1 Und es vergingen viele TageTage, da geschah das WortWort JehovasJehovas zu EliaElia im dritten JahreJahre also: Gehe hin, zeige dich AhabAhab; und ich will RegenRegen geben auf den Erdboden.1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of Jehovah came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the face of the earth.
2 Und EliaElia ging hin, um sich AhabAhab zu zeigen.Die HungersnotHungersnot aber war stark in SamariaSamaria.2 And Elijah went to shew himself to Ahab. And the famine was severe in Samaria.
3 Und AhabAhab rief ObadjaObadja, der über das HausHaus war. (ObadjaObadja aber fürchtete JehovaJehova sehr;3 And Ahab called Obadiah, who was the steward of his house (now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly;
4 und es geschah, als IsebelIsebel die ProphetenPropheten JehovasJehovas ausrottete, da nahm ObadjaObadja hundert ProphetenPropheten und versteckte sie, je fünfzig MannMann in eine Höhle, und versorgte sie mit BrotBrot und Wasser.)4 and it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and maintained them with bread and water);
5 Und AhabAhab sprach zu ObadjaObadja: Gehe durch das Land zu allen Wasserquellen und zu allen Bächen; vielleicht finden wir GrasGras, daß wir Rosse und MaultiereMaultiere am LebenLeben erhalten und nichts von dem ViehVieh ausrotten müssen.5 and Ahab said to Obadiah, Go through the land, to all the fountains of water and to all the torrents, perhaps we may find grass to save the horses and the mules alive, so that we may not have to destroy some of our beasts.
6 Und sie teilten das Land unter sich, um es zu durchziehen; AhabAhab ging auf einem Wege allein, und ObadjaObadja ging auf einem Wege allein.6 And they divided the land between them to pass through it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
7 Und als ObadjaObadja auf dem Wege war, siehe, da kam EliaElia ihm entgegen. Und er erkannte ihn und fiel auf sein Angesicht und sprach: Bist du es, mein HerrHerr EliaElia?7 And as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him; and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Is it indeed thou, my lord Elijah?
8 Und er sprach zu ihm: Ich bin's; gehe hin, sage deinem HerrnHerrn: Siehe, EliaElia ist da!8 And he said to him, I am he : go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah!
9 Und er sprach: Was habe ich gesündigt, daß du deinen KnechtKnecht in die Hand AhabsAhabs geben willst, daß er mich töte?9 And he said, What have I sinned, that thou givest thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to put me to death?
10 So wahr JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, lebt, wenn es eine Nation oder ein Königreich gibt, wohin mein HerrHerr nicht gesandt hat, um dich zu suchen! Und sprachen sie: Er ist nicht da, so ließ er das Königreich und die Nation schwören, daß man dich nicht gefunden hätte.10 As Jehovah thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom whither my lord has not sent to seek thee; and when they said, He is not here , he took an oath of the kingdom or nation that they found thee not.
11 Und nun sprichst du: Gehe hin, sage deinem HerrnHerrn: Siehe, EliaElia ist da!11 And now thou sayest, Go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah!
12 Und es wird geschehen, wenn ich von dir weggehe, so wird der GeistGeist JehovasJehovas dich tragen, ich weiß nicht wohin; und komme ich, es AhabAhab zu berichten, und er findet dich nicht, so wird er mich töten. Und dein KnechtKnecht fürchtet doch JehovaJehova von meiner Jugend an.12 And it shall come to pass when I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah shall carry thee whither I know not; and when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will kill me; and I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth.
13 Ist meinem HerrnHerrn nicht berichtet worden was ich getan habe, als IsebelIsebel die ProphetenPropheten JehovasJehovas tötete? daß ich von den ProphetenPropheten JehovasJehovas hundert MannMann versteckte, je fünfzig MannMann in eine Höhle, und sie mit BrotBrot und Wasser versorgte?13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid a hundred men of Jehovah's prophets by fifty in a cave, and maintained them with bread and water?
14 Und nun sprichst du: Gehe hin, sage deinem HerrnHerrn: Siehe, EliaElia ist da! und er wird mich töten.14 And now thou sayest, Go, say to thy lord, Behold Elijah! and he will kill me.
15 Aber EliaElia sprach: So wahr JehovaJehova der HeerscharenHeerscharen lebt, vor dessen Angesicht ich stehe, heute werde ich mich ihm zeigen!15 And Elijah said, As Jehovah of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will certainly shew myself to him to-day.
16 Da ging ObadjaObadja hin, AhabAhab entgegen, und berichtete es ihm.Und AhabAhab ging hin, EliaElia entgegen.16 Then Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. And Ahab went to meet Elijah.
17 Und es geschah, als AhabAhab EliaElia sah, da sprach AhabAhab zu ihm: Bist du da, der IsraelIsrael in TrübsalTrübsal bringt?17 And it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, Is it thou, the troubler of Israel?
18 Und er sprach: Ich habe IsraelIsrael nicht in TrübsalTrübsal gebracht, sondern du und das HausHaus deines VatersVaters, indem ihr die GeboteGebote JehovasJehovas verlassen habt, und du den BaalimBaalim nachgewandelt bist.18 And he said, I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Jehovah, and thou hast followed the Baals.
19 Und nun sende hin, versammle ganz IsraelIsrael zu mir nach dem BergeBerge KarmelKarmel, und die vierhundert und fünfzig ProphetenPropheten des BaalBaal und die vierhundert ProphetenPropheten der AscheraAschera, die am Tische IsebelsIsebels essen.19 And now send, gather to me all Israel to mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, who eat at Jezebel's table.
20 Da sandte AhabAhab unter allen KindernKindern IsraelIsrael umher und versammelte die ProphetenPropheten nach dem BergeBerge KarmelKarmel.20 So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
21 Da trat EliaElia zu dem ganzen Volke hin und sprach: Wie lange hinket ihr auf beiden Seiten? Wenn JehovaJehova GottGott1 ist, so wandelt ihm nach; wenn aber der BaalBaal, so wandelt ihm nach! Und das Volk antwortete ihm kein WortWort.21 Then Elijah drew near to all the people, and said, How long do ye halt between two opinions? if Jehovah be God, follow him; and if Baal, follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
22 Und EliaElia sprach zu dem Volke: Ich allein bin übriggeblieben, ein ProphetProphet JehovasJehovas, und der ProphetenPropheten des BaalBaal sind vierhundert und fünfzig MannMann.22 And Elijah said to the people, I, only I, remain a prophet of Jehovah; and Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
23 So gebe man uns zwei Farren; und sie mögen sich den einen von den Farren auswählen und ihn zerstücken und aufs HolzHolz legen, aber sie sollen kein FeuerFeuer daran legen; und ich, ich werde den anderen Farren zurichten und aufs HolzHolz legen, aber ich werde kein FeuerFeuer daran legen.23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks: and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and put it on the wood, and put no fire; and I will sacrifice the other bullock, and put it on the wood, and put no fire.
24 Und rufet ihr den NamenNamen eures GottesGottes an, und ich, ich werde den NamenNamen JehovasJehovas anrufen; und der GottGott, der mit FeuerFeuer antworten wird, der sei GottGott2! Da antwortete das ganze Volk und sprach: Das WortWort ist gut. -24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of Jehovah; and the god that answers by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, The word is good.
25 Und EliaElia sprach zu den ProphetenPropheten des BaalBaal: Wählet euch einen von den Farren aus und richtet ihn zuerst zu, denn ihr seid die Vielen, und rufet den NamenNamen eures GottesGottes an; aber ihr sollt kein FeuerFeuer daran legen.25 And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose one bullock for yourselves, and sacrifice it first; for ye are the many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire.
26 Und sie nahmen den Farren, den man ihnen gegeben hatte, und richteten ihn zu; und sie riefen den NamenNamen des BaalBaal an vom MorgenMorgen bis zum Mittag und sprachen: BaalBaal, antworte uns! Aber da war keine Stimme, und niemand antwortete. Und sie hüpften um den AltarAltar, den man gemacht hatte.26 And they took the bullock which had been given them, and sacrificed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us! But there was no voice, and none answered. And they leaped about the altar that had been made.
27 Und es geschah am Mittag, da verspottete sie EliaElia und sprach: Rufet mit lauter Stimme, denn er ist ja ein GottGott! denn er ist in Gedanken, oder er ist beiseite gegangen, oder er ist auf der Reise; vielleicht schläft er und wird aufwachen.27 And it came to pass at noon that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud; for he is a god; for he is meditating, or gone aside, or he is on a journey; perhaps he sleeps, and will awake.
28 Und sie riefen mit lauter Stimme und ritzten sich nach ihrer WeiseWeise mit SchwerternSchwertern und mit Lanzen, bis sie BlutBlut an sich vergossen.28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with swords and spears, till the blood gushed out upon them.
29 Und es geschah, als der Mittag vorüber war, da weissagten3 sie bis zur ZeitZeit da man das SpeisopferSpeisopfer opfert; aber da war keine Stimme und keine Antwort4 und kein Aufmerken.29 And it came to pass when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering up of the oblation; but there was neither voice, nor any that answered, nor any attention.
30 Da sprach EliaElia zu dem ganzen Volke: Tretet her zu mir! Und das ganze Volk trat zu ihm hin. Und er stellte den niedergerissenen AltarAltar JehovasJehovas wieder her.30 Then Elijah said to all the people, Draw near to me. And all the people drew near to him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovah which was broken down.
31 Und EliaElia nahm zwölf SteineSteine, nach der Zahl der StämmeStämme der Söhne JakobsJakobs, zu welchem das WortWort JehovasJehovas geschehen war, indem er sprach: IsraelIsrael soll dein Name sein!31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of Jehovah came saying, Israel shall be thy name;
32 und er baute von den Steinen einen AltarAltar im NamenNamen JehovasJehovas; und er machte rings um den AltarAltar einen Graben im Umfange von zwei MaßMaß Saat5;32 and with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah, and made a trench round about the altar, of the capacity of two measures of seed;
33 und er richtete das HolzHolz zu und zerstückte den Farren und legte ihn auf das HolzHolz.33 and he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, Fill four pitchers with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood.
34 Und er sprach: Füllet vier Eimer mit Wasser, und gießet es auf das BrandopferBrandopfer und auf das HolzHolz. Und er sprach: Tut es zum zweiten Male! und sie taten es zum zweiten Male. Und er sprach: Tut es zum dritten Male! und sie taten es zum dritten Male.34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 Und das Wasser lief rings um den AltarAltar; und auch den Graben füllte er mit Wasser.35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
36 Und es geschah zur ZeitZeit da man das SpeisopferSpeisopfer opfert, da trat EliaElia, der ProphetProphet, herzu und sprach: JehovaJehova, GottGott AbrahamsAbrahams, IsaaksIsaaks und IsraelsIsraels! Heute werde kund, daß du GottGott in IsraelIsrael bist, und ich dein KnechtKnecht, und daß ich nach deinem WorteWorte alles dieses getan habe.36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering up of the oblation, that Elijah the prophet drew near, and said, Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things by thy word.
37 Antworte mir, JehovaJehova, antworte mir, damit dieses Volk wisse, daß du, JehovaJehova, GottGott6 bist, und daß du ihr HerzHerz zurückgewendet hast!37 Answer me, Jehovah, answer me, that this people may know that thou Jehovah art God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Da fiel FeuerFeuer JehovasJehovas herab und verzehrte das BrandopferBrandopfer und das HolzHolz und die SteineSteine und die ErdeErde; und das Wasser, das im Graben war, leckte es auf.38 And the fire of Jehovah fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 Und als das ganze Volk es sah, da fielen sie auf ihr Angesicht und sprachen: JehovaJehova, er ist GottGott7! JehovaJehova, er ist GottGott8! -39 And all the people saw it , and they fell on their faces and said, Jehovah, he is God! Jehovah, he is God!
40 Und EliaElia sprach zu ihnen: Greifet die ProphetenPropheten des BaalBaal, keiner von ihnen entrinne! Und sie griffen sie; und EliaElia führte sie hinab an den BachBach KisonKison und schlachtete sie daselbst.40 And Elijah said to them, Seize the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape! And they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the torrent of Kishon, and slaughtered them there.
41 Und EliaElia sprach zu AhabAhab: Gehe hinauf, iß und trink, denn es ist ein Rauschen eines gewaltigen RegensRegens.41 And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
42 Und AhabAhab ging hinauf, um zu essen und zu trinken. EliaElia aber stieg auf den Gipfel des KarmelKarmel; und er beugte sich zur ErdeErde und tat sein Angesicht zwischen seine Kniee.42 And Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed down on the earth, and put his face between his knees.
43 Und er sprach zu seinem Knaben: Gehe doch hinauf, schaue nach dem MeereMeere hin. Und er ging hinauf und schaute, und er sprach: Es ist nichts da. Und er sprach: Gehe wieder hin, siebenmal.43 And he said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 Und es geschah beim siebenten Male, da sprach er: Siehe, eine WolkeWolke, klein wie eines MannesMannes Hand, steigt aus dem MeereMeere herauf. Da sprach er: Gehe hinauf, sprich zu AhabAhab: SpanneSpanne an und fahre hinab, daß der RegenRegen dich nicht aufhalte!44 And it came to pass at the seventh time that he said, Behold there is a cloud, small as a man's hand, arising out of the sea. And he said, Go up, say to Ahab, Harness and go down, that the pour of rain stop thee not.
45 Und es geschah unterdessen, da ward der HimmelHimmel schwarz von Wolken und WindWind, und es kam ein starker RegenRegen; und AhabAhab bestieg den WagenWagen und ging nach JisreelJisreel.45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heavens became black with clouds and wind, and there was a great pour of rain. And Ahab got on the chariot, and went to Jizreel.
46 Und die Hand JehovasJehovas kam über EliaElia; und er gürtete seine LendenLenden und lief vor AhabAhab her bis nach JisreelJisreel hin.46 And the hand of Jehovah was upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jizreel.
