1 SaulSaul war ... JahreJahre alt, als er König wurde; und er regierte zwei JahreJahre über IsraelIsrael.1 Saul was...years old when he became king; and he reigned two years over Israel.
2 Und SaulSaul wählte sich dreitausend aus IsraelIsrael; zweitausend waren bei SaulSaul zu MikmasMikmas und auf dem GebirgeGebirge von BethelBethel, und tausend waren bei JonathanJonathan zu Gibea-Benjamin. Das übrige Volk aber entließ er, einen jeden nach seinen Zelten.2 And Saul chose him three thousand men out of Israel: there were with Saul two thousand in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin; and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.
3 Und JonathanJonathan schlug die Aufstellung1 der PhilisterPhilister, die zu GebaGeba war, und die PhilisterPhilister hörten es. Und SaulSaul ließ im ganzen Lande in die Posaune stoßen und sprach: Die HebräerHebräer sollen es hören!3 And Jonathan smote the outpost of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it . And Saul blew the trumpet throughout the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.
4 Und als ganz IsraelIsrael sagen hörte: SaulSaul hat die AufstellungAufstellung der PhilisterPhilister geschlagen, und auch hat sich IsraelIsrael bei den PhilisternPhilistern stinkend gemacht, da versammelte sich das Volk hinter SaulSaul her nach GilgalGilgal.4 And all Israel heard say, Saul has smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and Israel also has become odious to the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.
5 Und die PhilisterPhilister sammelten sich zum StreitStreit mit IsraelIsrael: dreißigtausend WagenWagen und sechstausend Reiter, und Fußvolk, wie der Sand, der am Ufer des MeeresMeeres ist, an Menge; und sie zogen herauf und lagerten sich zu MikmasMikmas, östlich von Beth-AwenBeth-Awen.5 And the Philistines were assembled together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude; and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward from Beth-Aven.
6 Und die Männer von IsraelIsrael sahen, daß sie in DrangsalDrangsal waren, denn das Volk war bedrängt; und das Volk versteckte sich in den HöhlenHöhlen und in den Dorngebüschen und in den Felsen und in den Burgen und in den Gruben.6 And the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed); and the people hid themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in cliffs, and in strongholds, and in pits.
7 Und HebräerHebräer gingen über den JordanJordan in das Land GadGad und GileadGilead. SaulSaul aber war noch zu GilgalGilgal, und das ganze Volk zitterte hinter ihm her2.7 And the Hebrews went over the Jordan into the land of Gad and Gilead. And Saul was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
8 Und er wartete sieben TageTage, bis zu der von SamuelSamuel bestimmten ZeitZeit; aber SamuelSamuel kam nicht nach GilgalGilgal. Und das Volk zerstreute sich von ihm weg.8 And he waited seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed ; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
9 Da sprach SaulSaul: Bringet mir das BrandopferBrandopfer und die FriedensopferFriedensopfer her! Und er opferte das BrandopferBrandopfer.9 And Saul said, Bring hither to me the burnt-offering and the peace-offerings. And he offered up the burnt-offering.
10 Und es geschah, als er das OpfernOpfern des BrandopfersBrandopfers vollendet hatte, siehe, da kam SamuelSamuel; und SaulSaul ging hinaus, ihm entgegen, ihn zu begrüßen.10 And it came to pass, as soon as he had ended offering up the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.
11 Und SamuelSamuel sprach: Was hast du getan! Und SaulSaul sprach: Weil ich sah, daß das Volk sich von mir weg zerstreute, und du nicht kamst zur bestimmten ZeitZeit, und die PhilisterPhilister zu MikmasMikmas versammelt waren,11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou didst not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines were assembled at Michmash,
12 so sprach ich: Jetzt werden die PhilisterPhilister zu mir nach GilgalGilgal herabkommen, und ich habe JehovaJehova nicht angefleht! und ich überwand mich und opferte das BrandopferBrandopfer.12 I said, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to Jehovah; and I forced myself, and offered up the burnt-offering.
13 Und SamuelSamuel sprach zu SaulSaul: Du hast töricht gehandelt, du hast nicht beobachtet das Gebot JehovasJehovas, deines GottesGottes, das er dir geboten hat; denn jetzt hätte JehovaJehova dein Königtum über IsraelIsrael bestätigt auf ewig;13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God which he commanded thee; for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom over Israel for ever.
14 nun aber wird dein Königtum nicht bestehen. JehovaJehova hat sich einen MannMann gesucht nach seinem Herzen, und JehovaJehova hat ihn zum Fürsten über sein Volk bestellt; denn du hast nicht beobachtet, was JehovaJehova dir geboten hatte.14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah has sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah has appointed him ruler over his people; for thou hast not kept what Jehovah commanded thee.
15 Und SamuelSamuel machte sich auf und ging von GilgalGilgal hinauf nach Gibea-Benjamin. Und SaulSaul musterte das Volk, das sich bei ihm befand, bei sechshundert MannMann.15 And Samuel arose and went up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were found with him, about six hundred men.
16 Und SaulSaul und JonathanJonathan, sein SohnSohn, und das Volk, das sich bei ihm befand, lagen zu Geba-Benjamin; die PhilisterPhilister aber hatten sich zu MikmasMikmas gelagert.16 And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were found with them, abode in Geba of Benjamin; and the Philistines encamped in Michmash.
17 Und der Verheerungszug ging aus von dem LagerLager der PhilisterPhilister in drei Haufen: ein Haufe wandte sich des Weges nach OphraOphra, nach dem Lande SchualSchual hin,17 And the ravagers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned the way of Ophrah, into the land of Shual;
18 und ein Haufe wandte sich auf den Weg nach Beth-HoronBeth-Horon, und ein Haufe wandte sich des Weges nach der Grenze, die emporragt3 über das Tal ZeboimTal Zeboim nach der WüsteWüste hin.18 and another company turned the way to Beth-horon; and the other company turned the way to the district that looks over the ravine of Zeboim toward the wilderness.
19 Und es war kein SchmiedSchmied zu finden im ganzen Lande IsraelIsrael; denn die PhilisterPhilister hatten gesagt: daß die HebräerHebräer sich nicht SchwertSchwert oder Speer4 machen!19 Now there was no smith found throughout the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears.
20 Und ganz IsraelIsrael ging zu den PhilisternPhilistern hinab, ein jeder, um seine Pflugschar und seinen Spaten und sein Beil und seine Sichel zu schärfen,20 And all Israel went down to the Philistines, every man to get his ploughshare, and his hoe, and his axe, and his sickle sharpened,
21 wenn die Schneiden an den Sicheln und an den Spaten und an den Gabeln und an den Beilen abgestumpft waren, und um den Rinder-Stachel zu richten.21 when the edges of the sickles, and the hoes, and the forks, and the axes were blunted; and to set the goads.
22 Und es geschah am TageTage des StreitesStreites, da wurde kein SchwertSchwert noch SpeerSpeer gefunden in der Hand des ganzen Volkes, das mit SaulSaul und mit JonathanJonathan war; doch bei SaulSaul und seinem SohneSohne JonathanJonathan fanden sie sich vor.22 And it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan; but with Saul and with Jonathan his son there was found.
23 Und eine5 AufstellungAufstellung der PhilisterPhilister zog aus nach dem Passe von MikmasMikmas.23 And a garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
