1 Und Satan1 stand auf wider IsraelIsrael und reizte DavidDavid an, IsraelIsrael zu zählen.1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
2 Da sprach DavidDavid zu JoabJoab und zu den Obersten des Volkes: Gehet hin, zählet IsraelIsrael von BeersebaBeerseba bis DanDan; und berichtet mir, damit ich ihre Zahl wisse.2 And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
3 Und JoabJoab sprach: Es möge JehovaJehova zu seinem Volke, so viele ihrer sind, hundertmal hinzufügen! Sind sie nicht alle, mein HerrHerr König, die KnechteKnechte meines HerrnHerrn? Warum begehrt mein HerrHerr solches? Warum soll es IsraelIsrael zur SchuldSchuld werden?3 And Joab said, Jehovah add to his people, how many soever they be, a hundredfold: are they not all, my lord O king, my lord's servants? why does my lord require this thing? why should he become a trespass to Israel?
4 Aber das WortWort des Königs blieb fest gegen JoabJoab. Und JoabJoab zog aus und durchwanderte ganz IsraelIsrael, und er kam nach JerusalemJerusalem zurück.4 But the king's word prevailed against Joab; and Joab departed, and went through all Israel, and came again to Jerusalem.
5 Und JoabJoab gab die Zahl des gemusterten Volkes DavidDavid an; und es waren in ganz IsraelIsrael elfhunderttausend MannMann, die das SchwertSchwert zogen, und in JudaJuda vierhundertundsiebenzig tausend MannMann, die das SchwertSchwert zogen.5 And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to David. And all they of Israel were eleven hundred thousand men that drew sword; and of Judah, four hundred and seventy thousand men that drew sword.
6 LeviLevi aber und BenjaminBenjamin musterte er nicht unter ihnen; denn das WortWort des Königs war JoabJoab ein Greuel.6 But Levi and Benjamin he did not count among them; for the king's word was abominable to Joab.
7 Und diese Sache war übel in den AugenAugen GottesGottes, und er schlug IsraelIsrael.7 And God was displeased on account of this thing, and he smote Israel.
8 Und DavidDavid sprach zu GottGott: Ich habe sehr gesündigt, daß ich diese Sache getan habe; und nun laß doch die Ungerechtigkeit deines KnechtesKnechtes vorübergehen, denn ich habe sehr töricht gehandelt!8 And David said to God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing; and now, I beseech thee, put away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9 Und JehovaJehova redete zu GadGad, dem SeherSeher DavidsDavids, und sprach:9 And Jehovah spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying,
10 Gehe hin und rede zu DavidDavid und sprich: So spricht JehovaJehova: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor; wähle dir eines davon, daß ich es dir tue.10 Go and speak to David saying, Thus saith Jehovah: I offer thee three things ; choose one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
11 Und GadGad kam zu DavidDavid und sprach zu ihm: So spricht JehovaJehova: Wähle2 dir!11 And Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah:
12 entweder drei JahreJahre HungersnotHungersnot; oder drei MonateMonate dahingerafft zu werden vor deinen Bedrängern, und daß das SchwertSchwert deiner Feinde dich treffe; oder drei TageTage das SchwertSchwert JehovasJehovas und PestPest im Lande, und daß der EngelEngel JehovasJehovas verderbe in allen Grenzen IsraelsIsraels. Und nun siehe zu, was für eine Antwort ich dem zurückbringen soll, der mich gesandt hat.12 Choose thee, either three years of famine, or three months to be destroyed before thine adversaries while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee, or three days the sword of Jehovah and the pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying through all the borders of Israel. And now consider what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.
13 Und DavidDavid sprach zu GadGad: Mir ist sehr angst! Möge ich doch in die Hand JehovasJehovas fallen, denn seine Erbarmungen sind sehr groß; aber in die Hand der Menschen laß mich nicht fallen!13 And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for his mercies are very great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.
14 Und JehovaJehova sandte eine PestPest unter IsraelIsrael; und es fielen von IsraelIsrael siebenzigtausend MannMann.14 And Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Und JehovaJehova sandte den EngelEngel nach JerusalemJerusalem, um es zu verderben. Und als er verderbte, sah es JehovaJehova, und es reute ihn des Übels; und er sprach zu dem EngelEngel, welcher verderbte: Genug! ziehe jetzt deine Hand ab. Der EngelEngel JehovasJehovas stand aber bei der Tenne OrnansOrnans, des JebusitersJebusiters.15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was destroying, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough; withdraw now thine hand. And the angel of Jehovah stood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Und als DavidDavid seine AugenAugen erhob, sah er den EngelEngel JehovasJehovas zwischen der ErdeErde und dem HimmelHimmel stehen, sein SchwertSchwert gezückt in seiner Hand, ausgestreckt über JerusalemJerusalem. Da fielen DavidDavid und die Ältesten, in SacktuchSacktuch gehüllt, auf ihr Angesicht.16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah stand between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. And David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
17 Und DavidDavid sprach zu GottGott: Bin ich es nicht, der gesagt hat, das Volk zu zählen? und ich bin es, der gesündigt und sehr übel gehandelt hat; aber diese Schafe3, was haben sie getan? JehovaJehova, mein GottGott, es sei doch deine Hand wider mich und wider das HausHaus meines VatersVaters, aber nicht wider dein Volk zur Plage!17 And David said to God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? It is I that have sinned and done evil; but these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, Jehovah my God, be on me and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be smitten.
18 Und der EngelEngel JehovasJehovas sprach zu GadGad, daß er zu DavidDavid sage, DavidDavid solle hinaufgehen, um JehovaJehova einen AltarAltar zu errichten auf der Tenne OrnansOrnans, des JebusitersJebusiters.18 And the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up and rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 Und DavidDavid ging hinauf, nach dem WorteWorte GadsGads, das er im NamenNamen JehovasJehovas geredet hatte.19 And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he had spoken in the name of Jehovah.
20 Und OrnanOrnan wandte sich um und sah den EngelEngel; und seine vier Söhne versteckten sich mit ihm. OrnanOrnan aber droschdrosch WeizenWeizen.20 And Ornan turned back and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Und DavidDavid kam zu OrnanOrnan; und OrnanOrnan blickte hin und sah DavidDavid, und er ging aus der Tenne hinaus und beugte sich vor DavidDavid nieder, mit dem Antlitz zur ErdeErde.21 And David came to Ornan, and Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Und DavidDavid sprach zu OrnanOrnan: Gib mir den Platz der Tenne, daß ich JehovaJehova einen AltarAltar darauf baue, - um volles GeldGeld gib ihn mir - daß die Plage von dem Volke abgewehrt werde.22 And David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of the threshing-floor, that I may build an altar in it to Jehovah: grant it to me for the full money, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23 Da sprach OrnanOrnan zu DavidDavid: Nimm ihn dir, und mein HerrHerr, der König, tue was gut ist in seinen AugenAugen; siehe, ich gebe die RinderRinder zu den BrandopfernBrandopfern, und die Dreschwagen zum HolzHolz, und den WeizenWeizen zum SpeisopferSpeisopfer: alles das gebe ich.23 And Ornan said to David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his sight: see, I give the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing-sledges for wood, and the wheat for the oblation; I give it all.
24 Aber der König DavidDavid sprach zu OrnanOrnan: Nein, sondern kaufen will ich es um volles GeldGeld; denn ich will nicht was dir gehört für JehovaJehova nehmen und umsonst BrandopferBrandopfer opfern.24 And king David said to Ornan, No; but I will in any case buy them for the full money; for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, to offer up a burnt-offering without cost.
25 Und DavidDavid gab OrnanOrnan für den Platz sechshundert SekelSekel GoldGold an Gewicht.25 And David gave to Ornan for the place in shekels of gold the weight of six hundred shekels .
26 Und DavidDavid baute daselbst JehovaJehova einen AltarAltar, und opferte BrandopferBrandopfer und FriedensopferFriedensopfer; und er rief zu JehovaJehova, und er antwortete ihm mit FeuerFeuer vom HimmelHimmel auf dem AltarAltar des BrandopfersBrandopfers.26 And David built there an altar to Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from the heavens by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.
27 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu dem EngelEngel, und er steckte sein SchwertSchwert wieder in seine Scheide.27 And Jehovah spoke to the angel; and he put up his sword again into its sheath.
28 Zu jener ZeitZeit, als DavidDavid sah, daß JehovaJehova ihm auf der Tenne OrnansOrnans, des JebusitersJebusiters, geantwortet hatte, opferte er daselbst.28 At that time when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 Die Wohnung JehovasJehovas aber, die MoseMose in der WüsteWüste gemacht hatte, und der Brandopferaltar waren zu jener ZeitZeit auf der HöheHöhe zu GibeonGibeon.29 And the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30 Aber DavidDavid vermochte nicht vor denselben hinzugehen, um GottGott zu suchen; denn er war erschrocken vor dem SchwerteSchwerte des EngelsEngels JehovasJehovas.30 But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah.
