogen.12 And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning. And it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set him up a monument, and has turned about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.
13 Und SamuelSamuel kam zu SaulSaul; und SaulSaul sprach zu ihm: Gesegnet seiest du von JehovaJehova! Ich habe das WortWort JehovasJehovas erfüllt.13 And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, Blessed art thou of Jehovah: I have fulfilled the word of Jehovah.
14 Und SamuelSamuel sprach: Was ist denn das für ein Blöken von Kleinvieh in meinen Ohren, und ein Brüllen von RindernRindern, das ich höre?14 And Samuel said, What means then this bleating of sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of oxen which I hear?
15 Und SaulSaul sprach: Sie haben sie von den AmalekiternAmalekitern gebracht, weil das Volk das Beste vom Klein- und Rindvieh verschont hat, um JehovaJehova, deinem GottGott, zu opfern; aber das Übrige haben wir verbannt.15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites, because the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
16 Da sprach SamuelSamuel zu SaulSaul: Halt, daß ich dir kundtue, was JehovaJehova diese NachtNacht zu mir geredet hat. Und er sprach zu ihm: Rede!16 And Samuel said to Saul, Stay, that I may tell thee what Jehovah has said to me this night. And he said to him, Say on.
17 Und SamuelSamuel sprach: Wurdest du nicht, als du klein in deinen AugenAugen warst, das HauptHaupt der StämmeStämme IsraelsIsraels? und JehovaJehova salbte dich zum König über IsraelIsrael.17 And Samuel said, Was it not when thou wast little in thine eyes that thou becamest the head of the tribes of Israel, and Jehovah anointed thee king over Israel?
18 Und JehovaJehova hat dich auf den Weg gesandt und gesagt: Ziehe hin und verbanne die Sünder, die AmalekiterAmalekiter, und streite wider sie, bis du sie vernichtest.18 And Jehovah sent thee on a way and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
19 Warum hast du denn der Stimme JehovasJehovas nicht gehorcht, und bist über die BeuteBeute hergefallen und hast getan was böse ist in den AugenAugen JehovasJehovas?19 Why then didst thou not hearken to the voice of Jehovah, but didst fall upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of Jehovah?
20 Und SaulSaul sprach zu SamuelSamuel: Ich habe der Stimme JehovasJehovas gehorcht und bin auf dem Wege gezogen, den JehovaJehova mich gesandt hat; und ich habe AgagAgag, den König der AmalekiterAmalekiter, hergebracht, und die AmalekiterAmalekiter habe ich verbannt.20 And Saul said to Samuel, I have indeed hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and have gone the way which Jehovah sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 Aber das Volk hat von der BeuteBeute genommen: Klein- und Rindvieh, das Vorzüglichste des Verbannten, um JehovaJehova, deinem GottGott, zu opfern in GilgalGilgal.21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the choicest of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Jehovah thy God in Gilgal.
22 Und SamuelSamuel sprach zu SaulSaul: Hat JehovaJehova Lust an BrandopfernBrandopfern und SchlachtopfernSchlachtopfern, wie daran, daß man der Stimme JehovasJehovas gehorcht? Siehe, Gehorchen ist besser als SchlachtopferSchlachtopfer, Aufmerken besser als das FettFett der Widder.22 And Samuel said, Has Jehovah delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, As in hearkening to the voice of Jehovah? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, Attention than the fat of rams.
23 Denn wie SündeSünde der WahrsagereiWahrsagerei ist Widerspenstigkeit, und der Eigenwille4 wie Abgötterei und Götzendienst5. Weil du das WortWort JehovasJehovas verworfen hast, so hat er dich verworfen, daß du nicht mehr König seiest.23 For rebellion is as the sin of divination, And selfwill is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, He hath also rejected thee from being king.
24 Und SaulSaul sprach zu SamuelSamuel: Ich habe gesündigt, daß ich den Befehl JehovasJehovas und deine WorteWorte übertreten habe; denn ich habe das Volk gefürchtet und auf seine Stimme gehört.24 And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of Jehovah, and thy words; for I feared the people, and hearkened to their voice.
25 Und nun, vergibvergib doch meine SündeSünde, und kehre mit mir um, daß ich vor JehovaJehova anbete.25 And now, I pray thee, forgive my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah.
26 Aber SamuelSamuel sprach zu SaulSaul: Ich kehre nicht mit dir um; denn du hast das WortWort JehovasJehovas verworfen, und JehovaJehova hat dich verworfen, daß du nicht mehr König über IsraelIsrael seiest.26 And Samuel said to Saul, I will not turn again with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah has rejected thee from being king over Israel.
27 Und als SamuelSamuel sich wandte zu gehen, da ergriff er den Zipfel seines OberkleidesOberkleides, und derselbe riß ab.27 And as Samuel turned to go away, Saul laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.
28 Da sprach SamuelSamuel zu ihm: JehovaJehova hat heute das Königtum IsraelsIsraels von dir abgerissen und es deinem Nächsten gegeben, der besser ist als du.28 Then Samuel said to him, Jehovah has rent the kingdom of Israel from thee to-day, and has given it to thy neighbour, who is better than thou.
29 Und auch lügt nicht das Vertrauen6 IsraelsIsraels, und er bereut nicht; denn nicht ein MenschMensch ist er, um zu bereuen.29 And also the Hope of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.
30 Und er sprach: Ich habe gesündigt! Nun ehre mich doch vor den Ältesten meines Volkes und vor IsraelIsrael, und kehre mit mir um, daß ich vor JehovaJehova, deinem GottGott, anbete.30 And he said, I have sinned; honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah thy God.
31 Und SamuelSamuel kehrte um, SaulSaul nach, und SaulSaul betetebetete an vor JehovaJehova.31 So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped Jehovah.
32 Und SamuelSamuel sprach: Bringet AgagAgag, den König der AmalekiterAmalekiter, zu mir her. Und AgagAgag kam lustig zu ihm; und AgagAgag sprach: Fürwahr, die BitterkeitBitterkeit des TodesTodes ist gewichen!32 And Samuel said, Bring ye near to me Agag the king of Amalek. And Agag came to him gaily. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
33 Aber SamuelSamuel sprach: Wie dein SchwertSchwert Weiber kinderlos gemacht hat, so sei kinderlos unter Weibern7 deine MutterMutter! Und SamuelSamuel hieb AgagAgag in Stücke vor JehovaJehova zu GilgalGilgal.33 And Samuel said, As thy sword has made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless above women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.
34 Und SamuelSamuel ging nach RamaRama; und SaulSaul zog in sein HausHaus hinauf nach Gibea-SaulSaul.34 And Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 Und SamuelSamuel sah SaulSaul nicht mehr bis zum TageTage seines TodesTodes; denn SamuelSamuel trauerte um SaulSaul, da es JehovaJehova reute, daß er SaulSaul zum König über IsraelIsrael gemacht hatte.35 And Samuel saw Saul no more until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned over Saul; and Jehovah repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
