1 Und AhabAhab berichtete der IsebelIsebel alles was EliaElia getan hatte, und alles, wie er alle ProphetenPropheten mit dem SchwerteSchwerte getötet hätte.1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and in detail how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Da sandte IsebelIsebel einen Boten zu EliaElia und ließ ihm sagen: So sollen mir die GötterGötter tun und so hinzufügen, wenn ich nicht morgen um diese ZeitZeit dein LebenLeben dem LebenLeben eines von ihnen gleich mache!2 And Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah saying, So do the gods to me , and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time!
3 Und als er das sah, machte er sich auf und ging fort um seines LebensLebens willen, und kam nach BeersebaBeerseba, das zu JudaJuda gehört; und er ließ seinen Knaben dort zurück.3 And when he saw that , he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 Er selbst aber ging in die WüsteWüste, eine Tagereise weit, und kam und setzte sich unter einen Ginsterstrauch. Und er bat, daß seine SeeleSeele stürbe, und sprach: Es ist genug; nimm nun, JehovaJehova, meine SeeleSeele, denn ich bin nicht besser als meine VäterVäter.4 And he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a certain broom-bush, and requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough: now, Jehovah, take my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 Und er legte sich nieder und schlief ein unter dem Ginsterstrauch. Und siehe da, ein EngelEngel rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Stehe auf, iß!5 And he lay down and slept under the broom-bush. And behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, Arise, eat!
6 Und als er hinblickte, siehe, da lag zu seinen Häupten ein KuchenKuchen, auf heißen Steinen gebacken, und ein KrugKrug Wasser. Und er aß und trank und legte sich wieder hin.6 And he looked, and behold, at his head was a cake, baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water. And he ate and drank, and lay down again.
7 Und der EngelEngel JehovasJehovas kam zum zweiten Male wieder und rührte ihn an und sprach: Stehe auf, iß! denn der Weg ist zu weit für dich.7 And the angel of Jehovah came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise, eat; for the journey is too great for thee.
8 Und er stand auf und aß und trank, und er ging in der KraftKraft dieser Speise vierzig TageTage und vierzig Nächte bis an den BergBerg GottesGottes, den HorebHoreb.8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.
9 Und er ging daselbst in die Höhle und übernachtete daselbst.Und siehe, das WortWort JehovasJehovas geschah zu ihm, und er sprach zu ihm: Was tust du hier, EliaElia?9 And there he went into a cave, and lodged there. And behold, the word of Jehovah came to him, and he said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 Und er sprach: Ich habe sehr geeifert für JehovaJehova, den GottGott der HeerscharenHeerscharen; denn die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael haben deinen BundBund verlassen, deine Altäre niedergerissen und deine ProphetenPropheten mit dem SchwerteSchwerte getötet; und ich allein bin übriggeblieben, und sie trachten danach, mir das LebenLeben zu nehmen.10 And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I am left, I alone, and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 Und er sprach: Gehe hinaus und stelle dich auf den BergBerg vor JehovaJehova! Und siehe, JehovaJehova ging vorüber, und ein WindWind, groß und stark, zerriß die BergeBerge und zerschmetterte die Felsen vor JehovaJehova her; JehovaJehova war nicht in dem WindeWinde. Und nach dem WindeWinde ein ErdbebenErdbeben; JehovaJehova war nicht in dem ErdbebenErdbeben.11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before Jehovah. And behold, Jehovah passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before Jehovah: Jehovah was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake: Jehovah was not in the earthquake.
12 Und nach dem ErdbebenErdbeben ein FeuerFeuer; JehovaJehova war nicht in dem FeuerFeuer. Und nach dem FeuerFeuer der Ton eines leisen Säuselns.12 And after the earthquake, a fire: Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire, a soft gentle voice.
13 Und es geschah, als EliaElia es hörte, da verhüllte er sein Angesicht mit seinem MantelMantel, und ging hinaus und stellte sich an den Eingang der Höhle. Und siehe, eine Stimme geschah zu ihm also: Was tust du hier, EliaElia?13 And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

15 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu ihm: Gehe, kehre zurück deines Weges, nach der WüsteWüste von DamaskusDamaskus; und wenn du angekommen bist, so salbe HasaelHasael zum König über SyrienSyrien.15 And Jehovah said to him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when thou comest, anoint Hazael king over Syria;
16 Und JehuJehu, den SohnSohn NimsisNimsis, sollst du zum König über IsraelIsrael salben; und ElisaElisa, den SohnSohn SaphatsSaphats, von Abel-MeholaAbel-Mehola, sollst du zum ProphetenPropheten salben an deiner Statt.16 and Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint prophet in thy stead.
17 Und es soll geschehen: wer dem SchwerteSchwerte HasaelsHasaels entrinnt, den wird JehuJehu töten; und wer dem SchwerteSchwerte JehusJehus entrinnt, den wird ElisaElisa töten.17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay; and him that escapeth the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18 Aber ich habe siebentausend in IsraelIsrael übriggelassen1, alle die Kniee, die sich nicht vor dem BaalBaal gebeugt haben, und jeden Mund, der ihn nicht geküßt hat.18 Yet I have left myself seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth that hath not kissed him.
19 Und er ging von dannen und fand ElisaElisa, den SohnSohn SaphatsSaphats, welcher gerade pflügte mit zwölf JochJoch RindernRindern vor sich her, und er war bei dem zwölften; und EliaElia ging zu ihm hin und warf seinen MantelMantel auf ihn.19 And he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was ploughing with twelve yokes before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah went over to him, and cast his mantle on him.
20 Und er verließ die RinderRinder und lief EliaElia nach und sprach: Laß mich doch meinen VaterVater und meine MutterMutter küssen, so will ich dir nachfolgen. Und er sprach zu ihm: Gehe, kehre zurück! denn was habe ich dir getan?20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and I will follow thee. And he said to him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee?
21 Und er kehrte von ihm zurück und nahm das JochJoch RinderRinder und schlachtete es, und mit dem Geschirr der RinderRinder kochte er das FleischFleisch derselben und gab es den Leuten, und sie aßen; und er machte sich auf und folgte EliaElia nach und diente ihm.21 And he returned back from him, and took the yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the implements of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. And he arose and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.
