1 Und AbrahamAbraham brach auf von dannen nach dem Lande des SüdensSüdens und wohnte zwischen KadesKades und SurSur; und er hielt sich auf zu GerarGerar.1 And Abraham departed thence towards the south country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned at Gerar.
2 Und AbrahamAbraham sagte von SaraSara, seinem Weibe: Sie ist meine Schwester. Da sandte Abimelech1, der König von GerarGerar, und ließ SaraSara holen2.2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. And Abimelech the king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.
3 Und GottGott kam zu AbimelechAbimelech in einem TraumeTraume der NachtNacht und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du bist des TodesTodes wegen des Weibes, das du genommen hast; denn sie ist eines MannesMannes Eheweib.3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, because of the woman that thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4 AbimelechAbimelech aber hatte sich ihr nicht genaht; und er sprach: HerrHerr, willst du auch eine gerechte Nation töten?4 But Abimelech had not come near her. And he said, Lord, wilt thou also kill a righteous nation?
5 Hat er nicht zu mir gesagt: Sie ist meine Schwester? Und auch sie selbst hat gesagt: Er ist mein BruderBruder. In Lauterkeit meines Herzens und in Unschuld meiner Hände habe ich dies getan.5 Did he not say to me, She is my sister? and she, even she said, He is my brother. In the integrity of my heart and in the innocency of my hands have I done this.
6 Und GottGott sprach zu ihm im TraumeTraume: Auch ich weiß, daß du in Lauterkeit deines Herzens dies getan hast, und so habe ich dich auch davon abgehalten, gegen mich zu sündigen; darum habe ich dir nicht gestattet, sie zu berühren.6 And God said to him in a dream, I also knew that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart, and I, too, have withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore have I not suffered thee to touch her.
7 Und nun gib das Weib des MannesMannes zurück; denn er ist ein ProphetProphet und wird für dich bitten, und du wirst am LebenLeben bleiben. Wenn du sie aber nicht zurückgibst, so wisse, daß du gewißlich sterben wirst, du und alles was dein ist!7 And now, restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and will pray for thee, that thou mayest live. And if thou do not restore her , know that thou shalt certainly die, thou and all that is thine.
8 Und AbimelechAbimelech stand des MorgensMorgens früh auf und rief alle seine KnechteKnechte und redete alle diese WorteWorte vor ihren Ohren; und die Männer fürchteten sich sehr.8 And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and spoke all these words in their ears; and the men were greatly afraid.
9 Und AbimelechAbimelech rief AbrahamAbraham und sprach zu ihm: Was hast du uns angetan! Und was habe ich wider dich gesündigt, daß du über mich und über mein ReichReich eine große SündeSünde gebracht hast? Dinge, die nicht getan werden sollten, hast du mir angetan.9 And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What hast thou done to us? And in what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me, and on my kingdom, a great sin? Thou hast done to me deeds that ought not to be done.
10 Und AbimelechAbimelech sprach zu AbrahamAbraham: Was hast du beabsichtigt, daß du dies getan hast?10 And Abimelech said to Abraham, What hast thou seen that thou hast done this?
11 Und AbrahamAbraham sprach: Weil ich mir sagte: Gewiß ist keine3 GottesfurchtGottesfurcht an diesem Orte, und sie werden mich töten um meines Weibes willen.11 And Abraham said, Because I said, Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will kill me for my wife's sake.
12 Auch ist sie wahrhaftig meine Schwester, die TochterTochter meines VatersVaters, nur nicht die TochterTochter meiner MutterMutter; und sie ist mein Weib geworden.12 But she is also truly my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 Und es geschah, als GottGott mich wandern ließ aus meines VatersVaters HauseHause, da sprach ich zu ihr: Dies sei deine Güte, die du mir erweisen mögest; an jedem Orte, wohin wir kommen werden, sage von mir: Er ist mein BruderBruder.13 And it came to pass when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, Let this be thy kindness which thou shalt shew to me: at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14 Da nahm AbimelechAbimelech Kleinvieh und RinderRinder, und KnechteKnechte und Mägde, und gab sie dem AbrahamAbraham; und er gab ihm SaraSara, sein Weib, zurück.14 And Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and bondmen and bondwomen, and gave them to Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 Und AbimelechAbimelech sprach: Siehe, mein Land ist vor dir; wohne, wo es gut ist in deinen AugenAugen.15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it is good in thine eyes.
16 Und zu SaraSara sprach er: Siehe, ich habe deinem BruderBruder tausend Silbersekel gegeben; siehe, das sei dir eine Augendecke vor allen, die bei dir sind, und in Bezug auf alles ist die Sache rechtlich geschlichtet4.16 And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, let that be to thee a covering of the eyes, in respect of all that are with thee, and with all; and she was reproved.
17 Und AbrahamAbraham betetebetete zu GottGott; und GottGott heilte AbimelechAbimelech und sein Weib und seine Mägde, so daß sie gebaren.17 And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and his wife and his handmaids, and they bore children .
18 Denn JehovaJehova hatte um SarasSaras, des Weibes AbrahamsAbrahams, willen jeden Mutterleib im HauseHause AbimelechsAbimelechs gänzlich verschlossen.18 For Jehovah had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
